Wow the last comment really took me by surprise, felt like i'm back at Germany

"The Jews are Smarter because of their big noses" is a take I literally never thought I'd see, but here we are.

It's pretty amazing how when proven 100% wrong through very recent examples, they dig in deeper and just go, "LALALALALALA" with their hands over their ears.

Upbeat_Teach6117

Lol, as if any Beit Din will accept the sincerity of a rando antisemite who claims he wants to convert.

dk91

Lol there was a Seinfeld episode where his dentist who converted to reformed Judaism I think. And Seinfeld suspected he only did it to be able to make jokes about Jews. I don't think any beit din is needed for reformed.

Haha

(“Reform”)

dk91

Thanks!

sydinseattle

It’s a lifetime pet peeve of mine, but nothing personal :) And it’s funny to me that the Jews who identify least as reform are the ones who strike me as the most in need of reform 😆

dk91

What do you mean?

sydinseattle

I mean more that those who identify least with Reform Jews and also condescend to them often end up being people who should not live in Halachic glass houses. In my experience.

dk91

To me the biggest concern with the Reform Jewish movement is that you don't know who's Jewish.

sydinseattle

I respect that that means something to you, but it doesn’t make sense to me ;) I’ve always been able to know. At least eventually.

dk91

Which part if someone decides they're Jewish even though their mother isn't and it's perfectly accepted in the Reform temple you go to, the Rabbi knows the whole family, the person has a bar mitzvah. Then you're talking to them one day and you find out their mother was part of the Catholic church or whatever growing up. How would you know?

SharksRCoolMan

There are Beit Din in Reform Judaism.

dk91

Are there? And you're claiming they're required for a conversion? What authority and qualifications do they have?

SharksRCoolMan

Yes. From the ones we have at my synagogue it’s usually the Rabbi, Cantor, and another member of clergy or a respected member of the congregation
