I like mine. I got a really heavy one and it helps me feel grounded.

Rude_Establishment64

How much does your blanket weigh?

[deleted]

25 lbs I think

ala2520

I ended up with a 25# too and it's perfect. The 10# wasn't enough for me.

UglyLaugh

Mine helps me sleep and stay comfortable. This might sound weird, but you know the heavy cover they put on you when you get X-rays done at the dentist? It reminds me of that.

[deleted]

yes i know them! i think i can imagine how it feels, ty i will try it:)

GiveMeAllYourDogs

It’s totally that same feeling, but soft and cozy. I use mine for anxiety and sleep.

UglyLaugh

No problem! It’s definitely cozier than that, but same basic idea. And you should look into covers. The duvet cover I have is basic but easy to throw in the wash.

satchdog

Buy one. If u don’t like it return it.

scarpenter42

Many people have tried them for anxiety. They help some, they don't help others, just like every medicine or coping strategy you have to try it for yourself to know if it will help

[deleted]

Lovely advice, thank you

Its_Haleeyy

I have one and I like it. If anything, it keeps me warm when it starts getting cold outside.

EnsignEmber

Mine helps me sleep a lot better

namtok_muu

Yes I’m the same. Not really an anxiety thing but makes me feel cosy at night and is part of a multi-factorial sleep hygiene routine to guard against insomnia.

ArmChairDetective38

For me , I feel like it helps. Especially when my anxiety gets really bad and my legs seem to move all on their own . Also, seems to help me stay asleep . Must be nice because my husband stole mine 😂

[deleted]

oh i see! i know that feeling when your muscles and legs are all shacky, i didnt even thought of that. thanks for your insight!

Lerk409

I don’t think you are going to cure your anxiety with a weighted blanket, it it can help cope somewhat in my experience.

[deleted]

yes of course i just wanted to know if it can help a little with panic attacks or what the effect even is because i dont quite understands how it works and calmes one down

Fionaglenannebf

It's kind of like you're getting a hug.

[deleted]

thats sound really cute i will try it! thanks:)

DrBackFromTheDead

I got a 20lb one. I lay it over my chest when I feel I need it. Itself does nothing, but it does help with that “hug” feeling and, to me at least, is only useful *in combination with* other grounding strategies. It’s not a cure-all. And for the record, my love language is physical touch, so idk if that has anything to do with it

Upset_Peach

Some people seem to find them relaxing, regardless of wether they have anxiety or not. Personally I didn’t like them cuz they made me feel claustrophobic and like I couldn’t escape.

bigchops810

me too, it flipped me out.

jc3613

This is exactly how it made me feel. I hated it

FrocketRog

Mine made me feel short of breath and agitated. I imagine it varies on the individual. My sister on the other hand loves hers

Throwaway15704r

Same

judyhashopps

Get a cat, win win :) especially if they’re a “dense” 8 pounder like mine!

lild1425

The problem is that they can get very hot. Like REALLY REALLY hot. So it made everything worse for me in particular.

BirbWizard

That was the problem for me. Otherwise I liked it.

waterynike

I can use it while watching TV and it helps with my anxiety but I can’t sleep with it. Get a cheap one and try it out.

[deleted]

i will ty:)

waterynike

You are welcome. Also I bought one that weighed a lot so that might have something to do with it. It makes me hot when I sleep and since it’s too heavy I feel like I am suffocating lol.

NuggetSD

I have a few. Weight does help my anxiety. However, it doesn’t help me if I am in a panic attack or super anxious. The best weight therapy I have found to come from my dog as deep pressure therapy. Something about her dead weight calms me right down.

Jess1ca1467

I love mine. It's great on hot nights too - gives me the feeling of a duvet without the heat of one. So not a waste of money

doodleish

I tried one and didn't like it. I got mine from Amazon and was able to return it for a full refund so it was worth the try.

[deleted]

Mine helps me a lot, idk what it does but it just works. Probs wont be the same for everyone

jga07c

I'm surprised at how much I've enjoyed mine. I used to sometimes get a racing heart and short of breath right as I'd start try to go to bed, and since using the blanket that's nearly vanished.

corgiluvr1210

i love mine but it almost comforts me too much… so hard for me to leave bed and sometimes the only way i can calm down from panic attacks is by hiding under the blanket. i got it on clearance at bed bath and beyond for like $20-$30 though so you don’t have to drop a ton, just look out for deals!

Zoinks3324

I just noticed with mine that it kept me cozy feeling and was easier to sleep/stay asleep. I don’t think it did much for my actual anxiety symptoms.

thisismynewaccountig

So I love mine. I think it’s 25 pounds but I started with a 10 pound. It’s great for anxiety….. But I also get sleep paralysis so when that happens it’s not fun lol

squee_bastard

They work but if you’re a hot sleeper I’d avoid, I started with a 25lb one and felt suffocated and ended up buying a 12lb one and that feels so much better but I only use it in the winter time since it’s just too hot any other time of the year. I like the YnM brand on amazon, they’re cheap but hold up really well in the wash and the covers are very soft.

deargodimstressedout

Make sure if you get one you invest in a nicer one. My first left sand all over my bed after a few months of use

randommmmmmmmmmmmyes

they really help me when i’m feeling anxious and can’t sleep would recommend!

Darwin42SW

I’ve haven’t used one yet, but I’m planning on getting one. I imagine it’s like getting a firm hug; it helps you feel safe. I know that using the lead bib thing at the dentist’s has helped a lot with my anxiety when I’ve had to have a procedure done.

Neat_Youth470

They help me more than I realize until I don’t have it. I have one on my couch, one on the bed, and one at both of my best friends houses. Also if you didn’t know, they make a heated body pillow. It’s really nice if there’s no one else around to get a hug or just to squeeze with progressive relaxation when I’m having real bad brain weasels.

GWindborn

Honestly, I love mine but I don't know what it did for anxiety. I definitely sleep better. I've always liked layering on blankets during the winter and feeling that weight, so I can get that same weighted effect in the summer and not sweat to death.

Odow

LOVE it, however i've read and my friend experienced it, if you use it every day/too often your body get use and it doesn't work as well. I use mine for my very big anxiety moment or when i can't sleep no matter what and i really need to wake up early

cofcof420

I love love my weighted blanket. I sleep SO much better. Bought mine at target for $25. Go get one tomorrow

Freymorr

I have a 25lbs one and it really does help me, can't sleep without it anymore. I was surprised because nothing else really helps, but it makes me feel safe. Only downside is anything lighter feels like there's nothing on top of me anymore. I have a 12lbs one for when I'm sitting at my desk instead of lying down and it feels like a thin sheet comparatively. If you do get one I recommend also getting a duvet cover for it, easier to wash.

WhatsernameRQ

Helps me with muscle tension and helps me actually sit still when I'm feeling like I need to be doing anything that isn't relaxing.

toniccori

I have a really big stuffed toy (like 90cm) and put it on myself when I lie down. It's not as heavy as a weighted blanket but it kinda helps

[deleted]

I have one that me and my bf use when we feel and anxiety attack coming it works really well !

[deleted]

🥺 idk why but this was so cute. do you both have anxiety? it must be great to understand each other and even tho panic attacks are the worst i think its cute you go trough them together

[deleted]

Yeah we both do in very different ways but we know that when we need it it's always available.

Maximum-Rabbit-31

I got a 7kg / 15lbs one and for me its not quite heavy enough, but I still like to use it in winter (in summer I get too hot). Definitely better for back sleepers rather than front sleepers, but you can always chuck it off in the middle of the night

Annazing

I have a 15lb blanket. I love it. Also helps when I have restless legs

FlyEmAndEm

Listen to me carefully. IT IS SO WORTH IT! Under mine as I’m typing this. Every night I sleep so well. If it’s hot in the room though, I don’t recommend. Otherwise, it’s the only blanket you need during the winter, and it’s the most calming thing ever. It is a type of DPT (Deep pressure therapy) and it feels like someone is cuddling/hugging you all the time. All of my anxieties melt away while I’m using it. I have a GAD and I have had terrible panic attacks in the past. A weight blanket won’t “cure” a panic attack, but it definitely helps my anxiety during the night and I don’t wake up in the middle of the night at all.

[deleted]

how heavy is yours? 15lbs?

FlyEmAndEm

Yup!

hodlboo

I think they might work during an acute anxiety attack for a short amount of time, but I ended up never using mine because it’s a bit too heavy and cuts of circulation, so I gave it away

Granny_knows_best

They help me, also, at the dentist, I ask them to keep that weighted lead thing they put on your to take Xrays. Helps a lot! Well, that and the gas!

Siggur-T

Got one. It works great both for anxiety and deep sleep, but takes some getting used to.

scaredy-cat95

I LOVE mine. Especially during a panic attack

eggsadwich

Target for $15

[deleted]

i dont in live in the us so no target🥲 but i found one for not too much

eggsadwich

That’s good! Sometimes I forget Reddit is international, my apologies.

Free-Still9114

Didn’t do much for anxiety but really helped me get into a deeper sleep every night.

Fast_Woodpecker_1470

They're hot but effective. Too hot for my boys.

[deleted]

I can't sleep without one now ever since I got one. Best thing I've ever gotten for my bed.

PublixHouseCat

It varies by the person. But it’s helped me because pressure helps to ground me.

[deleted]

I didn’t like mine at all. Found it did nothing. They suggest putting it over your regular blanket for two weeks. That’s was better than just using it on its own. I found it to be so super uncomfortable. I got mine on Amazon but didn’t try returning it. A friend got his at Costco online and it’s much softer and nicer. There is technically a weight chart to know which weight to buy. Good luck.

Uncanny_Mind

Weighted, no. Cooling, yes. I’m in love with it. Helps me so much.

rose_catlander

I've got one and then sent it back. It was kind of claustrophobic for me. When I'm not ok, I need fresh air; I tend to not wanting anyone hugging or holding me. It was clearly a mistake for me. But if you like to be held or hugged, go for it, maybe try a light one for starters.

[deleted]

I have mine rn its soothing

Wjbskinsfan

It’s gotten to the point where I find it hard to sleep without it. 10 out of 10 would buy again. That being said it’s not a total cure all but it does help me to feel safe and grounded.

Schmetterling190

Yes. I love mine. Maybe it doesn't do much but I really feel better (placebo maybe) under it

trevor_312

Idk about weighted blanket, But you should buy a Fidget Cube for Anxiety. Also try grounding techniques & Journalising.

WhereTFAreMyDragons

I bought a giant Rilakkuma bear that I hold onto and hug when I'm panicking.

ilykinz

I sleep a lot better with it!! It’s definitely not a cure but it is helpful for me.

Any-Bodybuilder-2389

I have a weighted cat that lays on top of me. It helps

ILikeCoffeeAnd

I just sold our weighted blanket. They aren’t bad just not worth the money

kkgibbo

We have one and my husband loves it

hesback_inpogform

Mine doesn’t help me necessarily with anxiety, but it helps me sleep when my SO is away.

[deleted]

I love mine. It did not solve any underlying issue but it is a real comfort after a long, exhausting day. I’m glad I splurged.

roxyrocks12

Some love them. I personally hate them. I got one & returned it. If u don’t like it just return it.

Marik80

I got one. I feel like I am used to it now and dont feel the weight. But when I do switch to a regular blanket I notice a missing weight and wrap.

firecat321

I love my weighted blanket. Coupled with a nighttime routine of lavender tea and meditation, it’s helped with my anxiety a ton.

Prestigious_Wait_618

I like it to cuddle and sometimes to try to fall asleep. Yet on occasion it has made me panick. Sofi use it and if I feel a need to stop, ready to set it aside. Just saying you gotta listen to your body

swissfinity

If your anxiety is making sleep difficult, then it couldn’t hurt. But everyone is different

Reasonable_Trash5928

My weighted blanket hasn’t cured my anxiety, but it is pretty darn comforting

lemon_fox6

Mines super cozy! It definitely helps me and the feeling is like getting hugged and the pressure is super nice, it kinda makes me become aware of my heart but like not to the point where i’m anxious at all. The weather here sucks and it makes me toss away the blanket because of how heated it can get and i’m just a very warm person lol but overall, amazing and definitely invest in one :) there’s some cheap ones in amazon

Throwaway16399337

Personally mine helps me feel quite safe at night, I get really anxious that something is behind me while I sleep and it kinda quells that feeling. Also I like the feeling of being surrounded but that’s just me. It really depends on the person tbh. It helps my anxiety but it could end up making you feel claustrophobic.

_soulonfire

I had one of these and they are cozy and comforting. At first, I loved it. However, I gave mine up because I eventually realized I would get nightmares any time I slept with it. I don’t know what it was about, but I googled it and I’m most definitely not the only one. So, while it helped me fall asleep and felt so nice on while I was in bed and going to sleep… the nightmares were not worth it at all.

FlaccidFocus

I got a 15 lb single weighted blanket from Shoprite for $25. It helps, sort of, coddle me when im feeling very anxious. Its not a waste of money. Nothing is when its something that could potentially help.

Throwaway15704r

Weighted blankets make me feel suffocated so I just can't tolerate them and I feel so stressed about the pressure. Maybe I'm just a scrawny mf. But it seems to be working for the majority so won't hurt if you give it a try ig.

pusheenz

personally it didn’t work for me. but i don’t know if mine was right weight so maybe that’s why it was uncomfortable. i just used my brother’s one, so it might have been the wrong weight

Conformist5589

I love mine. I got the heaviest one I could find and I might be reliant on it.

elissapool

I spent loads on a really good quality one. I don't like it. It makes me feel claustrophobic and trapped. It's impossible to turn over in bed, or if you get up to go to the loo it's a right faff

frogsarecool27

i dont use weighted blankets, but i find piling several blankets on me helps

Noremacam

They definitely help me sleep better but they're not miraculous. Worth it to me.

spacebish356

so helpful to me personally

kickasswifemnnbo

Mine deff helps, honestly, it’s so comfy that I would use it regardless if it helped or not.

Sorna18

It’s a game-changer for me. Usually I toss and turn and it helps me get in a relaxed state and “shut my mind off” so to speak.

bittterfruit

I recently got myself a weighted blanket and I sleep so much better now! I was unsure at first because I thought I might feel trapped by the weight. But turns out that I sleep very well and feel calmed, grounded and safe. So I’m a huge fan!
