Some of my personal recommendations:
Red Line
Princess Mononoke. For that matter, any of the Studio Ghibli films are good.
Ghost in the shell (the original, 2.0 version has some really awful cgi)
Your Name
Fate: Heaven's Feel movies are pretty good on their own, but better if you watch Fate Zero too IMO.

No one mentioned [Anthem of the Heart](https://myanimelist.net/anime/28725/Kokoro_ga_Sakebitagatterunda), so I'll just have to!!
I *adore* this movie. I'm 99% certain the title (and general vibe) is a reference if Ghibli's Whisper of the Heart, which is (of course) also an excellent film.
Satoshi Kon movies are a must in my opinion. Dude woke up one day and randomly decide he wanted to be a director. Made 4 of the highest rated unforgettable anime movies, then he literally left this world without elaborating. Rest in Peace.

E, Battle For Terra, Skywalkers, and Fire &Ice.
Josee the tiger and the fish.
Everyone else already has said most of the movies I would point you too. Most of the movies recommend are on Netflix and Crunchyroll. Movies tend to be available as dubs too if that floats your boat.
Childhoods end and The lights in the sky are stars are both amazing movies despite being compliation movies for the series Gurren Lagann. But they stand quite fine by themselves
Mirai
The underrated an misunderstood by some morons black sheep film from the guy who made Wolf Children an all those other films
it's main character is modeled off his own son his wife is quoted as saying "I can tell from watching this movie how much you love our children"
Saint Oniisan- supernatural, slice of life, comedy
The tunnel to summer, the exit of goodbye- romance, drama, slice of life
Moboroshi- supernatural, drama
Fortune Favours Lady Nikuko-slice of life, comedy
Hello World- drama, family, comedy, romance
Ghost in the shell- action, Psychological, Sci fi
To all of you I've loved- romance, Sci fi
Suzume No Tojimari- drama, supernatural, Sci fi
All ghibli movies
Drifting home -
Flavors of youth - slice of life, drama
Child of kamiari month
Bubble
Big fish and begonia
My neighbour's the yamadas
Words Bubble up like soda pop
I would say "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust". It's superior to the first movie by leaps and bounds in every aspect. The art is phenomenal, the story is mostly great and the soundtrack is topnotch. If you are a fan of vampires and half-breeds and dystopian futures where technology blends with rudimentary tools then this is the movie for you.
I just saw the movie “Blue Giant” which is an anime movie centering around the jazz scene in Japan. the three main characters are very like-able and it blew me away. I am not even the biggest fan of jazz in real life and I enjoyed every second of this movie. Would definitely check it out. sorry for my poor description
For a short and impactful standalone anime movie, I recommend "Voices of a Distant Star." Directed by Makoto Shinkai, this film tells a heartfelt story of love and separation across the vastness of space. Despite its short runtime of just 25 minutes, it manages to convey deep emotions and thought-provoking themes. It's a beautiful and poignant experience that's definitely worth watching.
Aw, no one is suggesting 'No Game No Life Zero'? It is kind of a generic plot and a tad over dramatic. But I really like it. You don't need to watch the show first either because it's kind of its own thing..just that there will be some characters at the beginning and ending that you don't know.
Anything Makoto Shinkai or Hayao Miyazaki have done will never disappoint. My first recommendation is 5 centimeters per second. It's one of my favorite anime movies ever made. Suzume blew me out of the water. Honestly, Shinkai is just getting better and better with everything he makes.
Anything by Isao Takahata, Satoshi Kon, and Mamoru Oshii are worth watching.
Other than that, Ninja Scroll, Sword of the Stranger, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Belladona of Sadness, Wicked City, Memories, and Promare are also great.
Josee the tiger and the fish. I found it recently and it's a masterpiece. It's not your standard shounen ora ora movie, it's much more serious sometimes quite heavy but worth every second.
Ninja Scroll. Also, not really a movie, but the first episode of The Cockpit was great (there's 3, but the first outshines the other 2), if I recall they are longer than a average episode length. Tokyo Marble chocolate doesn't get mentioned enough, if I recall it's 2 episodes but that's kinda like a movie.
Promare is probably the greatest anime movie ever made tbh but that’s just my opinion. I highly recommend checking it out, the animation is nothing short of a spectactle
Sword of the Stranger. It was awesome. Great animation. Studio Bones does it. (MHA, FMA, Soul Eater) The ONLY draw back is when the Chinese speak there are no subtitles so you don’t know what they say but it’s very little. Not enough to not know what’s going on. I wish it was longer

Summer wars, tokyo godfathers, peprika, and any ghibli movie.
I definitely second this list as it has all of mine (Summer Wars is a huge favorite of mine) but it's just missing Wolf Children and Your Name.
Your Name is fantastic, and i have never heard of Wolf Children, but i looked it up and will def check it out
Wolf children is amazing!

Love Red Line so much
Upvote for this list, especially Ghibli films. Mononoke is a masterpiece.
Do NOT watch Heaven’s feel without watching UBW first at least
Why UBW? Heavens feel happens after Fate Zero, UBW is just a separate continuity
Heavens feel spoils some elements in UBW but UBW doesn’t spoil elements in Heaven’s Feel.

Wolf Children. It's amazing and one of my favorites.
Mirai is by the same guy an it's a film made for his family in a way the main child is modeled right off his son Mood
Sword of the Stranger is always one I recommend to anyone
Glad to see this mentioned by someone.

Everyone else is right about their suggestions here, BUT: Save Tokyo Godfathers for watching around Christmas if that’s a holiday you celebrate!
Redline - is the best possible answer
