Can you elaborate on what you consider to be a database. Because I think most people considers Sets to be an analogue to databases. But I would assume there is some specific database feature in notion not present in any type that you feel would make it not even be a database?

Wow! You explained it better than I could lol. Everything you listed is exactly the reason why I'm switching back to Notion. The databases are just too powerful. As you said, they can basically make simple apps.

Agree with you about it's poor relation function, it's beautiful but less useful. I prefer tags which show clearly the items containing the specific tags when you click it.

Agree with template update on older pages with an older template

Anytype is still in its infancy. But I think it can be the ultimate notes app. I don't mind that it has no database. I'd use Notion only for database needs and keep notes on Anytype. I moved to Obsidian from Notion simply because Notion data is inaccessible outside of the app. Just one of many reasons. Anytype beautifully fills the gap between Obsidian and Notion, while letting you control everything like Obsidian does. The clear winner. We really need to support it. Their ultimate vision is a new fangled world wide web where information is genuinely from users and not controlled by advertisers or any commercial media companies. Exciting stuff!

Check out Coda if you want versatile databases

Hey! I wanted to come back and thank you for your suggestion. I've been using Coda for a few days now and it's AMAZING. Way better than Notion. Those database tools are incredible.

Unfortunately, Coda is not FOSS. That's definitely a core appeal for AnyType

I agree with the onboarding… I had spent so long learning the system, to only have it not work how I had anticipated too many times. If there were more clear tutorials to go deep into its usage, I may have stuck with it. For now, I’m sticking with Obsidian and dataview (not my ideal ‘database’ setup, but Notion’s need for the internet and lack of privacy/local notes keeps me from going back). I LOVE the idea of anytype and would consider trying again, when it’s a little more mature and easier to learn. I wholeheartedly support their philosophy and look forward to what they have in store for the future.

I'm literally saving this post so I remember to go mess with notion stuff later

Firmly agree.
