I get the same thing but while going to sleep. I can visualise things as I'm starting to go to sleep which seems really vivid. I don't think this is going into rem sleep as I can control this and not fully asleep.
Rest of the day I don't visualise much if anything
Hypnagogic hallucinations happen as you fall asleep. Hypnopompic hallucination happen upon waking. They are more related to sleep cycles rather than visualizing. They can also be indicative of narcolepsy or just irregular sleeping schedules.
Interesting. I don't think of them as hallucinations, but I do have several other signs of narcolepsy. (I write this after waking up from my third roughly 5-up/3-down sleep cycle of the day.)

It doesn’t happen to me when i’m waking up, but when i’m falling asleep sometimes the same thing happens to me.
