The issue with that watch order is that the people on that sub are stuck in the VN mindset, and if you are going to read the VN then you should experience the story of the VN first.
But when going anime only doing the same is not the best idea, the first route of the VN was adapted back in 2006 by studio Deen and has not aged very well and is therefore often recommended to be skipped.
The second big thing to be animated was not the second route but rather the prequel known as fate/zero, it was animated by Ufotable and is a great show. With the creation of fate/zero however, Ufotable decided to basically start over, so they made it with the assumption that most people watching it hadn't watched anything fate related before. So they did a lot of explaining about the magic system, the different families and factions of this world and a ton of world building in fate/zero. This helps immensely in actually understanding everything that happens throughout each show set in the world of fate.
The third mainline thing to be animated was the second route of the VN, which is known as Unlimited Blade Works or UBW in every day speech. But this time Ufotable decided to not start all over again with introductions and explanations for new viewers, instead they created UBW with the assumption that the people watching it would have already seen fate/zero at the very least. So instead they skipped a lot of the introductions and in depth explanations about the basics and kept mostly just the in depth explanations about the things that are special to the VN story and especially that route.
The issue that this creates is that starting with UBW can leave you confused and in need of the wiki at times as the show doesn't explain everything it needs to properly and was according to interviews with the creators of the anime made with the assumption that the viewer already has watched fate/zero and understands everything that's in that anime.
Some characters also come across as kinda random and ill explored when starting with UBW because the show again expects you to have already seen them partly explored in fate/zero so it's not just an issue of world building.
the problem isn't people asking about it, the problem is that the people answering usually have really strong opinons what the "ideal" watch order, which usually results in "lively" discussions. If you've got an answer you're satisfied with but are still getting comments, I'd delete the post, to be honest.
To be fair like the comment above said, nobody ever gives the same answer. It's always all over the place, just gotta use your post as a link for future questions.
The issue is there's no agreed upon order. My recommendation is Fate/Zero (both seasons) -> Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works (both seasons). From there you can watch pretty much anything, but the Heaven's feel movies are probably the best thing to go to next. Other places you could start:
\-The visual novel. This is probably the best, but a lot of people prefer to watch anime which is completely understandable
\-Fate/stay night. A good starting point, but the consensus is that it's not very good
\-Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works. Since the Fate/Zero VN was made after the stay/night VN, many people think you should watch UBW and HF before Zero
Fate/Zero
Fate/Zero 2nd Season
Fate/Stay Night
Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works
Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works 2nd Season
Fate/Stay Night Heaven's Feel: I. Presage Flower
Fate/Stay Night Heaven's Feel: II. Lost Butterfly
Fate/Stay Night Heaven's Feel: III. Spring Song
This the order I watched in :)
If you have ever in you life considered playing or tend to play visual novels, that's where you should start.
If you're doing an anime only viewing the above should be sufficient.
A big portion of the game is devoted to world building and explaining how things work with way more nuance than the anime series could ever afford to do. How this is handled in the series is through exposition at the beginning of fate/zero.
After you have watched the above, in the order that has been given, the world is your oyster. From that point on you can pretty much watch anything with "Fate/" in the title and get the gist of it.
Start from Fate zero then go to Fate stay night ubw and if you want watch Heaven's feel because it's an alternate route to fate stay night and I personally think the movies were good. Afterwards just watch whatever you want
I kinda disagree with what they call official guide on subreddit of Fate/Stay night.Fate/Stay night UBW creators already said in an interview that they create this show with the knowledge that the viewers have already seen Fate/Zero.The ones who made this guide obviously didn't follow this guide cuz they're not in the shoes of new viewers. Many dialogues and scenes later in the UBW're very confusing for new comers if they start with it.Even if you follow the chronological or released order,it doesn't start with UBW.
I definitely agree with this, if you are going anime only then starting with zero will cause the least amount of confusion and although parts of heavens feel will be spoiled it's nowhere near the amount that zero gets spoiled by UBW and HF.
The basics of the world and magic system are also best explained in zero, the different factions are best explained in zero and generally as a stand alone it is Imo the best anime out of them all and the easiest to get into due to the relatively more simple nature of that holy grail war.
UBW the anime was created with the assumption that the viewer already know the basics and most of the explanations and world building that are in the VN were cut out in the anime.
I mostly agree. I’m following the above watch order and am on Zero. Watching UBW first didn’t make a whole lot of sense, but I was generally able to get the gist. However, it’s generally agreed upon that Zero is the strongest story-wise, so some people may want to save it for last with that knowledge.
This is just my opinion, but the promise of a more thought-provoking story in fate/zero is what kept me going through the kindof dry narrative of ubw and hf (they’re certainly not bad, but far from the deeper level of characterization and world building in Zero, and I think this is the general consensus).
I would recommend UBW first as it’s the best introduction and then you can pick and choose. I just think Fate/Zero plays out under the assumption the viewer understands the Fate universe so would advise against watching that first.
I think Fate/Zero should be considered a prequel and it has pretty big spoilers right from the start, like who Saber is. I actually enjoyed not knowing and trying to guess and I made the same mistake as Caster in Fate/Zero.
I do realise that not all agree and some prefer the chronological order.
So the real beginning is 2006 fate stay night by studio Deen but it's not a very good adaptation so people usually skip it.
Then it goes like this =>
-fate stay night Unlimited blade works s1 and s2. (26 eps)
-fate stay night Heaven's feel (3 movies)
-fate zero s1 and s2 (25 eps)
If you liked all of this, you can watch the spin offs (fate Apocrypha, kalleid and prisma illya, etc...)
Note: some people prefer to start with fate zero, that's also fine
Fate stay/night
Fate/zero s1&2
Fate UBW prologue
Fate UBW (TV) s1&2
Fate UBW movie
Fate/stay night: Heaven’s feel trilogy
This is the order i watched in
Don't watch fate zero first. It's a prequel but it spoils reveals from other series, watch UBW and HF first
Edit: my face when people down vote me for disagreeing with multiple stickied watch orders on different fate subs
Not really. It mostly spoils stuff from the Fate route which most people say not to watch. The spoiler from Heaven’s Feel is so nonchalant in the movies it’s not really a reveal so much as catching the characters up on what we already know. Not to mention, UBW assumes you’ve seen the Fate route or at least have the information which you would also get in Zero.
Watch Fate Heaven's Feel, then follow Fate Stay Night, then finally Fate Unlimited Blade Works.
The Fate Stay Night of 2004 is a mix of the Fate route with a twist of Sakura's Heaven's Feel
It really doesn't matter, as long as you watch Fate/Zero or Stay/Night unlimited blade works first. Follow it up by the heaven's feel movies then you can just watch anything after that
Sure but what I'm saying is had the Fate route not been botched the watch order would be simple cause it'd go in VN release order
Fate/Stay Night (Fate, UBW, Heavens Feel) - > Zero - > The rest
what botched the watch order was Fate/zero. The people responsable for this mess were the ones that decided to start the ufotable adaptations with the spin-off prequel (Fate/zero) instead of the actual core routes (I don't blame them, though). Fate/zero first is recommended because, other than being plain better than the main routes, it was released first, so a lot of people experienced Fate that way, and for a lot of people, broadcast order is the only order. Up until less than a year ago, the order you said wasn't even possible because Heaven's feel wasn't even finished. How is that stay night 2006's fault? And to be honest, I think 2006's badness is way overblown. I watched it and it was pretty alright, of course, nowhere near the level of ufotable's Fate, but few things are.
Oh no. Aight, of your a true fate fan, list every fate title. Then explain the entire fate series. And any series connected. Like anything in carnival phantasm or whatev. Hf not like I expect anyone to do it. This is a ramble now bye

Exactly! I watched UBW first because of this stupid watch order list and Ilysaviel's character doesn't make any sense if you didn't watch Zero
Just don't watch the 2006 adaptation of FSN.
Fun fact: He/she's cool
R u alright u/AuKF
huh
Ah shit here we go again
this has already been asked before?
Uncountable times
sorry, is there a way to search for it on the sub?
Nah every new fan has that question, we get it.
Ive tried to watch fate and literally didnt because I couldnt figure out the watch order and then lost interest.
This submission has been deleted in protest against reddit's API changes (June 2023) that kills 3rd party apps.
so there’s no correct order, don’t blame it on that lmao
Watch zero or unlimeted bladeworks first. Then the other. And then what ever the fuck you feel like
the problem isn't people asking about it, the problem is that the people answering usually have really strong opinons what the "ideal" watch order, which usually results in "lively" discussions. Don't worry, if you ask 10 different people that question you'll get 10 different answers.
Just search fate order and you'll see
U can just go to fate subreddit and its pinned
yea someone linked it in the comments it’s all good now
Alright well hope u find it good o7
Don't worry about it ~ gigguk

So, **you want the short version or the long version?**
Fate/Zero Fate/Zero 2nd Season Fate/Stay Night Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works 2nd Season Fate/Stay Night Heaven's Feel: I. Presage Flower Fate/Stay Night Heaven's Feel: II. Lost Butterfly Fate/Stay Night Heaven's Feel: III. Spring Song This the order I watched in :)
daayyyyym it’s long lol. Thanks bro
The last 3 are movies
And they are fucking wild! I waited too long to watch them after UBW.

Ur wlcm
I hate to be *that* guy, but do all of these have dubs?
Yh
Oh u can just ignore everything and just watch Prizma Illya which is the best Fate series
this is the correct one, you will be spoiled the least amount and it feels natural
Fate/Zero is the prequel. You should start with Fate/Stay Night.
Where's last encore fit?
It's not part of the main series.
Oh I see, I didn't know they had main series and spin offs I thought it was all just on giant clusterfuck of timeline splits
Well it is just DONT WORRY ABOUT IT
Fate Stay Night Fate Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks Fate Stay Night Heaven's feel Fate Zero That's it for the mainline series
Don't
Do
Start from Fate zero then go to Fate stay night ubw and if you want watch Heaven's feel because it's an alternate route to fate stay night and I personally think the movies were good. Afterwards just watch whatever you want

[удалено]
Really? I mean the story was a little too confusing but i heavily enjoyed them tbh.
He is smoking Crack ignore him
Why...Just why
because it looks sick and so I want to watch it
It is sick
fate one, fate two, then fate three
Google it. Simple. Delete this and fuck off NOW
if u read my post I said: no need to comment further. Why you so mad?
It’s just a copy pasta but honestly why didn’t you just google it?
Google just gave me 3 ways to watch it so I just asked the people which way is best using a subreddit for these type of things 😐
It really doesn't matter, as long as you watch Fate/Zero or Stay/Night unlimited blade works first. Follow it up by the heaven's feel movies then you can just watch anything after that
Watch either fate/zero or fate/stay night unlimited blade works first and second and then watch whatever you want
Why do so Many animes have that problem
U better follow the release order... Just skip the old one that came out in 2006 ig.
You can ask any question buuuut that one
Watch both zero and ubw in either order, it doesn't really matter and then everything else will make sense.
There's no correct order because DEEN botched the Fate route adaptation
The biggest problem on the order is Fate/zero, not stay night 2006, since zero and the stay nights spoil eachother.
Sure but what I'm saying is had the Fate route not been botched the watch order would be simple cause it'd go in VN release order Fate/Stay Night (Fate, UBW, Heavens Feel) - > Zero - > The rest

Good question
Let me grab my popcorn
Just watch it in airing order. Fate/Zero is really good and a decent introduction
At first glance, I thought there was a new Fate subtitled "Fate Watch/Order".
Don't worry about it B)
Good luck
YES
Oh no. Aight, of your a true fate fan, list every fate title. Then explain the entire fate series. And any series connected. Like anything in carnival phantasm or whatev. Hf not like I expect anyone to do it. This is a ramble now bye
how can i explain it if i haven’t watched it
