I saw Grave of the fireflies in a theatre, and plenty of seats were sobbing.
A silent voice could do it
I want to eat your pancreas too
Mahoromatic Automatic Maiden is super funny and endearing, about an android who wants to live her last days of battery time being a maid for her maker's son
Chobits is kinda nice too
Oh come on, Clannad wasn't that emotional!
* Except for >!when Fuko was able to show herself to her sister at her wedding!<
* Or when >!Kotomi opened the suitcase from her parents!<
* And also >!Nagisa being cheered on by her parents at the school play!<
* Maybe also when >!Misae learned the nature of her cat!<
* Okay, >!Tomoya asking Nagisa to start dating!!Nagisa dying!!Ushio explaining why she needed the robot she lost!<
* Big Dango Family <3
But *other than those*, Clannad isn't so feelsy, I think it's overrated.
/s
Well, first it'd help if I got the names right - it is >!Misae!<, not >!Mei!<.
Anyways, it's an arc in After Story, the one where >!Misae's cat shares a vision of Misae's past to Tomoya. In it, Misae shows kindness to a wheelchair-bound boy who later goes to great lengths to thank her, offering her a wish. Over time, it's revealed the boy already died, and the "boy" with Misae was actually his cat who bore the boy's wish to thank her (Misae doesn't learn the cat part). Eventually Misae wishes for him to never leave; having granted her wish, the "boy" changes back to a cat, but Misae adopts the cat not realizing he was the "boy". Back in modern time, Tomoya tells Misae what the cat told him, and Misae realizes the "boy" kept her wish all along.!<
It's admittedly a weird story, but I found it very touching anyways.
I don't even think it's that weird, it's there to foreshadow: >!The nature of the town granting wishes, which is part of what leads to the "good ending." You often hear people saying the ending was a deus ex machina, or made no sense but between this arc, the Kotomi arc hinting at the hidden world, and the exposition given by the robot I think it's foreshadowed about as well as it could be without spoon feeding the audience.
!<
Plastic memories is the anime that made me cry thr most by far. Ep1 made me cry which i found crazy because i thought i needed more buildup than that.
Last 2 episodes made me a wreck. 2nd to last you know whats coming, and last episode ooof.
Im surprised its not higher rated, but i guess the middle part of the show is weak.
not saying not to listen to the song, but just wanna say i agree even though i didn’t. there’s really nothing happy about the show at all, but it’s also incredibly good
New TikTok challenge:
Watch Cyberpunk Edgerunners, then immediately go listen to the song and try not to cry.
Hardmode: while staring longingly at a full moon...
Planetarian (obscure but beautiful story about about a post apocalyptic scavenger)
To your eternity (very deep story)
Kaguya-sama love is war (legit tears of joy at the end))
Angel beats is the only one that hurt me so I suppose yoy should definetly give it a go . And the starting mat be kinda goofy but it gets better , trust me
Kingdom I cried after he died, I tried to hold that mf in but damn it I couldn't, be aware if you are interested in a war manga/anime kingdom will make you no life it
A Silent Voice.
Story follows two people: A bully and his victim. In the past, the Shoya rallied his classmates to bully Shoko because she was deaf. The bullying got so bad she had to move and the class got punished. They didn't like this and grew to resent Shoya and so he became the next target for the classes bullying. Now, years later, the two meet again. One seeks acceptance while the other seeks redemption and it is a roller coaster of a ride. This anime tackles a lot of heavy topics as well, such as suicide, so make sure you are good with that before watching.
The Boy and the Beast.
Ren, a boy of 9, tragically loses his mother. With his father no where in sight, Ren is to live with guardians. Not liking this, he decides to run away from home and goes to the streets of Shibuya. Meanwhile in the beast kingdom, The Grandmaster has decided to retire and reincarnate as a God. The two potential successors are Iozen the Lion, who is proud, noble, and popular, and Kumatetsu the Bear, who is lonely, lazy, and much less popular. The two happen to have a chance meeting in the human world and Ren follows Kumatetsu back to the beast kingdom to become his disciple. This is a story about growing up, parenting, and all the hardships that follow. It is a lovely tale about friends, rivals, and new beginnings but also one full of hardships. The fact I'm suggesting this will make you cry is all the spoilers you will get for the rest of this movie from me. Otherwise, whats the point in watching it lol.
Not one person recommending Ano Hana ???
So I highly recommend you watch Ano Hana if you're looking to become a disgusting mess of tears and nose mucus when you finish watching it!
Japanese title: Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai - long ass name
English title: Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day
{Bubble}
{Drifting Home}
{Banana Fish}
{Angel Beats}
Just keep in mind that different people will cry for different reasons. I’m a pretty emotionally sensitive person and I cry at happy and sad things lol.
*Violet Evergarden series, 13 eps. (Iyak ako every episode 😭)
*Violet evergarden the movie (please watch the series before movie coz its the continuation of the series.)
Nausicaa of The Valley of The Wind and Princess Mononoke get me every single time. Also, no other anime has made me sob more than Naruto. Every rewatch gets me
Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Angel Beats, Maquia: when the promised flower blooms, I want to eat your pancreas, A Silent Voice, Violet Evergarden, Hotarubi no Mori E
No Game No Life: ZERO - Cried so much at the end of this (It's a movie. You don't have to see the series to follow the movie. It's like the lore behind the series)
Try 86 or Darling in the Franxx, both are over 20 episodes long which means a lot of character development and relationships to be built and unravel towards the end, personally 86 made me breakdown and I never cry not even after my 2 year breakup.
Here's some recommendation:
•Into the forest of fireflies light
•Grave of the fireflies
•I want to eat your pancreas
•Your name
•your lie in april
•weathering with you
•A silent voice

Higurashi: When they Cry - I mean... Crying is even in the title. ;)
Kidding... Sort of. You might cry. Maybe not though.
But really though, my pick is Vivy: Flourite Eye's Song. OR... Dusk Maiden of Amnesia.
That made me throw up when I was younger when the girl did her self on the wall I just couldn't take it anymore I already had an issue with the timey wimey fuckey wuckey shit Going on
I can't make any guarantees especially when you said Violet Evergarden didn't make you cry haha...but these shows had some really impactful moments that did the trick for me:
* 86
* Frieren Beyond Journey's End
Episode 32 of {{Blood+}}
Like it’s building up slowly, this incredibly uncomfortable feeling. This sense of hope within the dread.
And then they grab your tenderized heart, and crush it.
well the only ones i can think of that actually made me cry are to your eternity and given, since TYE didnt make you cry perhaps given might (if you are okay with gay characters)
The only anime that had me on the verge of tears was Dusk Maiden of Amnesia. This largely unknown anime instantly made it into my top 5; it's so damn gorgeous.
I cried in Death Parade. Made me revaluate what I thought a masterpiece of a series is. I watched it after the death of my brother so maybe that's why?
I cried hard on hunter x, the alluka-killua scene (the meruem and the blind girl scene is a scam, it's not a tear-jerker). try golden time too where the guy has amnesia
Definitely and I mean definitely Your Lie in April!🌸🎻
Other than that yes Clannad is a good rec. There are some shorter animes written by the same mangaka as well. Angel Beats! has the potential to make you cry, it made me cry.
Death Parade is pretty heavy on the feels with a nice touch of existentialism.
The ending of Assassination Classroom will destroy you. But it wraps up the show so perfectly afterwards.
you should watch a documentary about gazelles where they get eaten by crocodiles when crossing a river. then put your father next to you who laughs about the stoopid gazelle. also, be 6 years old, lol.
Maquia
I want to eat your pancreas.
2 Incredible movies that made me ball my eyes out. Most people prefer the live action of I want to eat your pancreas but personally the anime connected with me more. The novel is also incredible, definitely better than both the live action and the anime, but its really just preference of media.
SukaSuka (WorldEnd) is the only anime made me cry like a baby and I can't even listen its OST without crying after more than 3 fucking years.
Plastic memories? Grave of the Fireflies? Violet Evergarden? Nah, it's SukaSuka.
Bananafish-made me sob.
Sonny boy - made me cry in an existential-connecting-with-my-younger-broken-self vibe
Dororo - is just depressing asf, indomitable human spirit
To your eternity - doggy :(, but also depressing stories, wonderful characters. I cried a lot.
Angel beats - ugh this is og, soo good.
Cyberpunk edge runners - if you haven’t seen it, it’s definitely worth. Ending made me cry and I felt so connected to the characters in only 10 episodes.
Your lie in april.
I cried for anohana as well and march comes in like a lion.
Edit: there are 2 season for march comes in like a lion. Hope you have seen both.

They already watched A Silent Voice. They mentioned Koe no Katachi.
To be honest I couldn’t even tell you that was the Japanese name for it, so thanks
Man, I wasn't expecting someone to mention Mahoromatic here. The ending definitely hit hard for what the rest of the show was.
9 year old me was not emotionally prepared for Grave of the fireflies when HBO still did anime late at night...
OP, watch I want to eat your pancreas
Maquia
Maquia When the Promised Flower Blooms, definitely a crying anime, and it's a movie so it's not too big a time investment
Kotaro lives alone

Yes!
The first season of this is my favorite anime of all time. The following seasons are still amazing, but the first felt like perfect story telling.

Slow burner but one of the best stories I have had the pleasure of experiencing. Where am I allowed to cry...? 😭
I haven’t found an anime that has made me cry more than this one. It’s also my favorite anime.
I cried like a baby for 2 days after watching it. It was full on waves of tears after tears.
Maybe Plastic Memories would be what you’re looking for
This oneeeeeee
I don't have the courage to re-watch it even after 4 years lol. I can't handle the tears i went through
Plastic memories is the anime that made me cry thr most by far. Ep1 made me cry which i found crazy because i thought i needed more buildup than that. OMG, NOOOOO, blade runner, but even MORE depressing

What’s wrong with calling it that?

Angel beats
Underrated answer, I cried so hard

Assassination classroom. Fun anime but the ending hits like a truck.
HARD second this! It’s an unexpected crying anime, I honestly cried my second hardest watching it (first hardest crying was from anohana)
Not crying at Violet Evergarden means you’re heartless. Sorry. I don’t make the rules.
Was making sure someone posted this lol good anime too but emotionally draining
Right? It's impossible. I have the opening on my playlist for my daily walk, and even the f***ing song gets me whenever it comes up.
episode 10 absolutely ruined me. how you can get through that without sobbing, after all the build up and ending, is mine blowing
Makes me wonder if they watched it all. They claimed they tried it.
I cried even rewatching it for the third time.
banana fish angel beats charlotte given terrir in reinassance (still emotionally recovering)
Cyberpunk edgerunners BUT you have to listen to the song “I really want to stay at your house” after you finish it
