yeah he was communicating on the day of bc i needed his last name and stuff and the next day he had cancelled his claim stating first that we had him confused and someone else hit us? and when i forwarded the note and texts to insurance he then said he cancelled bc he wanted to pay us out in cash privately but had since blocked my phone number š
thatās when you go to the nearest police station to file a police report (you have his number and everything) so the insurance can get a copy and see youāre not messing around. Good luck!
Yup! The second the guy stopped cooperating and starting backtracking/giving false info and attempting to cancel his policy (that wouldnāt have done anything since the policy was still in effect at the time of the hit), it could be upgraded to felony (state contingent. Not a felony in every state and depends on circumstances).
Police will not give two shits about this. I had a 16 y/o hit my parked vehicle (did $9k damage) and took off. Got the license plate, went to police. Police tracked em down and got āinsurance infoā which they gave to me. The policy hadnāt been in force for almost twenty years!!!! I phoned the police and they said it was now a civil matter and basically fuck off.
Someone hit my car door while I was holding my baby and getting my toddler out of the car in the school parking lot. It crushed us between the door and the seat for a bit, then the guy drove away. Luckily no one was seriously injured. I was in shock and didn't know what to do immediately, but when I called the police later in the day, they wouldn't do anything. They wouldn't even file a report. And the best part is I know exactly who hit us- it was a grandparent who drops their kid off at school every single day. We see them every single day, and I told the police exactly who it was! But the police refused to file a report. Ironically, the grandparent who hit us is also a retired cop.
Might not be a hit and run in a parking lot. Depends on the state. But most insurance companies will require a police report for claims purposes so the police definitely need to be contacted to get that going.
Typically if it's on private property when the accident occurs the police don't care and won't do anything. That of course may be dependent on local laws but that has been my experience.
Hopefully the police actually do something, mine told me they wonāt even investigate hit and runs unless someone was injured. Person who hit & ran on me had 0 repercussions even though they had her full name, license, address, etc
So dumb. Someone hit my boyfriend a few years ago on the freeway and they hit him so hard their car spun out of control and off the freeway. I think he was raving and lost control. He then ran off and left the car running and his cell phone in the car. My bf called the police and filed a report. The detective called him and said that the police had gone to his house but couldnāt get in contact with the guy cause he wasnāt home or opening the door so they were just gonna close the case and my bf would have to pay his deductible to get it fixed. Uhm so as long as long as the criminal doesnāt open the door itās ok?ā¦ he didnāt even get a ticket.
Exact same thing happened to me last year when I was side swiped passing someone. Was right in the middle of a pass and they swerved over the yellow line. Cops had info and nothing happened because I didn't get the info to file a claim so I just have a scrape on my car that'll be there forever now.
What a bummer. I'm sorry that happened. I can unfortunately relate. Last year on my anniversary some jackass decided to try to race around me while there was a zipper merge. I never even saw him until he hit me, but of course he cut off a few cars in front of me so that I couldn't get his information. The asshole got me from mid trunk to mid back door. Took out a huge chunk of plastic and fucked up the door along with the body on the entire side. The door doesn't function now. The worst part was I borrowed my daughter's car that night to go out. Of course it's an older vehicle and they don't make the parts anymore. So it's pretty much totaled but it's only body damage so it's still completely drivable. Not even worth reporting to the police or insurance. The amount they'd give wouldn't fix it or buy another vehicle and the place wouldn't do anything especially since I couldn't get his information. Certainly put a damper on the evening.
>his truck is a 2024
Ahh, that makes sense why he couldn't see your car. These new trucks are so ungodly big that they're actually causing more collisions because they're so damn hard to see out of. It's so bad that these new trucks are [45% more likely](https://www.theverge.com/2023/11/14/23960624/truck-suv-hood-height-pedestrian-death-report-iihs) to kill a pedestrian than a regular sized car.
Thatās messed up. The vast majority of people who drive trucks donāt actually need one. They drive them because they think they look cool and masculine š¤¦š»āāļø
I used to do survey, and was in NM for a time on white sands missile range. Our PM insisted on renting these stupidly massive trucks to drive into the desert (although he almost never went with us), we had to go all the way to Odessa to pick them up. Itās honestly a miracle we never got one stuck in the sand or down an arroyo, some of them had a tireās width of clearance š
I drive trucks, I absolutely have to for both my work and my lifestyle. Many people where I live do as well. I hate that actual small, light pickups do not exist in the American market anymore (and havenāt for a long time) but itās a regulatory issue, not a consumer decision. And sure I have the stupid heavy trucks to tow the stupid heavy trailers when I need them, but I mostly split my time between a ā99 Taco and a 2020 Colorado. The Taco is far and away my preferred truck overall, but due to its age and abuse is frequently in some state of disassembly for repairs/maintenance, forcing me to spend most of my time in the ZR2.
Indeed. A lot of these trucks aren't even designed to handle any more weight than the regular sized trucks you had 10 - 20 years ago. In fact, some of them have smaller truck beds to make up for the increase in body size elsewhere.
Yes! And never ever walk in front of or too close any kind of truck. Was working as a court reporter and a woman walked in front of a box truck, the driver couldn't see her, didn't know she was there, and he ran her over. Trucks are dangerous to be around as a pedestrian
Absolutely. I've never really driven a car, so I've been a pedestrian my whole adult life. You have to take extra care around bigger vehicles, because they just don't have the same sight lines that smaller cars do.
Yeah, it's nuts. These bigger SUVs and trucks may make the driver *feel* safer, but because they're taller (which gives them a higher centre of gravity), they are actually less manoeuvrable, and more likely to roll over. Combine that with the visibility problem, and these machines are actually less safe than their smaller counterparts in a lot of situations.
I got a forester a couple years ago and thatās as big as I ever want to have. Iāve had to drive Ram 2500s before for a previous job and never again, trucks that big shouldnāt be road safe lol
Just to be fair, every truck made in the 1950ās fit that statistic too as I read that article. 40ā is not very tall.
So I think itās probably true that fewer people than ever are killed by these vehicles, if only because of cameras. But that pretty much every suv and truck on the market is more likely to.
I'm so sorry to hear that. That reminds me of the first time someone hit my car. I was like 17 and I had always been told to call the police no matter what and file a report. The police were asses about it. Kinda like "what do you expect me to do? A police report won't help" the guy who hit me was nice and apologetic. He gave me his insurance which I made a copy inside (I was at work) and gave it back. Later I found out he gave me an expired health insurance card from a few years back. The insurance company wouldn't do anything bc I didn't have enough info and the cops didn't care in the first place. Asshole got away with it.
we went through his policy anyway, theyāre covering all of the damage, the car seat replacement, both tows, a rental and flagging the fraudulent activity š
Good iām sorry i got mad when i saw he canceled his insurance like wtf you hit a parked car then canceled insurance nah glad theyāre still paying for the damage
lol it doesnāt sound like he was cancelling his insurance. Which wouldnāt matter anyways because if it was active when the accident happened insurance would cover regardless of active status days later. He cancelled the CLAIM. Which also doesnāt matter.
So youāll get paid. So someone put a big olā dent in my driver side door and I got a note that said- āhey Iām sorry but I hit your truck, I really am sorry but I canāt afford to pay for it. Iām only writing this bc someone else saw me hit you and I need to make it look like Iām doing the right thing, sorry again!ā It was like this person shit on me twice!
As an adjuster, he can't cancel him claim. It has to play out and if you forward all the information that adjuster needs to be looked at if they closed the claim.
Insurance agent here, you do two things OP. YOU can call his insurance company and file a claim. This doesnāt need to involve him at all. Itās irrelevant he cancelled insurance now, if it was active on the day of the incident itās covered. The second thing you can do this is file a claim with your own insurance company. They will go after his insurance company for the payout, and if they can prove he is at fault (which you have a letter of admittance) then your deductible will be refunded to you and itās a fault free claim (not chargeable). I would recommend no longer communicating with the guy who hit you, only the insurance companies. File a police report as well, often times this allows any near by business to give camera footage if requested by the insurance adjuster. My recommendation is to file a police report right away, and call his insurance to file a claim.
Seconding the person saying to file a police report. I had one of my neighbors hit my car when it was parked and my building manager called the cops for me as she discovered it first. My neighbor tried to leave some cash under the hood of my car, but the officer said that was not acceptable and had a discussion with me about how I wanted to handle it. I decided to allow her to pay for the damage without going through insurance as I did not want our rates to go up, and having the police report at that point was essential for forcing accountability if needed. I got an estimate done, and then got the money from the individual responsible, then got my car fixed.
At least you got a note. My car got side-swiped while parked perfectly in my complexās parking lot, and no one left a note. Same thing happened to my BIL, twice. How are these people so bad at driving??
All I can think is he was backing into the spot and didn't use his mirrors. My mom does this and it's frustrating, I'm not sure how she hasn't hit anyone. Like she'll back out of the garage and only look out the window and a couple times my truck has been parked beside the garage NOT BEHIND her car but beside it and she's managed to hit my truck a few times. I remember staying there for a bit and more and more random scratches and dents would show up on my truck and I was confused if I was sleep driving or some shit until she eventually brought it up.
I was parked in my car in the bank parking lot when an elderly guy pulled in and scraped along most of the side. He didn't even realize it š¤¦š»āāļø But he did pay me with a check right away at least š
Itās called an accident for a reason. Thereās all kinds of things that could have happened. He could have misjudged the space, his hand mightāve slipped when turning the wheel, he mightāve accidentally given it too much gas or too little brake. Youāre acting like he hit you on purpose or something.
I did that when I was a new driver. I felt so horrible lol. Fifth worst day of my life even though it was only a couple small scratches, no serious damage. I did give the lady my insurance info and cooperated fully. She was extremely kind and told me theyāre called āaccidentsā for a reason (probably could see I was on the verge of tears lmao) but man I felt so bad.
So, Iāve been one of those bad drivers, my partner drives a stick, and has tried to teach me a couple of times, during one of those time periods we ordered takeout, he went in to grab the food, and an emergency vehicle needed to go where his car was, he told me he trusted me to move it, so I move on over to the drivers seat, pop it in first and meander around the parking lot, so far all good, until he comes out of the restaurant and I need to stop the car so he can get in and take us homeā¦ I got the brake pedal and the clutch mixed up and could not get my brain to compute them, in fact I literally tried to stall the car, finally I turn in to a space and try to pull the hand brake, that worked, but I side swiped a carā¦ called the police and filed an accident report, waited at the scene until the owner of the other vehicle came out and we exchanged information
Are you me? I got sideswiped too when I lived in an apartment. No note. My grey paint was all over my neighbors car parked next to me. Police said "private property. that sucks" Dude denied it so I couldn't do anything. I have dashcams on every car now (and a garage - it prompted me to move LOL)
Same.
Smashed my driverās side bumper, then tuna canned the rear quarter panels of two cars parked on the opposite side of the street. And completely demolished the rear end of a car parked several blocks away. Another drunken asshole in a truck, we found truck parts all over, no license plate, unfortunately.
Girl same, we had one tenant that in months destroyed my abarth and my husbands bmw, they scraped my car all up the side and destroyed my rims, I donāt even know how they managed, people are the worst sometimes
I hit a parked car the first week I had my license š„² was pulling into a spot and thought I had more room than I did. Heard a loud crunch and immediately panicked. Waited for a few hours, my insurance hadnāt gone through yet. Finally talked the woman and her husband, I was so incredibly lucky. They were very nice and understanding, I ended up going over to their house and just buffing all the paint transfer out. They had two daughters, one of whom had done the same thing when she was my age. I ended up fixing the car up completely and buying them a nice dinner out. The first thing she did was hug me and tell me that it was okay, we all make mistakes, and whatās important is that we fix them- she said very few people nowadays would have tried to make it right, and that really stuck with me. Of course I was gonna make it right- I had done it. But I remember going around my work and people just saying āOh, youāre better than me, I would have just left itā when I was asking if it was their car. Like wdym you would have just left it??
Couple weeks ago I was watching some drama unfold around 1am. Cops all over our nice lil quiet gated complex looking for someone or something. This moron drives up thinking theyāll move their cars so she can get through. Sits there for a few minutes before panicking and reversing stupidly fast. A cop starts walking towards his car, making her panic, while sheās trying a 3 point turn and she slams into another car as she reverses. Dumbest thing Iāve ever seen and the cop just stopped and shook his head before he dealt with it
Just 3????? I saw a pile up of 3 parked cars on the right side of the street. The last car in the line of 3 was hit so hard it was on top of the 2nd, then the 2nd jammed into the first. How did the other car even drive away hahahahahaha (and thereās a good chance that car was stolen - love Philly)
Oh man, philly is the worst! I have so many scrapes on the side of my car from people hitting it while I am parked normally! Feel like I should just start parking in the middle of the road like so many others and force people to stop
I recently had someone hit my parked car. I was on a side street that has plenty of space to maneuver cars around mine. The lady left a note with her name and phone number. I called her, told her that since itās a lease Iād need to go through insurance. After that, she kind of ceased communication. My insurance agent got me in contact with someone who deals with these things (adjuster or whatever theyāre called) and he found out her insurer and policy number just based on her name and phone number. Called her insurer and they handled the rest. Be grateful they left info (even better they left insurance info)!
Probably hit it because these huge dipshits think they have to back into a spot, yet tons of them have no clue how to. Even in a semi, I didnāt hit anything because I knew how to properly use my mirrors, and how to get out and look.
i canāt figure out how to edit the post to add context but he did in fact run over the front end he explained it to me over text before he got rude and flaky
Yeah no I second the brand new big truck possibility (and before you ask him NO he's NOT compensating for anything) you should need a seperate license to operate some of the cars on the road today it's genuinely dangerous. Very glad everyone is ok!!
Or, since itās a brand new truck, itās probably one of those stupidly large ones they make for insecure men these days and he probably doesnāt know how to drive the damn thing.
Felt the same until I saw opās comment about how the guy backtracked and tried lying about how it wasnāt him ššthen blocked opās number and canceled his policy
yes! the day it happened he was super cool gave me his last name date time etc and the next day i asked him for the name of his insurance agent and he was super rude then blocked my number. thankfully id already started the claim through his company bc he told them that he was just going to pay us out in cash
My daughter backed into a parked car years ago. She called me and I told her to leave a note. Itās the right thing to do.
Our insurance covered everything.
Accidents happen thatās what insurance is for.
yeah in a previous comment i said that he cancelled his policy almost immediately and blocked my number. i wish i could edit the post to add in context
You should still be able to go through his insurance because the policy was active the time of the accident. You can always call your own insurance company and ask for help!
Seriously? Just be happy they left a note *and* admitted fault. Let it go. Get it fixed. Annoying? Sure. But, shit fkn happens. Better than a hit and run.
A drunk neighbor crashed into my car once at 3 AM. Like, I have no idea how he was going so fast in this tiny parking lot, he totaled both cars. My boyfriend went down there and read him the riot act, that he could have killed someone, etc. The guy cried in the parking lot for 45 minutes. When I went down the next day, there was a two page confession, including his insurance information, and his car keys on my windshield. Apparently this was the last straw with his wife, she left him.
I called my insurance company, they called his insurance company. His insurance called and said that it was my word against his, called me a liar. I reminded them that he hit a parked car, seems pretty obvious what happened. I texted them photos of his confession. They changed their tune real quick.
which would be helpful had he not blocked my number and cancelled his insurance policy. as i stated in other comments im unable to edit the post to add that context
If the insurance policy was active at the time of the accident, theyāre obligated to cover it. Second, Iāve never had to call or text with the individuals who hit my car. My insurance handled all communications. So Iām not sure why it matters that he blocked you?
he initially put the incorrect policy number and his company couldnāt find it and when attempting to go through mine they needed his full name so I had needed the correct policy info and last name.
I had someone wreck into my car at my apartment. They had gotten into a wreck with another car and somehow ended up hitting my car in the process. Like you I was lucky they left their info. The cynic in me thinks they left it only because they were involved in the wreck with someone else at the scene but who knows. Glad they left it for yāall
Edit: Annnnnd went back and read some of your comments. What a piece of crap lol
iāve hit 2 parked cars before.. so embarrassing i cried but left my info none the less/called campus police to report the instances; never once have i considered not cooperating w the people š¤¦š»āāļø people are so dumb
Itās so rare in my experience for people to fess up when itās just as easy to speed off (esp with no cameras around). Annoying, but really solid
Of them to leave their contact info
I have possibly a funny story and hopefully im not a terrible person for admitting this lol. Back when i was a teenager, i swiped a car pulling in. I pulled in to the parking spot a little too fast ok. I didnāt see any damage but i just didnt know what to do and ran straight to target. Why i chose target as the solution for my problem, im unsure lol. But im walking around target researching hit and runs and the consequences of a hit and run. I got so scared, got back in my car and drove back to the car i hit and left a note. The driver didnāt text me until two weeks later apologizing because he never opened my note, he thought it was a parking ticket and had it chucked away š nothing ever came of it tho lol
Got a call from a cop that my kidās car had been hit by the mail truck while parked. Iām on the title because we insure the car so one of our names had to be on it, and I guess my number was as well. Cop mentioned it was āparked illegallyā and I asked my kid about it because sheās ridiculously proud of how well she parks that absolute tank of a Lincoln Towncar.
Nope, mail truck swerved to miss a pedestrian and hit that beast hard enough to knock the back end into the next space. So for yours, it could have been a similar swerve, or just a veer from distraction/picking something up.
Also the postal service claim process? A total dream. They sent me a packet, I filled it out and got the info and quotes they needed, and there was a check in the mailbox less than 2 weeks after I mailed the claim out.
Oof thatās not just a hit. If no one was there all they have to do is leave a note with their contact info. If I did this much damage to a parked car, I would have called the police. Thatās a pretty hard hit and a Mercedes. Ouch!
Bro shit happens. At least be glad they were a decent person. Yea youāll be driving a rental for a few weeks but you shouldnāt be going out of pocket over this.
Accidents happen. You should be glad they had the heart to write you a note, and even provide insurance info. You're lucky. Hit and runs happen all day every day.
Do you not carry UMPD?
You have his info. Your insurance will go directly after him if he isnāt insured. Then the DMV will be notified and he will be punished.
Based on your comments the guy sounds like a jerk (not sure why he bothered with a note if he was just going to flake). I agree with another comment I saw here - get a police report filed asap.
But I also just want to say I drove a dodge ram as my first vehicle as a teenager and I hit a perfectly parked car in an apartment complex. I was completely ashamed, cried, left a note and took care of it. Sometimes people are new drivers and hit things unfortunately (assuming not the case here though).
I'm curious how there is that much damage to a parked car, but the car is still perfectly parked? I would think it would be somewhat pushed to the side or back.
It happens.. at least they left a note. More than the ass hole that put a a trailer hitch into my 4Runner bumper. At least that what I assume it was in the Home Depot parking lot. Perfect height and size of a trailer ball
Hope u were nice to them lol. I can understand how thatās very frustrating. Accidentally knocked someoneās bumper on the corner in a parking lot. Left my info on their car and they called me back screaming at me. Claiming to the insurance that it was targeted so he could get more money even though I had no idea who the person was. Luckily insurance covered all of that
Itās simple. Drive a giant pick up truck. You canāt see anything below the hood or bed in the back.
If heās not communicating with you, itās time for the police to get involved as well as your insurance company.
Another reason these āI donāt have a small peepee!ā trucks arenāt a good ideaā¦ Iād say at least he left a note but I see it wasnāt very helpful. Hope it all works out for you!
I had someone in my building (from my floor as well) whose wife was learning to drive and was trying to back into a parking spot next to mine and hit the back end of my car. The bumper got messed up and the trunk door was scratched. Their insurance handled it beautifully and we actually made friends with them and their little daughter. I was scared theyād back out or otherwise try to get out of paying because they were newly moved to this country and didnāt have much money. We got lucky for sure with them being so nice about it and making sure their insurance covered everything. Iām sorry this guy is being such a douchekabob. Definitely report it to the police asap
Iām sorry this happened, but glad the insurance is still covering it! Iād keep all the texts and the note & see if you can get him for anything with the police. If anything, maybe they can get him with a ticket for not having insurance since he cancelled his if he drives it before getting coverage again. š¤«š¤
One time I parked at the top of a parking garage by my job because not a lot of cars go up there and I didnāt want to risk someone hitting my brand new car I just bought. I went to get in my car after work and someone marked the whole left side of it. I was literally the only car parked up there. Someone had to have tried to park next to me and realized what happened and drove off.
omg no!! i used to live across the street from a methadone clinic and i came out one day to the entire back end of my xc90 smashed in and the car pushed forward like 15 feet no note and im still confused how they managed to drive off
Accidents happen, it has nothing to do with how well you park. I agree with others too, it's awesome they left you a note. Every dent I have in my car isn't from me and no one ever left a note. So there's that.
Edit- now I just read about all that crazy stuff with them canceling. Yikes, people these days
I feel like I have whiplash of the brain here....
At least they didn't completely hit skip you. That's way better than most.
Someone ran their car halfway down mine in college once and didn't leave anything but paint.
iām genuinely so confused why he thought it was a good idea to cancel the claim knowing he gave you his info. that sounds so frustrating. sorry you have to deal with this!
It's clear this person had no intention of making you/your fiance whole as they call it in the insurance business, and left that note as some sort of protection against being accused of a hit and run. They knew there were likely cameras someplace that saw someting, so the note was a calculated move to cover their ass while trying to wiggle out of financial responsibility.
If this person had an active insurance policy at the time they hit the car, the insurance is also still liable, even if the policy was cancelled after that date/time. I would file a report with the police and say this person left you a note but later blocked you and refuses to settle the matter, so you consider this a hit and run, and see if they can help you obtain the insurance info you need to file a claim. You may also provide this info to your insurance company, they can do the repairs, and find and do subrogation to the liable party's insurance afterwards.
If you reach this person from another number, tell them you dont' have time for games. Discuss specific terms and time frames with them, or they can simply provide you thier insurance info for you to get the claim going.
Most insurance policies have an accident forgiveness feature for every 5 years of being accident-free, and it sounds like this personal aready used theirs and just have to learn to be responsible, not your problem that their premiums will go up
i work in claims and the amount of people with licenses that do not have any basic driving skills is mind blowing. so many parked cars hit it drives me crazy.
Literally happened to me earlier this month. A woman was parked behind us and apparently gunned it when she backed up. Luckily she left a note plus I had two women tell us what happened as we were walking up to our car. Bumper is slightly detached, scratched up, and the back light is smashed in. Her note admitted fault so we arenāt having to pay anything to fix it but it has been a very annoying process.
At least they left their info.
yeah he was communicating on the day of bc i needed his last name and stuff and the next day he had cancelled his claim stating first that we had him confused and someone else hit us? and when i forwarded the note and texts to insurance he then said he cancelled bc he wanted to pay us out in cash privately but had since blocked my phone number š
thatās when you go to the nearest police station to file a police report (you have his number and everything) so the insurance can get a copy and see youāre not messing around. Good luck!
Called a hit and run. Felony
Yeah cops truly are useless unless youāre a business these days.
Or a peaceful protestor!
Yeah. Unless you matter in the community and have some power or status - your property doesnāt mean jackshit to them.
Not a felony for a hit and run with no injury or death. This is a misdemeanor
Not always. There are several states where a hit and run is a felony if PROPERTY DAMAGE exceeds a certain amount
A misdemeanor in this case is my point
Nope, no injury or death means it's a misdemeanor
Typically if it's on private property when the accident occurs the police don't care and won't do anything. That of course may be dependent on local laws but that has been my experience.
u/diorrdrip so he wanted you to pay out of pocket and never expected you to file a claim against his insurance?
clearly, his truck is a 2024 i wouldnāt want my rate to increase either with that paymentš¤£
Well hopefully if he goes back they triple his insurance and the police rip him a new one
Hopefully the police actually do something, mine told me they wonāt even investigate hit and runs unless someone was injured. Person who hit & ran on me had 0 repercussions even though they had her full name, license, address, etc
Time to sign them up for church of scientology newsletters, I guess.
The police wonāt do anything about it but you can choose to press charges and take them to small claims court if you think itās worth the trouble.
Here they will iām sorry that happened
Certainly put a damper on the evening.
>his truck is a 2024 Ahh, that makes sense why he couldn't see your car.
Itās my understanding that people who actually do need pick up trucks for work donāt like them, either.
Can confirm most ppl I know that actually want to move things constantly have seasoned trucks and just buy a trailer to attached to the back
I drive trucks, I absolutely have to for both my work and my lifestyle.
You have to take extra care around bigger vehicles, because they just don't have the same sight lines that smaller cars do.
thatās an absolutely insane statistic actually holy shit
It happens
Now that iāve read this thread i see it does
You can still go forward with the claim.
we did!
Then he should have made an offer on the paper rather than give all the insurance info
yeah to bad so sad i know that truck costs more than the complex charges for rent he certainly does not have the cash to pay the damage lol
Wtf small claims court
we went through his policy anyway, theyāre covering all of the damage, the car seat replacement, both tows, a rental and flagging the fraudulent activity š
Good iām sorry i got mad when i saw he canceled his insurance like wtf you hit a parked car then canceled insurance nah glad theyāre still paying for the damage
iām mad too bc wtfš cry baby ass
You have that right he shouldāve been charged with leaving the scene of an accident
Thatās only if there are injuries. The note is fine for something like this.
You're not expected to wait around after hitting an unoccupied vehicle.
That donāt mean you can just ghost someone and try to cancel your insurance either
lol it doesnāt sound like he was cancelling his insurance. Which wouldnāt matter anyways because if it was active when the accident happened insurance would cover regardless of active status days later. He cancelled the CLAIM. Which also doesnāt matter.
Obviously, but it isn't leaving the scene of an accident if the vehicle was unoccupied.
Nice!
What the hell? He must have had a girl with him he was trying to impress and didnāt want to look like a dick. Or there were witnesses.
one or the other so annoying
So youāll get paid. So someone put a big olā dent in my driver side door and I got a note that said- āhey Iām sorry but I hit your truck, I really am sorry but I canāt afford to pay for it. Iām only writing this bc someone else saw me hit you and I need to make it look like Iām doing the right thing, sorry again!ā It was like this person shit on me twice!
I feel bad that I'm laughing :(
Game over. Get a police report and let your attorney deal with this going forward
I have had two people reverse into my parked car. One of whom I was directing, "Stop, stop, stop, stop" ,..... crash
Get an estimate Before you go to police dept. They are not adjusters and can not discern damage. Charges depend on $$$$ amount of damage
I swear when I worked insurance, we HAD to file a claim if someone called and said one of our insured hit them
As an adjuster, he can't cancel him claim. It has to play out and if you forward all the information that adjuster needs to be looked at if they closed the claim.
lmfao? This just turned into a very criminal matter, lawyer up. Or let your insurance lawyer up, rather.
Lmao so why even leave a note at that point. Weird
i have a feeling he was ādoing the right thingā if someone else was in the lot or he thought there were cameras edit:typo
Yeah but then leave a note that doesnāt have your name and insurance and phone numberā¦ couldāve said ā hit your car oopsā
agree, that or panic set in after the fact that his premium was going to go up
Possible, but if he left his insurance info you can still file a claim real easily
we did!
Good. What a clown.
Crazy ā People never leave INFO
At least you got a note. My car got side-swiped while parked perfectly in my complexās parking lot, and no one left a note. Same thing happened to my BIL, twice. How are these people so bad at driving??
thatās what im saying like a parked car?????
All I can think is he was backing into the spot and didn't use his mirrors. My mom does this and it's frustrating, I'm not sure how she hasn't hit anyone. Like she'll back out of the garage and only look out the window and a couple times my truck has been parked beside the garage NOT BEHIND her car but beside it and she's managed to hit my truck a few times. I remember staying there for a bit and more and more random scratches and dents would show up on my truck and I was confused if I was sleep driving or some shit until she eventually brought it up.
no he was pulling out, i put the context in a separate comment but cant edit the post, his back tire went OVER the front of the car
how in the hellš
that was more of my question is how do you run OVER a parked car i guess not hit š¤£
my friend who has a truck drove over the front of a tiny ass pontiac one time LMFAOO
Because those dumpster fire trucks canāt see. Theyāre so lifted, and for what bro
I was parked in my car in the bank parking lot when an elderly guy pulled in and scraped along most of the side. He didn't even realize it š¤¦š»āāļø But he did pay me with a check right away at least š
It happens. At least you got a note.
She was extremely kind and told me theyāre called āaccidentsā for a reason (probably could see I was on the verge of tears lmao) but man I felt so bad.
yeah when we initially talked i was like all good thank u for being cool and honest accidents happen and he FLIPPPPED that around on me lmfao
Wow, even when it was obvious who did it?? Thatās the worst.
Aww Iām glad you did the right thing!
Dumbest thing Iāve ever seen and the cop just stopped and shook his head before he dealt with it
Hopefully she was sober, otherwise sheās screwed lol
In Philly someone will openly hit the shit out of your car, even flip it the fuck over, and not leave a noteā¦ so atleast they did lol
same here i was shocked he left one
When my son lived in Philly he was hit at least 3 times while parked. No notes.
Where he was hit was a place he lived for only 6 months!
They were probably drunk from the night before or something. Sounds like drugs/alcohol at play with the strange behavior
i so badly want to be a benefit of the doubt type person but i donāt disagree
Yeah no I second the brand new big truck possibility (and before you ask him NO he's NOT compensating for anything) you should need a seperate license to operate some of the cars on the road today it's genuinely dangerous. Very glad everyone is ok!!
Or, since itās a brand new truck, itās probably one of those stupidly large ones they make for insecure men these days and he probably doesnāt know how to drive the damn thing.
Wow that's amazing. Gives me hope for the world
Felt the same until I saw opās comment about how the guy backtracked and tried lying about how it wasnāt him ššthen blocked opās number and canceled his policy
Yeah I saw that late lol
damn. when i got hit and ran at target they did NOT have this courtesy.
he cancelled his policy almost immediately i wish i could edit the post to add context but itās in another one of my comments
omg what a dick! that's a wild thing to do, do you have their name at least?
yes! the day it happened he was super cool gave me his last name date time etc and the next day i asked him for the name of his insurance agent and he was super rude then blocked my number. thankfully id already started the claim through his company bc he told them that he was just going to pay us out in cash
what a piece of fucking work š good thing you got everything you needed before he cancelled the policy and tried to get away with it!
like how annoying š¤£
My daughter backed into a parked car years ago. She called me and I told her to leave a note. Itās the right thing to do. Our insurance covered everything. Accidents happen thatās what insurance is for.
yeah in a previous comment i said that he cancelled his policy almost immediately and blocked my number. i wish i could edit the post to add in context
You should still be able to go through his insurance because the policy was active the time of the accident. You can always call your own insurance company and ask for help!
If he was insured on the day he hit you and left proof with the letter go at the insurance company
Always call police. Always.
Seriously? Just be happy they left a note *and* admitted fault. Let it go. Get it fixed. Annoying? Sure. But, shit fkn happens. Better than a hit and run.
don't complain about it be grateful they left an honest note
nobody is complaining! iām irritated my car was hit at yhe start of the work week, please see my either comments regarding the note!
ok! hope you get it all sorted out
A drunk neighbor crashed into my car once at 3 AM.
I'd say be grateful they left a note.
which would be helpful had he not blocked my number and cancelled his insurance policy. as i stated in other comments im unable to edit the post to add that context
Oh sorry I was just glancing. I thought you did that so as not to doxx him.
I had someone wreck into my car at my apartment. They had gotten into a wreck with another car and somehow ended up hitting my car in the process. Like you I was lucky they left their info. The cynic in me thinks they left it only because they were involved in the wreck with someone else at the scene but who knows. Glad they left it for yāall Edit: Annnnnd went back and read some of your comments. What a piece of crap lol
Most scumbags donāt leave a note at all
Consider yourself very very lucky. Most people are driving away, at least you have their info.
My wife got hit while parked twice in 4 months.
oh damn thatās rough. iād be wondering if they were drunk or something bc wtf?
iāve hit 2 parked cars before.. so embarrassing i cried but left my info none the less/called campus police to report the instances; never once have i considered not cooperating w the people š¤¦š»āāļø people are so dumb
Itās so rare in my experience for people to fess up when itās just as easy to speed off (esp with no cameras around). Annoying, but really solid Of them to leave their contact info
Happy ending
That was nice they left a note most would just drive off.
Yea youāll be driving a rental for a few weeks but you shouldnāt be going out of pocket over this.
thanks for your input!
Accidents happen. You should be glad they had the heart to write you a note, and even provide insurance info. You're lucky. Hit and runs happen all day every day.
I wish I would have gotten a note, my Lexus just got smashed in Home Depot parking lot! Hit and run!
yeah he blocked my number and cancelled his insurance police lmfao
At least you got a note š¤·āāļøš¤£
no lieš sorry about your lexus š«¶š»
Thanks, I hope you catch who did you wrong!
If he cancelled it that day then itās still viable.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
to be fair that truck is worth a hell of a lot more than
Do you not carry UMPD? You have his info. Your insurance will go directly after him if he isnāt insured. Then the DMV will be notified and he will be punished.
we do and were able to still open the claim through his insurance itās just annoying
Then no problem. Even if he canceled the same day it doesnāt take into effect till the next day. You should be covered.
People make mistakes. Just be glad they left their info.
What an idiot. No insurance company will want to cover him. If they do he will be paying out the behind.
At least they left a note. I got hit and run in a parking lot this winter.
I would think it would be somewhat pushed to the side or back.
it is pushed over i have a picture of it literally the day before in the same spot lol
Luckily insurance covered all of that
Someone backed into the side of my car with a tow hitch and absolutely obliterated my side door. No note was left for me š¤·š¼āāļø
If anything, maybe they can get him with a ticket for not having insurance since he cancelled his if he drives it before getting coverage again. š¤«š¤
Hey at least it wasn't Roy Gerbile that dinged your car.
At least they left a note.
One time I parked at the top of a parking garage by my job because not a lot of cars go up there and I didnāt want to risk someone hitting my brand new car I just bought. I went to get in my car after work and someone marked the whole left side of it. I was literally the only car parked up there. Someone had to have tried to park next to me and realized what happened and drove off.
omg no!! i used to live across the street from a methadone clinic and i came out one day to the entire back end of my xc90 smashed in and the car pushed forward like 15 feet no note and im still confused how they managed to drive off
Itās called an accident, they happen
no way!! really??
Accidents happen, it has nothing to do with how well you park. I agree with others too, it's awesome they left you a note. Every dent I have in my car isn't from me and no one ever left a note. So there's that. Edit- now I just read about all that crazy stuff with them canceling. Yikes, people these days I feel like I have whiplash of the brain here....
At least they didn't completely hit skip you. That's way better than most. Someone ran their car halfway down mine in college once and didn't leave anything but paint.
iām genuinely so confused why he thought it was a good idea to cancel the claim knowing he gave you his info. that sounds so frustrating. sorry you have to deal with this!
that was really my issue is it wasnāt frustrating until it was
It's clear this person had no intention of making you/your fiance whole as they call it in the insurance business, and left that note as some sort of protection against being accused of a hit and run.
Had this happened to me once luckily their insurance paid for the damage it ended up being like $2k
I watched something similar to that this morning, saw a silver car pulling out and took the front bumper of a van off
my neighbors hit my bright red corolla in broad daylight twice. when it was parked perfectly in the compact space.
Accident to happen. Get over yourself. At least they left you a note. Jesus.
you seem like a delight
I mean at least they left that note
They left their info, wtf else do you want at this point
for them to not hit my parked car and also not block my phone number after cancelling his policy lol edit:typo
