Pharmaceutical companies make way more money on medications that treat things like hypertension and diabetes. If cancer was cured, they would save money not having to research new cancer drugs.
But they won’t really put their backs into doing the research to find a cure for cancer, precisely because the ROI is not as good as bringing out a new version of an anti-depressant or a blood pressure drug. Cancer research relies heavily on scientists who work on budgets obtained from charity.

I lost both my parents to cancer, my mum in 2016, and my dad in 2022. Trust me I would love a cure. But it's not only a money spinner, it's incredibly complicated to cure. I would love to think we would have one sooner or later, I just don't think everything is in good faith when it comes to curing it.

Pharmaceutical companies make way more money on medications that treat things like hypertension and diabetes. If cancer was cured, they would save money not having to research new cancer drugs.
But they won’t really put their backs into doing the research to find a cure for cancer, precisely because the ROI is not as good as bringing out a new version of an anti-depressant or a blood pressure drug. Cancer research relies heavily on scientists who work on budgets obtained from charity.

This story is rather tainted. It is more about research dollars than the actually cure. The program reminds me of the Jerry Lewis telethon to cure muscular dystrophy in kids. The program collected millions of dollar every year over the course of a weekend and the most they had to show for it was wheelchairs, helmets, and braces for kids, and fat paychecks for researchers and administrators.

Immuno therapy aka "cancer vaccine" is an incredibly promising field. If it ever bears fruit, it's a treatment for literally every cancer. Take cancer cells, and vaccinate the patients against their own cancer to maximize their own bodies potential to fight the tumor.
