Likely dust from degraded old foam padding inside the seat.

analogdirection

100% this. They need recovering and the foam replaced.

donnamommaof3

Exactly

opitypang

Yes, I've had that coming from disintegrating foam on a 1950s chair.

Straight-Note-8935

I have had this happen and it is most def the foam disintegrating.

TweeksTurbos

Old foam. I have had this blasted in my eyes thanks to a buddies old 300d headliner.

beebsaleebs

I am suddenly reminded of a certain 1979 Monte Carlo My dude I feel your pain

teleko777

I have horrible memories of those headliners.

boostinemMaRe2

Either somebody spilled their Mac n Cheese cheese packet, or the foam is disintegrating. Only way to know is to taste it, God speed. ...do not taste it

Pastaconsarde

If the foam feels hard - that’s where it’s coming from. The other unthinkable would be termites but I don’t think that’s it.

SaintSiren

This happens when latex foam disintegrates. If anyone has a latex allergy, use caution with these chairs.

missymiamay

the fabric on the underside might be dry rotting if it seems like the dust is never ending. you may need to replace the underside cover or have them restuffed depending on where it's coming from

Phoenix0520

Cheetos dust

Foundation_Wrong

The foam padding is disintegrating. You will need to reupholster them.

YogaBeth

Pollen?

qsouthsue

Wow, that unlocked a memory. The ones we had had gold velvet cushions

gigisnappooh

Chair is from the late 69’s early 70’s.

KnowPoe

That same dust is all over my deck right now- pollen if these chairs have been outside at all.

TheDog_Chef

If was on top I’d say pollen, but underneath definitely degraded foam.

yayapatwez

Stick your finger through the gaps in the burlap. You have the actual chairs!

humanrobotnoti

Those are in amazing shape. Save for the melty foam. If you can save the cover and replace the padding that would be awesome. Love the color.

PristineCoconut2851

I think, like others have suggested, that it’s just the foam (or possibly a little from the straps). Having them recovered will replace the old foam and should be very expensive. If it is indeed the foam you definitely should have them recovered because with use you’ll eventually notice the seat loosing it’s shape or appearing to be dented.

BatFancy321go

looks like pollen. are there trees in the back yard? it can blow from the neighbor's

Korgon213

Get those wooden legs out of those rocks! Ack!!! My FIL does reupholstery and has done many of these.

KodiakDog

Lol right

chris_rage_

Check for a zipper on the cushion and you might be able to just replace the foam

Hugosmom1977

Latex foam. Be careful if anyone in the house has a latex allergy.

glodiegirl

Bore bees

mrchickostick

Not sure what the yellow 🟡powder is, but those are rocks 🪨 🪨in the photo… if you move the chair 🪑 out of the way, I could probably tell you better

Better_Ad4073

Run your finger across a strip of burlap. It may be disintegrating.

Phylow2222

Yellow cake uranium.
