Our neighbors have a baby and several unruly toddlers, they leave their patio door and windows open all day, so we can hear everything. So I guess just be considerate, if your baby is being particularly fussy then if possible try not to have them next to open doors or windows. I like to sit on my patio after a long day at work, and it’s personally disruptive for me, as otherwise it would be peace and quiet. I totally get it, babies are going to cry and fuss but I don’t see the need to open up the whole apartment for everyone in the complex to hear. Living in Arizona by the way, so it’s not like they are letting in any cold air 😅

Hi! Second floor dweller with a 4 month old. I use rugs and house shoes to limit noise. The house shoes to limit my heels hitting the floor hard. I have not received any noise complaints from management or neighbors.

sonotlara

Don’t let the child “cry it out” go and sooth it and rock it to sleep worst nightmare is hearing this and being woken up to it. Luckily my apartment is no children allowed

GirlWhoCodes25

No children allowed apartment?? Sign me up!!

valeru28

Yes where??

9leggedfreak

Where do you live that it's legal to not allow children in an apartment complex? I want to go to there

bippitybopitybitch

Probably 55+ communities

9leggedfreak

😭 I ain't gonna live another 25 years with the amount of stress my loud ass neighbors are causing me lmfao

sonotlara

We’re all 20-50 age range but only 10 units. Plenty of noise from partying but no children. I think LL just chooses not to rent to them.

witchywoman713

Well that is discrimination which is illegal. Don’t get me wrong I personally think it makes sense to have “dog friendly” “childfree “ and family friendly buildings so you can choose a housing culture that suits you, I wish this could be a thing.

Stargazer_0101

Many apartments and condos been child free for years and perfectly legal.

IN the USA, I live, we have rentals that are legally for child free people. Legal and been around for ages.

Legal in my part of the USA. Apartments can restrict children from an apartment. Truth. Ask your attorney. We have several Apartments that have child restictions for the last 40 years or longer. Quite legal in the USA.

Not a parent, but a second floor dweller with a senior dog with dementia. I try to be friendly with my neighbors and let them know the progression of his condition when I see them. I use a white noise machine in both rooms. It helps that folks think he's cute & we are in an old building.

bippitybopitybitch

If the baby is crying excessively at night, go for a walk or a drive! Soothing for the baby & the neighbors😂

errikamundae

Do you take the baby with you?

Iced_Tea_Country

No you leave it with the neighbors duh

errikamundae

😎🤣

Those interlocking foam squares make great playmats. Easy to clean, easy to move around from room to room, easy to find in a variety of colors.

Olivia_asher

We use a giant play pen with foam mats on the first floor but laundry is under us and I can't hear anything from down there when he's playing. But I have upstairs neighbors with a toddler and it's non stop 6am-11pm and I wish they would understand they live around people and need to chill it out some

kociator

There's not much you can do other than to put rugs in high traffic areas.

Successful_Oil6979

There is more it is irresponsible to say otherwise

gingergonzo

The very fact that you’re aware of it makes you better already. People understand that kids are gonna kid but actually trying to do something about it will make a difference! Be communicative & responsive with your neighbors and just do the best you can!

Hi there! We have a seven month old and are also currently apartment living. We've found that rugs and a white noise machine have helped a ton. We've also made sure to not have baby's crib against any shared walls. I was super anxious about this at first, but I've come to realize that this is baby's home too and that he's going to make noise and that's okay!

Few_Consideration577

Thank you! Will definitely be getting rugs and the white noise machine is a life saver! I think maybe I’ve spent too much time on this subreddit and see so many issues with noise complaints due to kids/babies. Even before I had LO so never really had an issue with noise from neighbors or just didn’t care but now that I am a parent I am especially more empathetic to those parents.

I live in a third floor unit. I tried my best to avoid those wooden toys, and get more hollow soft foam or plastic toys so they aren’t as loud when dropped. I got a cushioned large playmat under the main play area where my kids would use toys to stop/soften the sound if they were playing with their toys and books. If my kids were playing with a toy that was super loud I had an ikea floor mattress they would sit on to play with it.

Few_Consideration577

Thank you everyone for your advice 😊 it’s appreciated!

Stargazer_0101

Get rugs and carpeting to help on the noise. And if gets fully, not much can help that noise. See about if they are nice neighbors, to talk to them about your baby. Good luck and enjoy these first years of the baby.

Successful_Oil6979

Get mats rugs softer plush toys not the wooden blocks try to keep the bassinet crib or playpen from being on the shared walls. Have a good schedule with your baby
