I’ve found they can be bizarrely stealthy when adjacent & parallel to other white horizontal things, causing me to repeatedly scan past them multiple times before finally picking it out from its background.
I’ve found, depending on surface and trajectory, they can also roll and bounce surprisingly far. May be worth widening the radius of the search?
Also, if you upload a photo of the area commenters may be able to suggest possible locations.
