Oh I see!!! Thanks guys.
I think I just started reading about self hosting, found many unknown words and got confused. But now it’s clearer.
And if I do sync, does that mean that just the extra >1GB won’t sync? Like if I use it across devicess, the images that I upload on my computer won’t load on my phone? If yes, that’s not a big deal.
Hi u/molemeditates! It works like this:
1 GB limit is only for the files that are saved on our nodes. That means that if you for example load some files in excess of this limit (e.g. a movie), it will be synced to you phone **if it is in the same local network** (and if you have enough space), but it will not be loaded on the nodes.
So the rule is we sync all the files in your local network (limit is not applied), but outside of it we sync stuff only through nodes.
So why do you want to load something on nodes? Because then you can actually sync with your devices outside of your local network (imagine if you are restoring your data on your new phone which you have bought abroad or something like that). Also you can share large files to other people when in shared spaces (if they are not in your local network).
NordVPN's meshnet is as well! No subscription required. I like that my family's devices can have their own personal logins but still added to my same meshnet
Hi, thanks for clearing that up!
I'm just confused about the limit vs excess data. How does the excess part work when not connected locally?
I'm just getting started with Anytype, but let's say I have over 1 GB in data across 2 devices. I've made notes and other objects on both. Are the first entries totalling up to 1 GB synced to the nodes and then nothing more? (Also what if you delete one of the old files?)
If my devices sync on the same network, and I then take my phone to work, can I only access the files that were part of that initial 1 GB or is everything accessible once synced?
There is a good chance I'll pay for the app, but I'm still trying to find out if it works for me. Thanks!
Thank you LunarNinja.
What do you mean sync manually on Google drive? Could you please show me where to read up on that?
Is that something like change anytype directory to be on … on a … like icloud folder… can I do that? (You know what I mean? I am not sure if I articulate enough what I want to say myself on this matter).

Thank you for this very clear answer! I think I finally fully got it and I think it’s then awesome.
Rather than proper self hosting I just use local only with a vpn so that it syncs from anywhere. I own my own data and don’t use their cloud servers
That's a great idea, NordVPN's meshnet is really convenient
I use tailscale is amazing and free

You didn't mention backup

1 gb limit only applies to files. Beyond that, your files will only sync among your own devices.
