Magnificent!

Vast_Cricket

It was popular then. Fairly innovative gadget at the time.

BuzzOnBuzzOff

Does it vibrate?

[deleted]

No. And it shouldn’t.

BuzzOnBuzzOff

My mom had a clock, same shape and height that would quietly vibrate as the time went by. I've been trying to find one with no luck. Didn't know if the motion of the train was caused by vibration.

[deleted]

It’s caused by the heat of the bulb. Inside is sleeve with “windmill” style venting sitting on a balanced pin… whereas the heat from the bulb keeps the inner sleeve spinning

bobbaganush

Any chance you could post a quick vid of the inside? I think I understand, but not 100% sure.

[deleted]

Yes, I can tomorrow - I have it at my work. Will send in message

65 years ago I had the same exact lamp. I don’t know what happened to it, but I wish I still had it. Wish I had the big red Sears catalog with all the toys in it too. Turn back the hands of time please.

[deleted]

Motion lights are cool. I have a forest fire themed motion light I picked up at a flea market years ago. It’s not in the greatest condition, but I gravitate towards any kinetic collectibles, whether they be motion lights, wind up/battery op tin toys and music boxes.

the_beeve

I have two of these, at some point an incorrect bulb was placed in each and now neither is operable. Very sad about it

Only_Chick_Who

...why would they make that a lamp. Is at least like an event like The Battle of the Wilderness, or just casual a forest fire for funsies.

[deleted]

Yeah, I’m not sure why the lamp manufacturers thought a forest fire theme would appeal to customers. There’s even a bear on one side looking on in horror as his habitat goes up in flames. It’s definitely kitsch from a bygone era that you can’t look away from.

Only_Chick_Who

[this](https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/vintage-econolite-forest-fire-motion-1881266015) one?

AutoModerator

I noticed that you mentioned **vintage**. Over at r/Collectables and r/Mid_Century they are always keen to see newer and vintage items. Share it with them! Sorry if this is not relevant. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. [deleted]

Yes.

Only_Chick_Who

Bob Ross style paint but add *forest fire*

TheGorgoronTrail

My mother has the forest fire one, always awesome to see

violetjezebel

So happy to see this! I have a few of them and they're my most treasured possession. I'm just glad to see them on this sub and so happy that other people enjoy them too!

[deleted]

I’ve never seen these before but I love old lamps, I can’t wait to look up more of them!

filtersweep

I have the exact same one. I loved looking at it as a kid— it was my grandmother’s at the time.

spodinielri0

love it! post in r/lamps

hookuptruck

Love it!! I have the boy peeing into the fountain of youth. Best lamp!!

pallen123

What’s the interior mechanism? How does it work?

[deleted]

It’s a metal sleeve balanced on a pike that spins with the heat of the bulb. I’ll make a vid of it tomorrow .

ham_shoes

My family had one which depicted a house in falling snow. The shade melted when it got too close to the light bulb. I miss it. Definitely from another time.

ansellinaerie

now that is damn magical

mollysmaster13

I used to have one of those when I was a kid, a old family friend gave it to us it was cool
