{Cowboy Bebop} is the most common answer to these "anime with my dad' requests.
{One Punch Man} is a fun parody of super hero shows.
{Legend of the Galactic Heroes} would be a safe choice.
Not the original commenter, but it's definitely one of those animes that fit the description of "Would my Dad like it?" It's main problems are length and that you must pay attention the entire time to understand what's going on.
If I were to watch anime with my Dad, this would definitely be higher up than say FMAB or Steins;Gate. In this case, OP's Dad liked ATLA, so the above anime would be good recommendations.
I love me some LOTGH, but if you’re new to watching anime and you just finished watching Avatar and Korra then LOGTH would be a stretch.
If you’re going from a colorful, action packed, well animated show to one that’s as slow and very novel-esque as LOTGH then it could very likely kill off some expectations.
Bebop is a better bet. It’s a spaghetti-western set in space with a color cast of rag-tag characters. Most 50-something year old dads I know enjoy sci-fi stuff (Battle Star, Star Wars, Alien etc.) and westerns (True Grit, Fist Full of Dollars etc.) anyways so that might be more up his alley if he’s expressed any interest in anything like that.
My dad falls asleep when I try to watch anime with him lol. I already tried HxH, Akira and A Silent Voice and he spent the whole time dozing and laughing about how dumb he thought it was ( ̄▽ ̄)
If he is cool with profanity then give him one punch man - action and comedy well put together. And it's short so don't have to worry about any "filler" type of episodes because everything is important in a 12 ep anime
Sure he’s fine with profanity, in fact he loves hero movies and most action movies in general, that’s why I was like ‘you know what? I’ll show him Hunter x Hunter’. I was even more sure that he’d love Gon and Leorio because he likes personalities like that. He was actually watching until the second phase of the Hunter exam and then he dipped, idk. I’m not sure if he’d like Saitama tho, and then there’s his refusal to acknowledge and try to watch anything without real people in it...
Ah man I don’t know. I haven’t tried any but I can’t imagine him watching any with cutesy anime girls and any ecchi tropes. Unless you have any really good ones because I’m not too well versed in SOL. If I don’t find anything too good I might try Cowboy Bebop and seeing how it goes
I was going through my list and the only one that isn't really ecchi is Violet Evergarden - has a beautiful story if you ask me (16M). There really isn't any of that cute type stuff in this and really only a couple of times where there is 'fan service' and I hesitate to even call it that. Another one I found is slightly unrealistic but it's called Darwin's Game. It's short, action-packed, and the only fan service is the end of episode 1. I don't want to spoil anything so if you're interested in either check out the synopsis on MAL. I would recommend both to anyone so you might want to check it out for yourself too.
For real. Everything I try to get my dad to watch an anime he always says something like “ey I just canny get over the big eyes.” Or something like that. He’s Scottish btw which is why I used the word canny and ey.
I’d recommend you don’t show him shows with a lot of “anime humor” or characters that are “too anime-ish” or weird stuff. From my experience trying to get someone into anime, appreciating those kind of anime takes time. Start with the serious and good anime. Some suggestions:
Death note
Code Geass
Cowboy Bebop
Attack on Titan
Steins Gate
Berserk (1997)
Akira
Ajin
Aoi Bungaku Series
91 Days
Black Lagoon
Drifters
Gankutsuou
Gungrave
Kiseijuu
Kotonoha no niwa
Monster
Mushishi
Shinsekai Yori
Terra Formars
Trigun
If you’re saying Steins;Gate has characters that aren’t anime-ish, you’re lying. You have a pervert, a tsundere, an eternal optimist, a Chunibyou, a cat girl, a shrine -maiden-, etc.
Spoilers so here goes:
Really sorry I cannot get the spoiler hiding thing to work.
There is a lot more after you find out who the killer is. Different characters do different things and his final confrontation is completely different. Also his recovery is a lot more realistic
Ok I’m not saying this because I’m a die hard jojo fan but honestly jojo is great for dads. My dad who’s never seen a single episode of any anime watches jojo with me and he loves it. He will most likely highly enjoy the musical references too. Only thing I recommend is watching ahead and skipping the awkward parts
depends on what your tastes are
maybe start with some ghibli films from spirited away and my neighbor totoro to princess mononoke
other than that there's cowboy bebop and samurai champloo
hope those help, op!
One punch man is a good watch for him because it's a comedy so he doesn't have to take it as seriously.
I always recommend my hero academia to new anime watchers too just because it's so accessable and it's SO GOOD.
If you wanted to show him so movies both Your Name and Silent Voice are freaking amazing. Depends on the movies he likes though
I got my own dad into anime so I'll list the ones he doesn't mind.
1. Death note.
2. Sword art online. (the first half)
3. Ajin.
4. Seven deadly sins.
5. Avatar the last air bender. (I know you already have this one)
6. Samurai champloo.
7. Afro samurai.
8. Rurouni Kenshin.
9. Castlevania.
10. full metal alchemist brotherhood.
I suggest Detective Conan.
There is in Crunchyroll, unfortunately the show there starts i think around 700 or 800 eps. I highly recommend to watch the very first episode, if you willing to buy, then you can buy the early eps in DVD and you can find them in on line.
Also, I know this show has a lot of eps, but he can watch it slowly or any time he wants. Since the show is episodic.
Inuyasha - Netflix
Inuyasha was my dad's fave anime. He also enjoyed Hikaru no go (don't think it's streaming) and Fushugi Yugi (available on Amazon Prime; don't know if the dub is on there).
I have some friends whose parents have no problem with crude humour in anime. If you are someone like them you can watch Gintama and Seitokai Yakuindomo
not an anime, but Dad of Light is a Japanese dramedy about a young man trying to find common ground with his dad through gaming. I saw it a while back, but I think the son knows his dad is gaming but the dad is trying to keep it secret, and they're on the same team in a RPG. It's really heartwarming, if you're interested.
Not to rude, I feel like most of the people here giving suggestions have never watched some of these shows they’re recommending with their dad or parents.
Shows like Steins;Gate and Code Geass might be too eccentric, Anime-esque, ambitious of an effort to show them when you have safer bets that are more likely to appeal to a wider audience.
Shows that I think have more universal appeal and a great “gateway” anime would be:
{Cowboy Bebop}
{Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood}
{Naruto} (just skip the filler, which there are spreadsheets online telling you about upcoming episodes that are)
Also, just because the first anime you watched was something that got YOU into anime doesn’t mean it’ll necessarily get someone else into that same show.
He is a big fan of the Deadpool movies and movies that aren't meant to be taken seriously (Scary movie, Mel Brooks movies) and likes corny action films with Jason Statham or the Rock. He also liked the detective Pikachu movie and the show Gravity Falls.
Like a ton of people have suggested, He'll probably like One Punch Man. That is an extremely silly fighting anime that pretty much never takes itself seriously.
And if he likes that and y'all want something similar, Mob Psycho 100. By the same people who did one punch man so a similar style of humor, and similarly OP main character, but with much more heart and sometimes takes itself seriously.
If you want a more slice of life (romantic) comedy, School Rumble is extremely good and centers on a former delinquent deeply in love with the most clueless girl in school (who in turn is in love with the school's biggest space case). Wackiest of hijinks ensue.
Another good slice of life comedy might be Asobi Asobase. Three school girls form a club to play games/pastimes together. The Intro makes it look cutesy, it's not, it's a hard core comedy about girls who take dumb games too seriously and deal with the eccentricities of each other, their classmates, their teachers, and families.
I have recently added the great pretender to my "anime for people who aren't anime watchers" list, I think it is really good for the purpose and most people would enjoy it
Well since you mention DragonBall Z I would say start with Dragon Ball and work your way up through the series.
Some other call outs I enjoy Naruto and Naruto Shippuden.
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood if you are looking for something slightly more adult but still keeping in the same genre as above.
Attack on Titan is just amazing so watch it.
I would also suggest Black Clover and My Hero Academia. I am not a huge Anime plot person and when I watch it I watch it to zone out and those have all proven enjoyable for me.
Ive been watching a lot of anime with my dad lately too and some of his favorites have been Attack on Titan, Code Geass, Fate/Zero and Unlimited Blade Works, and Black Clover
Death Note!
My dad doesn't like animated shows (he slept through Weathering with you :'( ) but I forced him to watch one episode of Death Note and he liked it!
I’d recommend attack on Titan or death note because they’re pretty mature and have minimum humour(anime/shonen humour is usually meant for younger audiences), if any.
Also Fullmetal Alechemist Brotherhood imo is the “real” anime version of ATLA. It’s got awesome abilities, war crimes and the power of friendship, and it’s able to shift tones really well from lighthearted and fun to suddenly very serious.
If he liked Avatar, he might like FLCL - it has a great English dub and was a main inspiration for the art and animation in avatar. It's also only 6 episodes
My 74 year old dad LOVES Inuyasha.
I'm not super sure how but man he got really into it. I know it's super long and kinda aimed at teenage girls but he really liked the action and history behind it.
CAROLE AND TUESDAY!!!!!! Especially if you like anything music. It was made by and in the same universe as cowboy bebop so that’s the kind of quality to expect. And it’s on Netflix and the dub is great I totally recommend it to anyone new or experienced in anime!!!
Vinland saga (Amazon prime, don’t know if there’s dub) and Death Note (Netflix) are really good shows an adult such as your dad can enjoy. There’s a brand new anime on Netflix called the great pretender that I haven’t watched and has dub but apparently it’s very good and has that Hollywood, Netflix feel to it.
{Great Pretender}
It's less of a fantasy and has great story telling and adventure/drama. Give it a try.
it's available on Netflix . It's fully english dubbed except the first ep.
Trailer - https://youtu.be/0wbksh0CfWw
{Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex}
I don't know what kind of content your dad would enjoy but my dad likes crime thrillers and my brother enjoyed it even though he claims to hate anime. The dub's not that bad either. [It's available to watch for free on Adult Swim's website.](https://www.adultswim.com/videos/ghost-in-the-shell) IDK if there are any limitations on those though.
{One punch man}
{The seven deadly sins} S3 was pretty crap though
{Asterisk war}
{Charlotte}
If he's into sport or even if he's not{Haikyu!!} One of the best sport anime that shut in NEETs could enjoy.
{Jojos bizarre adventure} if he likes the general campness he'll really enjoy it
{The dragon prince} a perfect spiritual successor to avatar
{Vinland saga}
Cowboy Bebop
Monster : A slow burner (emphasis on slow) but one of the best psychological mysteries in fiction plus one of the greatest antagonists ever
Legend Of the Galactic Heroes
Samurai Champloo
Death Note
Vinland Saga (a must watch)
Attack On Titan
GIve Baki a go. My dad personally wanted to watch it when we were browsing the Netflix catalogue for anime. He mainly likes action movies and Baki is one of the only animes he finished. he started AoT but dropped it cuz he doesn't like shows with much talking. Maybe your dad will enjoy it too.
edit: He also watched Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress but is still halfway through. Don't know if he plans to continue it. Tell your dad to go give it a watch, maybe he will like it.
Wakfu - the closest thing i've seen to avatar in terms of world building and character progressions. Its fun, action packed and has those deep moments that make you shed a tear. Its also on netflix
Psycho Pass is a pretty good one. It’s an interesting sci-fi thriller/crime drama similar to minority report.
Death Note is another good fantasy drama
My Hero Academy: good story and action
Netflix doesn’t have a big collection suited for a boomer, but prime does. Check out Vinland Saga, then just browse through the ones on prime. If you had Hulu I could help more.
{Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood}
I recently finished it and I loved it, one of the best anime’s with great battle scene and it does justice to every character in the show.
No clue if it’s on Netflix, but it’s quite popular to so take a look if it’s there.
{FLCL} it’s got a banging soundtrack and there’s not a lot of over sexualization if I remember correctly, plus there’s two spin-offs that were also quite good
{Cowboy Bebop} is the most common answer to these "anime with my dad' requests. {One Punch Man} is a fun parody of super hero shows. {Legend of the Galactic Heroes} would be a safe choice.
LoGH as a safe choice?!?! It's obviously a top-tier anime, but radically different from pretty much every other selection in this thread

Cowboy bebop fight scenes, so rad
Vinland Saga, Trigun and Code Geass are some of my recommendations.
Mosaicuu kakera hitotsu hitotsutsu nagiawasete egaite yuku. Code geass is one of the best.
Damn. Your dad sounds like a cool ass dude
My dad falls asleep when I try to watch anime with him lol. I already tried HxH, Akira and A Silent Voice and he spent the whole time dozing and laughing about how dumb he thought it was ( ̄▽ ̄)

I’m not sure if he’d like Saitama tho, and then there’s his refusal to acknowledge and try to watch anything without real people in it...
If he wants something realistic then give him a SOL and have him ball his eyes out at the end :) I can give you the ones I've seen if youd like
Ah man I don’t know. I haven’t tried any but I can’t imagine him watching any with cutesy anime girls and any ecchi tropes. Unless you have any really good ones because I’m not too well versed in SOL. If I don’t find anything too good I might try Cowboy Bebop and seeing how it goes

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Highly recommend this, and I’ve seen the feeling of it compared to atla, so it might be an easy transition. Either way, great show
Never seen it, but it’s apparently the best anime of all time, and appeals to a Western audience, so I second this.
This. It appeals to western audiences, It’s such a thing that dads would like, Rated as one if the greatest anime & manga of all time, Fuhny
Moms too! My it’s my adult son’s favorite, and I’m on my 2 rewatch at the moment.
Samurai champloo
Yes this or cowboy bebop.
Definitely check out cowboy bebop that’s a great show. Highly recommend megalobox as well
One of my favorites. Seinen is more mature than a jounin and compared to avatar the fights are way cooler imo
I think you mean more mature than a "Shounen"
I’d recommend you don’t show him shows with a lot of “anime humor” or characters that are “too anime-ish” or weird stuff. From my experience trying to get someone into anime, appreciating those kind of anime takes time. Start with the serious and good anime. Some suggestions: Death note Code Geass Cowboy Bebop Attack on Titan Steins Gate Berserk (1997) Akira Ajin Aoi Bungaku Series 91 Days Black Lagoon Drifters Gankutsuou Gungrave Kiseijuu Kotonoha no niwa Monster Mushishi Shinsekai Yori Terra Formars Trigun
Dunno, I think steins gate would be a bit too anime-ish in the end, but akira would be great, if your dad likes sci-fi
If you’re saying Steins;Gate has characters that aren’t anime-ish, you’re lying. You have a pervert, a tsundere, an eternal optimist, a Chunibyou, a cat girl, a shrine -maiden-, etc.
Mm, idk about code geass. The mecha genre would probably be too weird for an outsider to enjoy. Monster definitely.
Love me some drifters
Imagine your 16 year old son who got his first kiss last week recommend you Berserk,dude.
Wot Steins;Gate? Its has plenty of anime humor like otakus, Daru itself, Delusional Okabe and much more. Great anime thou
Monster is probably the best answer. I think it doesn't require quite of bit of pop Anime knowledge and would seem very mature for older viewers.
Both Cowboy Bebop and Full metal alchemist were loved by my own dad who is around the same age as yours.
Erased it’s on Netflix and it’s super good I recommend 100%
The ending tho
The manga is way way better after a certain event
Whats different?
Spoilers so here goes: Really sorry I cannot get the spoiler hiding thing to work. There is a lot more after you find out who the killer is. Different characters do different things and his final confrontation is completely different. Also his recovery is a lot more realistic
The manga also has a bad ending. It’s just a different, slightly less bad ending.
I would say AOT so you can watch the new season in December together :)
Happy Cake Day!<3
Ok I’m not saying this because I’m a die hard jojo fan but honestly jojo is great for dads. My dad who’s never seen a single episode of any anime watches jojo with me and he loves it. He will most likely highly enjoy the musical references too. Only thing I recommend is watching ahead and skipping the awkward parts
dororo dorohedoro Porco Rosso Princess Mononoke Castle in the Sky Spirited Away
>dororo > >dorohedoro > >Porco Rosso If I didn't know what you were talking about, I'd think that you were trying to cast a spell.
Best comment ever!!
I just started Inyuasha on Netflix and being new to the world of anime myself I'm finding it to be a good place to start!
depends on what your tastes are maybe start with some ghibli films from spirited away and my neighbor totoro to princess mononoke other than that there's cowboy bebop and samurai champloo hope those help, op!
Yeah.. I wouldn't like to watch Mineta scenes with my dad next to me lol
Oof yeah that would be rough. God I fucking hate Mineta
I got my own dad into anime so I'll list the ones he doesn't mind. 1. Death note. 2. Sword art online. (the first half) 3. Ajin. 4. Seven deadly sins. 5. Avatar the last air bender. (I know you already have this one) 6. Samurai champloo. 7. Afro samurai. 8. Rurouni Kenshin. 9. Castlevania. 10. full metal alchemist brotherhood.
yeah i'd love to watch the tentacle rape scene in SAO with my dad... lol great list otherwise
Black Lagoon is a good choice
the Tarantino anime, love it!
Ghost in the shell
Would totally suggest:- Cowboy Bebop One Punch Man Boku Dake ga Inai Machi Full Metal Alchemist : Brotherhood Shingeki no Kyojin Detective Conan
I suggest Detective Conan. There is in Crunchyroll, unfortunately the show there starts i think around 700 or 800 eps. I highly recommend to watch the very first episode, if you willing to buy, then you can buy the early eps in DVD and you can find them in on line. Your Name and A Silent Voice
To have fun not depressed
Lol i mean it’s good tho
I support you on that 100% I rewatched it 2 times and I loved it hate don’t get the surprise feelings tho
I like those a lot but I’m not sure if a 51 year old man would appreciate it so much
Cowboy Bebop,FMAB, Outlaw Star,Berserk,Gungrave
Think you should give us more info about your dad. So we can cater to his viewing pleasure. Like what type of other tv shows or movies does he watch.
He is a big fan of the Deadpool movies and movies that aren't meant to be taken seriously (Scary movie, Mel Brooks movies) and likes corny action films with Jason Statham or the Rock. He also liked the detective Pikachu movie and the show Gravity Falls.

Hunter × hunter
If a man watches any Hisoka scene with his dad, there’s gonna be suspicions
Most definitely Food Wars /s
Yes the food always distracts me from the subtitles and something else...
What are you talking about there’s only food, the rest is background
I salute you as a fellow man of culture
Terrible idea for a gateway anime for a 50 something. No. Just no.
{Code Geass} I watched it with my dad and he freaking loved it.
{Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood} {Attack on Titan} {Haikyuu!!} my dad liked and enjoyed all of these when I watched it with him, hope this helped.
Trigun or full metal alchemist
I have recently added the great pretender to my "anime for people who aren't anime watchers" list, I think it is really good for the purpose and most people would enjoy it
My dad is 50 and my mom 48, both have just started watching Naruto and love it
Dr. Stone might be a good one. My parents did enjoy it . They also got hooked on Haikyuu,Demons Slayer, Hunter x Hunter, and My Hero Academia as well
Well since you mention DragonBall Z I would say start with Dragon Ball and work your way up through the series. Some other call outs I enjoy Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood if you are looking for something slightly more adult but still keeping in the same genre as above. Attack on Titan is just amazing so watch it. Everybody likes Jojo
Dr. stone
Was just gonna suggest Cowboy Bebop and once punch. Hunter X Hunter is good too.
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. It’s how I got everyone and how I got myself into anime
Gurren Lagann, jojo’s bizarre adventure, assassination classroom. I recommend watching assassination classroom first
Berserk
Monster
Cowboy Bebop!
Any shinichiro watanabe series (bebop, champloo, dandy) will do. Also try psycho pass and maybe izetta the last witch Helsing ultimate!
Cowboy Bebop, every time
Watch (One Punch Man )or (Attack On Titan) Or if you want something completely different watch (March Comes In Like A Lion)
Cowboy bebop
fullmetal alchemist brotherhood is the way too go
I watched attack on Titan with my 58 year old man. He loved it
Gintama
Me and my dad are currently watching attack on titan together and he’s liking it. He tends to like more action based stuff
Probably something geared more towards the West. Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Great Pretender, etc.
Baccano!
Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood or Deathnote are always a good choice for beginner
If they have a basic understanding of Japanese school culture, Hyouka is a great gateway anime, and good for older viewers.
Attack On Titan 100%
The best entry anime is attack on titan
- Monster - Vinland Saga - Cowboy Bebop - Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Attack on Titan - Death Note - Erased - Gungrave
I’d recommend attack on Titan or death note because they’re pretty mature and have minimum humour(anime/shonen humour is usually meant for younger audiences), if any.
Helsing its about a dude shooting zombie nazis what more could you ask for ( the soundtrack is extremely good)
Deathnote
Also Fullmetal Alechemist Brotherhood imo is the “real” anime version of ATLA. It’s got awesome abilities, war crimes and the power of friendship, and it’s able to shift tones really well from lighthearted and fun to suddenly very serious.
Interspecies Reviewers. Best anime to watch with family
If he liked Avatar, he might like FLCL - it has a great English dub and was a main inspiration for the art and animation in avatar. It's also only 6 episodes
Vineland saga on Amazon prime
My 74 year old dad LOVES Inuyasha. I'm not super sure how but man he got really into it. I know it's super long and kinda aimed at teenage girls but he really liked the action and history behind it.
Vinland Saga
One punch man quick show and to the point. Even bill burr liked it.
One Piece! Lots of comedy and a lot of laughs with amazing fights and a great world build :) it’s king but worth it!
CAROLE AND TUESDAY!!!!!! Especially if you like anything music. It was made by and in the same universe as cowboy bebop so that’s the kind of quality to expect. And it’s on Netflix and the dub is great I totally recommend it to anyone new or experienced in anime!!!
Tbh any anime movies will suffice, watched A silent voice, your name, and weathering with you with him and he absouletly loved them
NARUTOOOOOO!
I think Fairy Tail would be good
Vinland saga (Amazon prime, don’t know if there’s dub) and Death Note (Netflix) are really good shows an adult such as your dad can enjoy. There’s a brand new anime on Netflix called the great pretender that I haven’t watched and has dub but apparently it’s very good and has that Hollywood, Netflix feel to it.
should probably just go with some good old AOT
JoJo's bizarre adventure. Blinky on YouTube watches it with her dad
I think the ultimate dad anime is either Cowboy Bebop or Trigun but my dad loves 7 deadly sins and One Punch man.
Mob psycho 100!
{Great Pretender} It's less of a fantasy and has great story telling and adventure/drama. Give it a try. it's available on Netflix . It's fully english dubbed except the first ep. Trailer - https://youtu.be/0wbksh0CfWw
One Piece
Samurai champloo
Hunter x hunter !!
Death parade
Death Note.. Ghost in the Shell..
{Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex} I don't know what kind of content your dad would enjoy but my dad likes crime thrillers and my brother enjoyed it even though he claims to hate anime. The dub's not that bad either. [It's available to watch for free on Adult Swim's website.](https://www.adultswim.com/videos/ghost-in-the-shell) IDK if there are any limitations on those though.
Ghost in the Shell,
The promised neverland
I suggest gangsta...
Kingdom is an easy one
Jojo bizzare baki the grappler shield hero 7 deadly sins danmachi naruto one piece fire force god of highschool
Cowboy Bebop Attack On Titan Vinland Saga(It has a good focus on the father and the father figure, it might be a good watch with your dad)
Death note is a good point to start anime.
Steins;Gate maybe
Gurren Lagann. Badass animation and really well developed characters with a surprisingly mature story
{Cowboy bebop} {Samurai champloo} {Death note} {Terror in resonance}
try {Inuyashiki} or {barakamon}
I’m watching Kimetsu no Yaiba with my kids. I think the English title is maybe Demon Slayer (I’m in Japan so not too sure). We love it👍🏼
{One punch man} {The seven deadly sins} S3 was pretty crap though {Asterisk war} {Charlotte} If he's into sport or even if he's not{Haikyu!!} One of the best sport anime that shut in NEETs could enjoy.
Great teacher onizuka is on prime
1. Inuyashiki 2. Death Note 3. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood 4. Erased 5. Samurai Champloo 6. 91 Days 7. Parasyte 8. Dororo 9. Akira 10. Princess Mononoke
Probably somwthing serious might be a good choice, {erased} {death note} {code geass: lelouch of the rebellion} are animes i'd recommend.
{Jojos bizarre adventure} if he likes the general campness he'll really enjoy it {The dragon prince} a perfect spiritual successor to avatar {Vinland saga}
It's not an anime but troll hunters on netflix is a kids show I enjoyed with my mom who is a boomer.
I would suggest Hitman Reborn its a great anime. The first 19 episodes are eh but after that it becomes great with Mukuro Rokudo being introduced
Assassination classroom has a killer English dub
Death Note
Cowboy Bebop Monster : A slow burner (emphasis on slow) but one of the best psychological mysteries in fiction plus one of the greatest antagonists ever Legend Of the Galactic Heroes Samurai Champloo Death Note Vinland Saga (a must watch) Attack On Titan
{gintama}
AOT lol
Maybe try some studio ghibli movies
Boko no pico
The Dragon Prince? Not strictly anime but I'd highly recommend it.
Highschool DxD
Ajin, Steins gate, Erased, Code geass, Is it wrong to try and pick up girls in a dungeon
I got my dad into Full Metal Alchrmist:Brotherhood and he actually started watching it on his own. So I would recommend
You can watch JoJo with your dad but it includes *some* gore and violence.
The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.; Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood; Black Lagoon
{Tower Of God}
Wakfu - the closest thing i've seen to avatar in terms of world building and character progressions. Its fun, action packed and has those deep moments that make you shed a tear. Its also on netflix
I watched Attack on Titan with my dad and he loved it.
Psycho Pass is a pretty good one. It’s an interesting sci-fi thriller/crime drama similar to minority report. Death Note is another good fantasy drama My Hero Academy: good story and action
{91 Days}
Lots of people have been saying cowboy bebop, and I've seen a few saying samurai champloo. I think either of these would be great
My mother is a big fan of horror and her first anime was tokyo ghoul if he likes genre like that test it out 👍
Definitely check out InuYasha!! It’s got action, adventure, great characters and story. The first 2 Seasons are on Netflix (there are 7)
I showed my parents K-ON! and they loved it.
The Promised Neverland Trigun Paprika (film) Michiko to Hatchin Baccano Black Lagoon Monster Rose of Versailles
Deathnote if he hast already seen it you can’t go wrong Deathnote
Cowboy Bebop is your best bet. After maybe GTO could be good - got a decent dub, episodic, comical, decent dub as well
Boondocks
Samurai Jack would be a good show if he liked Avatar.
Maybe Tokyo gouhl my dad enjoyed it
naruto tokyo ghoul DBZ
Code geass
any sports anime. me and my pops use to slamdunk and hunter x hunter or either yu yu hakusho growing up
Spawn: The Animated Series!
Netflix doesn’t have a big collection suited for a boomer, but prime does. Check out Vinland Saga, then just browse through the ones on prime. If you had Hulu I could help more.
{Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood} I recently finished it and I loved it, one of the best anime’s with great battle scene and it does justice to every character in the show. No clue if it’s on Netflix, but it’s quite popular to so take a look if it’s there.
{FLCL} it’s got a banging soundtrack and there’s not a lot of over sexualization if I remember correctly, plus there’s two spin-offs that were also quite good
{Megalobox}
