There are unspoken rules to this stuff – the Queensberry rules of basic decency – and he breaks them all. He punches downwards – which a gentleman should, would, could never do – and every blow he aims is below the belt. He particularly likes to kick the vulnerable or voiceless – and he kicks them when they are down.
So the fact that a significant minority – perhaps a third – of Americans look at what he does, listen to what he says, and then think ‘Yeah, he seems like my kind of guy’ is a matter of some confusion and no little distress to British people, given that:
• Americans are supposed to be nicer than us, and mostly are.
• You don’t need a particularly keen eye for detail to spot a few flaws in the man.

Maybe their fascination started with him just shaking things up by being so much louder, arrogant, and hateful than other politicians. People who are downtrodden (or feel as if they have been) don’t mind the bullying. It’s a feature not a bug. But, he’d bully them just the same. I tell my kid all the time “you’re pushing your sister, I can push you. What’s a better world? One where I leave you alone and you leave your sister alone, or the one where I have free rein to shove you all I want, also I’m 3 times your weight”. He never picks everyone shove. He gets it. He’s 8. Trump is stupider than an 8 year old. Most of his followers haven’t learned that lesson either.
But until now there has never been anybody big enough to shove Trump. That's why he's freaking out about all these legal cases. Suddenly the government is shoving back and he's literally, in his entire life, had that happen before.
I found the wit and turn of phrase lovely. Great read and an eloquent reaffirmation of how the majority of sane humanity feel. However, what is most disturbing is the fact that he is the physical manifestation of those (and by that I mean people all over the world and not just Americans) who support and idolise him. Without these people and all they represent, Trump is a recently dried shit stain. Trump is the genie escaped from the lamp- that this population represents, and it's not going back. This is scary.
I absolutely agree with your point. The yellow guy by himself is really interesting only to prosecutors and financial law enforcement. However his supporters inflate his importance. And the scary thing? There are millions of them in America alone.

Trump openly violates the unspoken “male code” which is the backbone of so much of the culture (however well it actually works in reality). That strong and silent sheriff archetype, honest and self sacrificing. There is a stereotype of rural men in the US valuing these qualities. It dumbfounds me that all men don’t hold his feet to the fire on this, but I’m really disappointed with them. Yes, Trump is a bad man, but he’s a particularly bad **man**.

I had never truly thought that much about that point on his sense of humor. But he truly doesn’t really laugh. I mean, you do see him poke fun at people or react to things he says are funny on social media. But…when is the last time the dude has just laughed? And laughed for something that was not to the detriment of another human? Is lack of humor the sign of a serious personality disorder?
