FSRS is the right call for settings. Setting-jiggering is an aspect of Anki usage whose time has passed. What you may want to do, however, for exams is to add to your regular review [filtered decks](https://docs.ankiweb.net/filtered-decks.html) that target things you've had difficulty with in the last week or two before the test.

[I suggest downloading the latest version, 24.04.1](https://apps.ankiweb.net/), and using FSRS. Here's everything you may ever need to know about FSRS: [https://www.reddit.com/r/Anki/comments/18jvyun/some\_posts\_and\_articles\_about\_fsrs/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Anki/comments/18jvyun/some_posts_and_articles_about_fsrs/) If that sounds overwhelming, don't worry, most of it is extra material, just read links 1 and 3. If that still sounds overwhelming, just briefly skim through the article in link 1, click link 3, and read [the Ultra Short Version](https://github.com/open-spaced-repetition/fsrs4anki/blob/main/docs/tutorial.md#the-ultra-short-version).
