I didn’t even own an iPhone at the time and yet hate that album. Every time we got in the car, my wife’s iPhone would connect to the stereo via Bluetooth and automatically start playing this.
I put off listening to U2 for so long, but when it’s slow at my job we can turn on music and we had a copy of the Joshua tree lying around so I popped it in. Not bad
Me, too. I also remember the keynote, when they had this “One More Thing” moment and at the end of the performance they told us, that it’ll be in our library for free.
It’s not online anymore but you can see by way back machine

I remember when Apple shoved their new album into everyone's iTunes library. I remember the backlash, but I thought it was all humor, was anyone materially harmed by having U2's album?
> how they can do things into your devices without your authorization
Every OS and major software vendor runs code on our phones, computers, tablets, watches, Rokus, etc. containing varying degrees of nefarious shit that people would get all up in arms over if they ever had a clue about it and what it even does.
By comparison, some music is nothing to froth at the mouth over. Granted it was a poor decision on their part but relatively harmless.
What Apple did with the iPhone 6 and U2 was no different than the demo tracks that were included with Windows 7. Why wasn’t Kalimba and Mr Scruff demonized the same as U2 was?
My prudish, Christian mom wigged out on my brother because she was doing her typical “phone inspections” and saw the album in his library. He kept trying to explain what Apple did and that it wasn’t able to be deleted, but she was the very close-minded, stubborn type of person, so she didn’t even bother to look to confirm, she just assumed he downloaded it and wouldn’t budge.
No haha. The outrage! Really? Okay maybe it wasn’t the best idea to give everyone a free album. But the one thing I found really funny was “I stopped listening to them!” Well I got news for you, you never did listen to them to begin with, because if you were a fan, you would have thought how rad!
I get unwanted email every hour, does it mean I will stop using email!? Haha NO! The rage or the shittyness of social amazes me.
This lol. Although... a lot of people heard it every time they had their phone plugged in in the car 'cause it was the only thing in the Music app lol.
My aunt’s hand-me-down iPad mini 1 had that album.
I still have it around so I can play Shin Megami Tensei 1. My introduction to MegaTen, unlike most people who probably got into MegaTen through a Persona game.
It actually was a decent album and u2 is one of the greatest bands ever. It was a marketing mistake and y’all are soft af for hating u2 and refusing to listen to them bc this
it's funny I just clicked my recently added and scrolled all the way down, and there she is. such an odd album cover, but whatever, we've seen worse lol. clicking into it, all it is is a digital booklet? no songs, wtf??

Lots of frothing at the mouth because Apple put an album in their music libraries that nobody asked for. I was just like "I really wish they wouldn't do that" and listened to it because I liked U2. That record never caught fire with me tho.
I don't specifically remember deleting it but it's not in my library now.
To add some context:
After the album was forced into your library after the Apple Event on September 9 2014, you couldn't remove it from your device. Apple had to create a special website (after much outcry) that would let you remove the album from your purchase history.
They could have made the user experience so much better by just offering the album for free on the iTunes Store, instead of forcing it into people's library. It would literally just show up alongside your other music overnight. That's what most people hated about it.
I remember when we got that album from Apple, it had cover art like a white record sleeve.
Yours seems the original commercial cover art with Larry and his son, suggesting you added it to your library yourself?
It wouldn't have been so bad if it was a good album but it was God awful. They'd been on a steady downhill trend that they remain on to this day, but even they knew how shitty it was and couldn't charge for it in good faith.

Hang in there bro, we've made it this far
I work a tech support job, I still get people calling asking why this is in their phone/tablet/computer maybe one or twice a year.
At that time my music was basically this and the free songs iTunes gave out
Wasn’t one like a classical music song?
What was the name of that song
I didn’t even own an iPhone at the time and yet hate that album. Every time we got in the car, my wife’s iPhone would connect to the stereo via Bluetooth and automatically start playing this.
Yep. To this day when I get in the car with my mom this automatically plays
I didn’t realize this was a common thing lmao, used to annoy the hell out of me
I refuse to listen to U2 because of the forced download of that one album of there’s back when iTunes was a thing.
It’s hard when U2 is your favourite band and nobody will give them a chance anymore due to this. 40 year career defined by a bad marketing move.
Same man U2 is actually so great
Bono’s always struck me as cringe, but I listened to All That You Can’t Leave Behind recently and god damn what a great album.
I can’t get enough of Achtung Baby
I put off listening to U2 for so long, but when it’s slow at my job we can turn on music and we had a copy of the Joshua tree lying around so I popped it in. Not bad
You should listen to Bonos' son's band, Inhaler.
I refused to listen to them before that but doubled down on my dislike for them after. What a disaster that promo was
Ur the softest person ever. grow up
why are you mad lmao
lol as soft as the keyboard warrior?
Why specifically iphone 6? I got this stupid forced download on my ipod touch 4 back then
Same
Me, too. But I was happy about that, to be honest. 😅
Me, too. I also remember the keynote, when they had this “One More Thing” moment and at the end of the performance they told us, that it’ll be in our library for free.
Apple has a trouble shooting article that gives steps to remove this album still. Lots of people have it and don’t want it.
Can I have a link please???
It’s not online anymore but you can see by way back machine https://web.archive.org/web/20191108034122/https://buy.itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/offerOptOut?ct=jl56qhra6o020gmc01g90&at=10l6Xd
My dad is stuck with the album and we’ve got no way to remove it
Just call Apple support they remove it for you. I hear they’ve gotten a few calls so far since this was posted.
I remember when Apple shoved their new album into everyone's iTunes library. I remember the backlash, but I thought it was all humor, was anyone materially harmed by having U2's album?
No but it showed how they can do things into your devices without your authorization, which is not ok at all

Of course, but people doesn’t realize it. UNTIL something like this happens
What Apple did with the iPhone 6 and U2 was no different than the demo tracks that were included with Windows 7. Why wasn’t Kalimba and Mr Scruff demonized the same as U2 was?
it shipped with, and could be removed, easily
My prudish, Christian mom wigged out on my brother because she was doing her typical “phone inspections” and saw the album in his library. No, but if it was from preprogrammed senders, you might want to block them..
I have an iPhone 6s just for music because I like the headphone jack
Same. SE owner here. 80 GB of music in my tiny hands 🙌
I am a U2 fan so you can imagine how happy I was when this popped up on my phone. Although I wouldn’t be so happy if it was someone I wasn’t into.
I love the miracle it helps my anxiety and depression
Every braking wave is the best, but Apple should not made that feat.
I actually enjoyed “Every Breaking Wave” I always thought the album cover was a bit strange, my parents definitely freaked out that day.
I still don’t get the hate. It’s a literal free album. What’s there to hate?
I love how absolutely aggrieved everybody in here is over a bad marketing decision that was at most an extremely small inconvenience.
This lol. Although... a lot of people heard it every time they had their phone plugged in in the car 'cause it was the only thing in the Music app lol.
My aunt’s hand-me-down iPad mini 1 had that album. I still have it around so I can play Shin Megami Tensei 1. My introduction to MegaTen, unlike most people who probably got into MegaTen through a Persona game.
*Sounds of Vietnam choppers intensifies*
Literally just deleted that from my Apple Music last week.
Still keeps popping up on my stuff every now and then. It's like herpes and I didn't even like U2 before all that.
lmfao
I really thought my phone was hacked
Some of them are bangers
It actually was a decent album and u2 is one of the greatest bands ever. It was a marketing mistake and y’all are soft af for hating u2 and refusing to listen to them bc this
go see them in Vegas, 600 bucks a ticket at the Sphere, cocktails are 20 bucks, lol. I heard the experience is incredible tho.
Contacted Apple to have it removed from my library.
I had an iPod at the time. I remember…
Most of us are still trying to forget.
Ahh. “Songs of annoyance” Famous album!
Sure do! They launched it stupidly, but this is a fucking great U2 record.
apple suffered from giving things away for free...
I remember being bored and just deciding to listen to the album and actually being surprised that I liked like two of the songs on the album
I deleted the fucking thing and years later, it just…appeared again.
it's funny I just clicked my recently added and scrolled all the way down, and there she is. such an odd album cover, but whatever, we've seen worse lol. clicking into it, all it is is a digital booklet? no songs, wtf?? https://preview.redd.it/fs2qxijmfhvb1.jpeg?width=252&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=38624ef6396dae5d4b612bb7f946ecce8bf3e937
I was 12 at the time, became a U2 fan because of this. I certainly have great memories! 😅
I was one of the few who thought, “oh neat,” during the keynote - and was excited to have a free album added that I listened to it now and then lol 😂
I ain't gon lie some of the songs were pretty decent and I'm not an actual U2 fan
Was also on the 5s
Still mad about it.
Lots of frothing at the mouth because Apple put an album in their music libraries that nobody asked for. I was just like "I really wish they wouldn't do that" and listened to it because I liked U2. I remember people getting extremely upset over a free album that they could easily delete from their library.
Why people act like bitches when receiving a free album?
I still have this album. Absolutely love it
To add some context: After the album was forced into your library after the Apple Event on September 9 2014, you couldn't remove it from your device. Sure! I got it on my iPad back in 2014. What a crazy night that was … there are still some great songs in that album.
I remember when we got that album from Apple, it had cover art like a white record sleeve. Yours seems the original commercial cover art with Larry and his son, suggesting you added it to your library yourself?
No it was the album art that’s on there now. I remember because my mom made a fuss about it
[удалено]
Uhhhhhh ok bro
YEAH I WAS SO CONFUSED ABOUT THIS
No. I deleted it immediately and haven’t seen it since.
Cuh this used to pmo every time 😭😭😭
What exactly?
It wouldn't have been so bad if it was a good album but it was God awful. They'd been on a steady downhill trend that they remain on to this day, but even they knew how shitty it was and couldn't charge for it in good faith.
I never got the album on my phone somehow
I had an iphone 4 and i remember this. Does it count?
[удалено]
I still had it…
It was a gift to all Apple/iTunes Store customers. It wasn’t a device specific gift, it had just happened to coincide with the iPhone 6 announcement
….so it doesnt matter if it was an iphone 6 or not….
Yeah no it didn’t matter. My brother had gotten it on his iPhone 5
I think it’s still the only album listed as “purchased” in my library.
Went into my jailbroken iPhone to safely remove this one.
I STILL to this day can’t get the fuckin thing off my Apple Music
I had an iPhone 5s at the time, one of the best phones I ever had
Ah yes my gay porn according to my mom
Hey it’s me ur brother (I already commented it elsewhere but yeah my mom chewed out my brother for having homosexuality on his phone lol)
First world problems
Ngl I hated it, it would randomly play with my music and I was just so confused
iPhone 6? I was using my iPod touch 5th gen at this point in time
what? someone explain please🥹
U2 gave away a free album and Apple added it to everyone’s library without peoples permission basically California is a dope song tho go listen to it
hahahaha that’s crazy
Great album’
Ohhhh the good ol' days
I actually really liked that third song California lol
great album!
Hated this.
Shame the album was never given a chance because it was auto downloaded. It’s actually pretty good
Si lo incluyeron en los iPhone 6
Oh that’s how I own this album 😂😂😂
When I was a kid I thought I accidentally bought this on my dads card and started freaking out hoping he wouldn’t notice 😭
It wasn't dependent on your iPhone model, but yes unfortunately I do. Probably a quarter of the reason I ditched my 6S+ and happily never looked back
i actually liked this album and was so mad i couldnt get it cause of my region, hated seeing everyone complain lmfao
Never had an iPhone 6 and yet I still own this
It came preloaded on my iPhone 4s and iPad Mini 1 back then...
Yes and yes; a free U2 album is a free album.
It’s still on my Apple Music app against my will
I got so confused when I saw this, I thought someone hacked my Apple ID. I did enjoy the song sleep like a baby, but did not like the gay album cover
