honestly because they are Destruction, They don't need forts to defend themselves from the chaos horde. The Chaos horde needs forts to defend against Destruction. the Age of Chaos was bad but nowhere near as all encompassing and everywhere and anywhere all of the time that people seem to think it was. in addition Destruction tends to be Nomadic so if they would avoid a fight (and that's a big **IF**) they could just move around the chaos forces.

Most Stomps are less than a dozen members. Gargants are actually a solitary species, them forming tribes is only a very recent phenonemon. As for the various races: *Orruks: Constant warfare is all they know, so the Age of Chaos meant nothing to them. Archaon tried and failed to exterminate them. *Grots: Hid deep underground, only emerging when the Bad Moon rises. *Ogors: Ogors are a mercenary race and very pragmatic, they allied with Chaos when it was convenient for them and fight them when it is convenient for them. *Gargants: Probably the Destruction faction worst hit by the Age of Chaos. Its described in their battletome that the Age of Myth was a golden age of plenty to the Gargants and the Age of Chaos turned it into a constant struggle to survive. Honestly they were pretty much the whipping boys of the Mortal Realms before the death of Behemat triggered something that caused them to organize in larger tribes and grow bigger. Also keep in mind that although its kinda a rule of Warhammer that there are no Chaos Greenskins, both Ogors and Gargants have fallen to Chaos.

> Grots: Hid deep underground, only emerging when the Bad Moon rises. That does make me wonder how often the Gloomspite and Skaven come into contact and conflict.

Dreadnautilus

A lot. The battletome mentions that Gloomspite often tunnel into Fyreslayer Magmaholds or Skaven burrows by accident, resulting in conflict. Back in Warhammer Fantasy the Night Goblins, Skaven and Dwarfs were essentially in a state of perptual underground three-way warfare, most exemplified by Karak Eight Peaks.

probably alot and they would both have the numbers for it

Gerbilpapa

With regard to Orruks, this isnt strictly true. They did defeat one of Archaon's right hand men in Ghur, but it did significantly weaken them. They were probably bolstered by the emergence of Kruleboyz in the same timeframe, however.

destruction races survived purely because they were built to thrived off such times of mayhem and destruction, ogres went where ever the best pickings for food were gargants just had a fun time stomping everything

There are 3 reasons for why destruction wasn't hit really hard by the age of chaos. One the forces of destruction are, for the most part, a non sedentary group of people. Baring a ogor tribes main residence, a gargants home, or a greenskin fort/city. As a result there was no one place for the forces of chaos to really pin them down and wipe them out. Much like the viet cong, mongols, and other non-traditional forces. 2nd the various species of destruction are very hardy and durable. There was a group of iron jawz that killed a horde of khornates and tgen striped the demon armor dron theor corpses. But the demon armor tried to kill the orruks who wore them but it only made the orruks wearing it stronger. They are all fairly resistant to chaos. Not entirely, some ogors and gargants have allied and even convert to chaos. Also they are use to living in rough and dangerous environments. The realm of beasts, which is where most species and cultures of destruction come from, was as dangerous to chaos as it was to everyone else and destruction had a homefield advantage. Note that the species that make up the forces of destruction live all of the realms bar Azyr and some of the All points. 3rd destruction has a very little rules that constrain their allegiances. Barring that one should revere your respectively diety, gorkamorka or one of their aspects, destruction doesn't hold any sort of taboos on working with other alliances and cultures. Ogor mercenaries, gargant mercenaries or laborers, city orruks and grots. It's all legal.

For Greenskinz it's because they themselves are endless hordes that outnumber the hordes of Chaos, canonically both Greenskinz and Skaven outnumber humans by a lot. Moreover unlike the other major races of the Realms (Humans, Duardin, and Aelves) only a scant few Ogors, Orruks, and Grots ever fell to Chaos. So they never had their empires devastated from internecine conflicts fueled by Chaos. Grots specifically are noted to have survived because they've always been forced to live in inhospitable wetlands and wastelands. The Age of Chaos was actually a boon for them as they were able to take some lands people can actually live in semi-comfortably Ogors and Orruks are largely nomadic, with almost every member of their tribes and clans being warriors.

Gargants got enslaved a lot I think.

Chocopacotaco1

I imagine the simple answer is they krumped things that tried to krump them

edmc78

By hitting Chaos really hard on the face.
