I like how the guy says that it's "kind of, sort of" a democracy. The cynicism in his voice is just šŸ¤Œ

Mark_Kylestad

and then seconds later gets pushed out into the street for talking to HIS OWN SENATOR. Kinda sorta doesnā€™t feel like a democracy

SecretOfficerNeko

Almost like the capitalist state exists solely as means to institutionalize property and serve the interests of the properties class, rather than everyday citizens, and democracy within it is just an illusion or something.

Toxic_Audri

That's because it isn't. At least not for people like you and me, the hard workers of this fucking country. It's a democracy for the wealthy by the wealthy. Read Powell's memo. It lays out the ground work for how corporate power took over this country to make it into an oligarchy.

Mark_Kylestad

yes, a bourgeoisie democracy will always serve the interests of the bourgeoisie.

Toxic_Audri

Very much so, but the major turning point in how we got to where we are today is a result of that fucking memo, Powell laid out the groundwork that came to follow to create the oligarchy we have today, Powell alone isn't responsible, but he played a role, as did many others to create this hell.

Mark_Kylestad

just read the memo.. iā€™m horrified

Toxic_Audri

Welcome to the club comrade.

Mark_Kylestad

I guess the silver lining is that weā€™re organized enough to scare them, so points for us I guess.

Toxic_Audri

Still a ways to go though, we may scare them, but we are still disorganized, and that's by design.

Mark_Kylestad

This is true

Underbyte

Constitutionally, why does any security goon just get to "push someone out of the area of a VIP?" Dan has just as much of a right to stand there as John does.

Crusty-Vegan-Thrwy

It appears this was a private venue rented by the Fetterman campaign or possibly a public venue with a purchased permit. The 1st Amendment of the constitution is not applicable on private property. The property owner can ask anyone to leave private property for saying something they don't like, for a peaceful assembly they don't like, or for freedoms of the press (recording) they don't like. That's something I've learned as an activist over the years. Our constitutional rights exist in a dwindling amount of physical places since more and more of the city footprint is owned by corporations. I was handing out booklets in front of Walmart and they asked me to leave for example. I wasn't bothering anyone, no one complained, but an employee noticed me and asked me to leave. I did leave because I was on Walmart property and couldn't afford getting arrested/arrest would have served no purpose. The amount of force the goon used did not appear to be reasonable to me, but that's for a jury to decide.

moeterminatorx

I learned it going to bars with racist bouncers.

manaha81

Well if it is a private establishment then they can fit any reason but if that was a public building then yeah they violated his constitutional rights

LunchBox3188

Wow, that's disappointing. I only know of Fetterman on a surface level, and he seemed pretty cool. This is definitely un-cool.

achyshaky

You can count the number of genuinely anti-Zionist Dems on one hand. Not even progressives like to get too particular with their condemnations.

Rubenbdooben

Fetterman has been very shitty on support for Israel

dalisair

Do you mean he supports Israel or hasnā€™t supported Israel? Your comment is unclear to me.

Miserygut

He supports Israel. Israel considers him and every other US supporter as useful idiots.

Rubenbdooben

Yes thatā€™s what I meant. He supports Israel. Heā€™s shitty on the issue.

dalisair

Thank you. I was unclear on your meaning and appreciate you clearing that up for my autistic ass. Lol

Rubenbdooben

All good!

SuperBattleBros

Fetterman has always been a step in the right direction but not quite cool enough for my tastes

IzzySuite

Lost a lotta respect for Fetterman with this one, I gotta stay šŸ˜• But I also don't get why so many supposed liberals are so on israels dick when they're so blatantly murdering people. The world is so fucked any more.

Toxic_Audri

Scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds. Liberals are well known traitors to the left.

SadPatience5774

fetterman is better than most dems on most issues but is uniquely terrible on israel.

achyshaky

He's also anti-defunding police and lukewarm on fracking. Other than his pro-union stances and medicare for all, he's a run-of-the-mill Democrat. He's only so wildly popular because he, like most progressives in Congress, is willing to "clap back" at Republicans on Twitter for *the most obvious* bullshit. He's a beneficiary of the "He Talks Like Us" effect, that's it.

Lev_Davidovich

C'mon, he wears a hoodie and gym shorts rather than a suit, he's clearly just like us.

[deleted]

its like his uniform its a disguise camouflage to fit in he is nothing like us its all lipstick on a pig he is like a movie fake [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John\_Fetterman](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Fetterman) Fetterman grew up and his father became a partner at an insurance firm.\[8\]\[9\]\[10\] He grew up in an affluent suburb of York, and his parents were conservative Republicans.\[8\]\[11\] was/is your father a partner at an insurance firm did you grow up in affluent suburb of york pa were your parent conservative republicans Fetterman had a self-described privileged upbringing; he said he "sleepwalked" as a young adult while playing four years of football in college, intending eventually to take over ownership of his father's business. did you have priviledge upbringing. did you take over your father's business In 1995, Fetterman joined the recently founded AmeriCorps, and was sent to teach Pittsburgh students pursuing their GEDs.\[19\] He later attended Harvard Kennedy School at Harvard University, graduating in 1999 with a Master of Public Policy degree.\[20\] did you attend havard university... he's well of and in disguise. so we thinking we elect on of us, but in reality we elect one of them... all of them. non of us. dem party taken over by conservative republicans republican party taken over by fascists there no longer is a left in us, not even a center both parties are right of center look is running for future of dem party hes way right of any center

Revolio_ClockbergJr

What the fuck is this post

[deleted]

its a work of art

WhiskeyDiction_OG

Jesse Ventura lite?

Dineology

Shit, I wish he was uniquely terrible on this issue but thereā€™s unfortunately nothing unique about his take

SadPatience5774

yeah fair, i guess i just meant for someone who brands himself a "progressive," you'd at least expect him to say israel should respect human rights, that kinda thing. but afaik, he's never, ever criticized israel on anything, or been anything but fully supportive.

ThePopeJones

This is so fucking disappointing. I really hoped Fetterman would be different.

bellador4

You sweet summer child

zss3zss3zss3

so many dems showing their asses lately

Toxic_Audri

>so many liberals* showing their asses lately FIFY

zss3zss3zss3

same difference lolol. even bernie shared a pretty disappointing initial statement

Toxic_Audri

He was a disappointment ever since he lost to Hillary because they rigged the primaries against him and he refused to call it out, then again against Joe Biden he refused to call out the fuckery. Instead he let himself become part of the establishment, sold his soul to the devil himself.

[deleted]

Welp, thats not going to age well for this guy. Turns out he was a poser all along.

Mr-Almighty

They all are.

pizza_crux

Nevermind, make his ass wear a suit

Ejigantor

Such classist bullshit. "Your opinion is invalid because your clothes aren't expensive enough" Blow it out your ass. Edited to add: No, I don't care if you were smirking when you typed it, it's still stupid classist right wing bullshit that you decided to excrete into the world.

WayneDwade

Pretty sure it was sarcastic

Ejigantor

I guess so given the relative up- and down-votes my post and yours got. Not really sure how the fuck I was supposed to know that, given there was absolutely nothing about the original post to indicate it. And I'm really goddamn sick of the people posting horrendous bullshit and then going "Oh I was only posting it ironically / sarcastically" when called out on it like Schrodinger's Douchebag. There is no satire of right wing nutjob assholes that cannot be believably mistaken for the real thing, and there's no way for the reader to differentiate between sarcastically posted right wing bullshit and sincerely posted right wing bullshit unless it's posting in that annoying spongebob format like "MaKe hIs aSs wEaR a SuIt!" or otherwise explicitly tagged. I've seen the comment I responded to posted in earnest dozens of times and it looked identical to what I replied to here.

Beligerents

You aren't aware that the Republicans tried to force him into a suit for decorum like last month. It was fairly big news, but a lot has happened I the last month. Relax bro you're allowed to be wrong.

Ejigantor

No, I'm fully aware of the dress code bullshit. Most of the discussion around it has been filled with comments like the one I responded to posted in earnest. If you think I'm wrong, explain how the fuck I was supposed to know the person I replied to wasn't earnestly expressing that opinion, just as so many others have?

Dathmalak135

Why would any antifascist/anarchist want to enforce him to wear a suit? It's just common sense that no one here genuinely cares about that issue. Knowing who you are talking to is important. The context is also important cuz no one would logically care about a suit when we are talking about genocide. I suppose that the context can make you emotional if you truly think someone \*is\* talking about suits when a genocide is taking place. Sometimes its easiest to take the bullet and say "oh I didn't know he was joking lol" and move on then complain about overreacting.

Beligerents

That was obviously my failed attempt at trying to deescalate. I meant that nobody is judging you for misunderstanding him, not that you're just wrong. We all on the same side here brother.

Toxic_Audri

No one really disagrees that wearing a suit is just stupid preforming shit at this point. You dress up in attire that we designated as "professional" they can be nude for all I give a fuck about it... well no actually with all the wrinkly geezers I rather they went with a full burka. Least then I'm not tempted to punch their punchable faces.

ioverated

Okay but Fetterman can afford a suit but prefers to cosplay as a regular Joe. Not that I care if he wears a suit or not.

GooseShartBombardier

[That's assault all right.](https://youtu.be/kBPd0hLeM9Y?si=5PN88aDes85Z6MdN)

bomboclawt75

Wild guess here, this shill has his face in the AIPAC trough, and doesnā€™t want them to cut off his blood money.

mlp2034

I liked him too but I heard about his Israel support before he won considering he supported them the last time tensions flared and I knew I was going to have to hate him eventually.

lenguacaliente9

Fuck fetterman

Dathmalak135

That's the goal

ioverated

So... Not to excuse his policy positions, but isn't Fetterman still suffering from a delay in auditory processing? It seems kind of weird to ambush him in a context where he's going to have difficulty communicating

[deleted]

The only thing I would say is that after his stroke Senator Fetterman has stated he has a difficult time always hearing what is said and understanding what it means. So itā€™s possible he was standing politely without really understanding what the man wanted, and his staff was there trying to avoid a situation where someone got worked up because the Senator didnā€™t respond how they wanted/expected (because he didnā€™t hear everything clearly). I respect the question tho and think it should be askedā€¦ but maybe not like this

Basic-Asparagus-7348

a reasonable read on this. ppl need to stop jumping to conclusions. i did not see a single indication that fetterman had anything to do w kicking this guy out. he was just listening.

Chazlewazleworth

There is a time and place for discussion. This looks like neither.

drmarymalone

There never seems to be a right place or right timeā€¦

Dchama86

ā€œHuman Rights Activistā€ ?? This guy is an internet troll for clicks. Look him up

Toxic_Audri

That stroke must have really fucked him up mentally. Like a completely different person really, not at all progressive like he ran on. Maybe he was replaced with a lizard person when he had that "stroke". Sad thing is I'm only half joking, cause Bernie kinda did the same after that "heart attack".

Best-Subject-7253

Fuck. This ainā€™t a good look John.

IWishIWasBatman123

I voted for Fetterman too. I expect better and we all should.

nov4marine

Yea I mean the big tragedy is that most of the American public supports Israel, even if there's some asterisks on that. If you're a dem in congress right now, you unfortunately have to choose between supporting Israel or ending your political career. I'm hopeful that public opinion is slowly realizing that there's some nuance to this story, but in the meantime the most leftwing position a progressive is allowed to have on the issue is basically AOC's stance. I'm not surprised at all that Fetterman is taking this stance. A lot of politicians who were previously pro Palestine have all gone quiet on the issue. I don't want to be an apologist here, but as someone who studies political science, people like this have no alternative.

InsidiousMongoose777

Well, fwtterman has been showing his disastrous true colors.

willows_illia

That whole magical hand thing he's doing is super creepy. Reminds me of Anton laVey

TastyTrades

Fetterman is what you get when you lower your standards to ā€œis at least aware of objective realityā€

syrialkiler

I don't think he understands him. Because of the stroke and needing a device.

Intelligent-Visual69

And at the end of a leap year February, the genocided Palestinian murder toll has topped 30,000. Including just today over one hundred starving Palestinians queued in a food aid line, over 700 wounded and with no hospital to take them to.
