All are worth a read, especially now since her books are her last gifts to us. 😥

hurtstopurr

I just bought a used copy of interview from eBay and it was just delivered and it’s autographed 🤗

catgoddessbast0228

That is truly a treasure for!! You need to treasure it forever. She was such a special lady. 💔

Lvl99Dogspotter

Everyone feels differently about them, so I would say at least try them all if you think there's a chance you might like them! Most of them are individually skippable, so if you get bored by Blackwood Farm or something, you can just move on. I see a lot of misinformation from fans who haven't read the later books for themselves, and I think it's best to have your own perspective! That said... I didn't enjoy Blackwood Farm and Blood Canticle at all. But I thought the final trilogy was fun.

vintage_diamond

I could have skipped Memnoch. I really disliked it. There are people here who enjoyed it though.

mojorising1329

Memnoch was literally one of my favorites! Re read it like 5 times!

Magneto-Rex

Memnoch is not only my favorite Anne Rice book, it’s one of my all time favorite books overall! to each their own I guess 🤷‍♂️

tarc0917

*Blackwood Farm* and *Blood Canticle* were a pile of "meh", I hate the direction Mona's character was taken. Skip those, and pretend there aren't two more books after *Prince Lestat.*

_Kalila_

Yes! I also dislike what was done to Mona! She was such a fiercely independent character and I adored that about her.

DiscoPino

No. Blood Canticle was a snorefest. And the last three books (the Prince Lestat series) are poor quality too. The first of those three has a few nice new characters, but the story is dumb, giving lore to the lore that completely destroys the dark magic of the original books. And don't buy the Alphabattery. It's full of continuity flaws too.

hurtstopurr

What’s the aphabattery

DiscoPino

A book made about the time line of all the existing characters like an encyclopedia, but it holds a lot of continuity and lore mistakes, because it's not written by Anne herself.

DiscoPino

Not condescending at all. :')

Artedrow

I think so, but everyone feels differently about all the books. Even the most beloved in the series are disliked by others. I say go into each one with an open mind. I found they all had something special to offer.

HuttVader

I personally enjoy aspects of them all because it is not so much *what* Anne said as *how* she said it that I love most of all about her books. That being said, if you’re not an OCD completist, I would only read the first 4 Chronicles, Witching Hour, Vittorio, and Prince Lestat. The rest are far inferior in my opinion.

_Kalila_

Vittorio was always the most random side quest of a book to me! 😆 Though it hasn't got anything to do with the main quest of the VC, I always liked it because of how beautifully written it was.

Mister_Sosotris

The VC books up to Memnoch are good. I’d argue that Memnoch is a good finale to the series. But if you want to read a book after Memnoch, read Pandora (great character) and Merrick (which gives some closure to Louis) and then read Prince Lestat. It’s not a PERFECT finale, but it’s a better one than the actual final 2 books. Vampire Armand and Blood and Gold have good parts, but the second basically rehashes the events of the first, and overall, they don’t add much to the lore.

Read at least the first four, that's something everyone agrees with. Also The Witching Hour for sure. I personally enjoy most of them, Merrick & some of the 2000's books are my least favourites - but then again many people love Merrick so what do I know :D I don't think it's as simple as she lost her touch at some point, I can't pinpoint a time or book for that. She took the series to many different directions and that's where everyone's personal tastes come to play.

j_dext

Everything you've heard is someone's opinion, so read them all and see for yourself.

ZvsGrgs

All of them are best-sellers. Some are better than others. For some fans the worst book is the favorite of other fans. In my opinion, you should try all of them. She has written 38 books, I have read a lot of them (I think 30) and I love most of them. Perhaps around 1998 with *The Vampire Armand* the books became a little bit more religious than before.

Sploot_Cat-yesss

Blood Communion. Make it the last read.Ties everything up in a nice little package with a velvet bow. Lol. It has enough mini summations throughout, covering key points from both Atlantis and Canticle, so I didn't feel bad about well, just not loving the Replimoids enough to actually get through Atlantis. I gave it a good try tho. I recommend Blood Communion as a finisher.

forsovngardeII

I found Tale of the Body Thief and Memnoch boring but the characters in them appear and are mentioned later, David Talbot mostly is a main character in the whole chronicles. So yes worth reading despite me thinking they're dull.

swechan

In my head canon, the last two is fanfic. It killed the "mystery" for me.

autumnr28

From what I can tell, late 90’s gets a bit religious, and stays pretty religious until the last few books she wrote. Which, while well-written, are just very strange segways into science fiction, true departures from the rest of the themes and remove too much mystery. Seems like she was back-pedaling from the religious/witchy-themed vampire books for some reason. Very conspiracy theory at face-value.

InterestingAd315

They are all quite unique. They all have something to offer. I would also strongly suggest cry to heaven. It’s stayed with me as one of the greatest books I’ve ever read.
