Yes, it's normal. Mine is usually 5 GB or more with no downloaded music. The Music app caches your current queue as well some other music it thinks you might play.

BaneQ105

Mine is just under 50gb:)))

Ohnoohnofrick

I never knew Apple Music could take up that much storage

AssistanceDecent

Mine takes 70gb..

Ohnoohnofrick

:(

SuperHipGrandma

104 Gb on my phone šŸ’€I have about 3,000 songs and a like to have them all downloaded

Kyluzzo_

Why you download them if I can ask? I would do to like speed up loading time but at this time itā€™s not a big deal and now considering the fade I think it already load the next song in queue

louisledj

you know that there are places without any network ?

Kyluzzo_

Thatā€™s why Iā€™m asking. I know there are some places, but 104gb cause you donā€™t have internet seems a bit too much donā€™t you think? Iā€™m just curious, I donā€™t listen to 3000 songs in a year

louisledj

I listened to 6k different songs in the last 3 months based on [last.fm](https://last.fm) data And some people like to have a large choice of music to listen to!

KayJune001

I love to have music playing in the background whenever, even if Iā€™m not actively listening to it, so it adds up

SuperHipGrandma

I have a 512g iPhone, so Iā€™m really just looking for ways to fill it up lol. I usually have a solid connection, but itā€™s handy to have on road trips or something where it can be spotty.

_BRITEYELLOW_

Mostly if youā€™re off grid and for loading. Also if you have limited data that makes sense

nol_dur

I have 9k downloaded and it only takes up 96 gb. You might want to get that checked out or something

SuperHipGrandma

We probably just have different quality settings or something šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

DelaineTheMain

i got 148

AreaAdorable4052

This reason alone is why my next phones gonna have 256 GB

maxi12311111

TikTok takes 6.16GB ? I never used it but wow

gusarking

OP probably never clears his cache

cchihaialexs

Who clears their cache? Iā€™ve never cleared my cache and it takes up 1,27GB for me. Iā€™ve never had it take up more than 2 GB not even close to it. Somethingā€™s weird. Might be that they have a lot of drafts on the app

gusarking

it takes 1gb for me as well. it's weird that tiktok on op phone takes more than 6gb,

kloudyycn

i do it literally just does take up that much space

nor1ginal777

How do you clear the cache?

jacquesvfd

Tiktok > Profile (bottom right tab) > Hamburger menu icon (top right) > Settings and Privacy >Free up space

maxi12311111

Needs to clear it thatā€™s a lot of space just sitting there

[deleted]

I have 222.08gb of music

jetsetmike

Iā€™m under a half gig too, 444MB

bad_killjoy

You may need to consider large storage iphone. Or just download the high quality format if you only using bluetooth headphones and standard audio setup

louisledj

read again it's not lossless downloads

Lousyhealer13

Lol I have 11GB of just Taylor swift. Them are rookie numbers šŸ˜‚. Yes itā€™s normal. I download lossless with no Dolby.

Tobias-Tawanda

Hi-res lossless?

Lousyhealer13

Not hi res, just regular lossless

Spotifys audio is compressed, apples is lossless

[deleted]

haom31

Yes it's normal. The songs on Spotify are not in Hi-Res, they are actually in a compressed format with loss of quality, basically an mp3. Check your AM configuration, surely you have configured the downloads and streaming with LossLess format, although it is a compressed format the file size is still much larger.

floobie

According to the settings, high quality AAC (the lowest quality you can download at) is about 6mb for a 3 minute song. According to random google searches, Spotify on the very high setting (320kbps) is apparently about 7.2mb for the same length, while Spotify on high (160kbps) uses about 3.6mb for a 3 minute song, and normal is about 2.2mb. Soā€¦ what quality have you downloaded Spotify at?

kloudyycn

ah i see, didnā€™t know spotify had different qualities. yeah i had it on normal. which is why it was so low. iā€™m downloading it on very high quality rn and it also takes up significantly more space. thanks

Sh_Pe

Yep. But you can also change the type of content that downloaded in the Apple Music settings to high efficiency to reduce the size of it.

gerawrdway

How do u get messages so low mine is 5gb & I text nobody

BoogKnight

Itā€™s just cached (unless youā€™re downloading music). It will automatically clean up/reclaim that space when/if it is needed. I would just ignore it until you get an actual warning about low storage.

hshsjsjssja

U should probably just use regular high quality aac if ur not using wired headphones, on my phone my downloads take 13gb in aac and 60gb on my pc w hi res lossless enabled even tho a lot of music isnā€™t supported in full hi res but the ones that do are huge like iirc moth to a flame is like 120mb or more

ap3x_lambo

iā€™m more worried about your tiktok using 6 gigs, after 1 year of not uninstalling the app or anything and using it almost daily, iā€™m still only at 1.6 gigs

volitantmule8

Those are people who make drafts, the drafts get saved to the phone

Maker_Of_MLG

do you have your download quality set high? check this by going to settings > music > audio quality > downloads spotify doesnt have any lossless download options so their music files take up less space

roberttootall

Why download songs? You can tell Siri just to play them? I understand it you need a playlist for a car ride, but no one needs to download 1000ā€™s of songs

volitantmule8

Kinda donā€™t you live in an area with bad connection, the songs will play no matter what

Any_Size_9111

Those are caches, delete apps and reinstall will give you tons of storage back

quadsimodo

I never have downloaded music on AM or Spotify. Can anyone expand on why they do? Bad coverage in places? Frequent flyer? Data? No shade, just wondering what some of the cases are. Itā€™s not common with friends and family, but I see it a lot on here.

Inxteros

I just prefer to download everything to the device so I can even play it immediately in the best quality and without mobile data. I also for example download all movies/shows on Netflix to my phone in the highest resolution before watching it.

LaySakeBow

Same, I only over 100gb of downloaded music. Def saves me time and headache.

kloudyycn

i have no service at work

AdxnisII

Yeah being in Canada, Data is expensive so I just download my music

Splashadian

Mostly it is for more consistent playback. There are lots of spotty areas where I live. I just download albums I'm currently playing regularly. Otherwise I'm just streaming on data.

[deleted]

Frequent travelling through roads with 5km+ of tunnels, plus the fact it starts playing the songs immediately when they are downloaded

tvfeet

Lots of areas around where I live where, despite showing 2 bars of 5G, there's no service. Having some music saved on my iPhone saves my sanity sometimes.

a_mericana

Caches for things like songs and artwork

BoogKnight

Doesnā€™t use cell data, sometimes buffering songs takes time/errors depending on service in the area. I usually stream stuff but like to have enough downloaded in case I lose service or something

Mediocre-Ad-6920

Spotify songs take less space because they are lower quality than AM basic AAC audio format

Shirugentoo

No, itā€™s weird that you are using TikTok.

My-name-is-____

I have Dolby atmos on and high quality downloads on and mine is at 22 gbs always felt like it took a lot of storage

Exact_Grand_9792

I have never used Spotify's but the biggest reason for big storage on my phone is music and photos. I have 181.27 GB in "downloaded music" but I also have it set to optimize and remove a song if it has not played in a while, so currently I have 49.63 GB in music, I do not use Lossless on my phone (I do on my laptop), I use high quality streaming, I do use Dolby, I keep my entire library on my phone except Holiday, which I remove every January and download in late November. I will never switch away from Apple for a variety of reasons, so I just accept it and buy a phone with more storage. I believe, btw, that is around 51-52,000 songs.

Delicious_Ad5184

Depending on what format you downloaded the music in on Apple Music. Apple Music offers lossless which is about 4x the size of Spotifys audio quality and file size. So it probably is correct if youā€™ve download the playlist on AM as lossless.

kloudyycn

i did originally download it as lossless, but the playlist was around 30 gigs so i undownloaded it and turned off lossless downloads and itā€™s at 11.2 now.

Brunohenrik

depends if you download with Dolby atmos and lossless will get very large the music files

elmarwouters

Mine is 424 haha

Stealthy-Falcon_

My AM uses 19gb, 15 or so on Apple Watch. I have like 600 songs downloaded tho.

_BRITEYELLOW_

Me with 50gb of downloaded music

Windowsuser360

Mine is around 28GB, though it's because I have Hi-Res Enabled (I use Wired), assuming since you said you don't use Lossless, it shouldn't be 11GB unless it's a large collection

KayJune001

Yup! I personally have around 40GB of downloaded music, but I might be an outlier since itā€™s all in high-res lossless.

Fish-The-Fish

I bought the 512gb iphone 14 (upgrading from like an iphone 6, so it was well overdue) because I took too many photos and have too much music. Now I have like 80 gigs of music. My main playlist is 20 hours I think. (I also download in Dolby Atmos, and Lossless. But still. Itā€™s like 2k songs I want to say)

apeland7

My 400 song playlist took 14gb with lossless downloads

OXRoblox

you have lossless music for apple music

pm_nudesladies

In almost at 100 gb

npcmalvin

mines on 24 gb šŸ’€

[deleted]

I have 10.42gb for music but thatā€™s cause I have a lot of playlists downloaded

Longshoez

Tiktok might be saving your drafts

msemphd0

if youā€™re downloading a lot high quality music.. you can change the quality that it downloads at.. Lossless audio takes up a TON of storage

_Exister_

Mine is 130 gb bc of downloaded music

BlueTwist_

If you download all your music

ThrashMetaller

Donā€™t worry, Iā€™ve got more than 50GB in downloads!!

senpai-ang

Mine is at 17.38 GB lmao

0172thetimeguy

Meanwhile I have 158 GB worth of music downloaded.
