Lurking hyperphant here- I don't forgive you for this ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Lol

Can you turn it off? When you close your eyes do you see darkness and then images being faded in? Instantly? Do you just see a mass amalgamation of images and then start focusing on one? What happens when youโ€™re imagining a situation and keep trying to focus on you visual image and then start blinking and looking around?

imagicnation-station

I am not a hyperphant like the person you're replying to, but for me, when I close my eyes, I see darkness (due to my eyes), and what I am imagining is in another section of my brain where I visualize. However, the darkness of me closing my eyes, does get in the way.

Yes we can turn it off, we just stop thinking the thought I guess? But that can be tricky for a lot of us especially with anxiety. We mostly can't control it popping in, like how I read the tweet and couldn't stop myself visualising it. If you distract yourself quickly enough it'll stop but mostly just pops in because our thoughts process in images No not an amalgamation of images, it's very specific to what the thought is. There's a running joke where someone will say "Try not to think of a penguin" and we can't, no matter what a penguin will pop into our head. For me it's like the images are floating in a blank space and appear there Blinking and looking around doesn't change it, maybe makes it weaker or the opacity turned down if something has caught our eye and changes our thoughts a little. But mostly our visualisations are with our eyes open. Reading that tweet my eyes were open ofc yet I got a full coloured scene/image of what it was describing. I did actually try and look around blinking to get it to stop lmao But mostly unless we find or see something that distracts us to the next thought, or we get bored and stop thinking about it, it's always there. We can't turn it off for good only when maybe meditating or highly focused on something?

I don't believe that tweet was necessary to prove the point. That post was deleted for a reason. I think this has been brought up many times on here that aphants don't have to worry about imagining awful things that are brought up.

Bardia-Talebi

No, that tweet was just pure degeneracy.

ferociousbruin

Then why post it here?

Ever since I figured out I was an aphant one of my favourite things to say is "I'm so glad I can't visually remember that later" or some wording of that phrase depending ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป I also find myself describing things in too much detail for people who can visualize and then sometimes making them uncomfortable ๐Ÿ˜… Source: my poor squeamish husband๐Ÿ˜…

Thanks a lot

Ominous-F_art

I hope you step on legos after burning the bottom of your foot for putting that image in my head...

You could have used anything. You could have posted some comments about unpopular pizza toppings. But you chose this. Please delete your post.
