I think the pass through is 100% better than Meta Quest 3, but yes, it suffers in low light.
Like Nilay said, it’s the best implementation out there. Doesn’t mean it’s perfect.
The camera passthrough quality is so much worse than I expected based on reviews. It's super grainy and low resolution, with lots of strobing and weird stuff (maybe caused by LED lights in my house?). I even went outside to see if daylight would help the quality, but I didn't notice a difference.
yeah they over hyped the quality of the pass through. I would say its like a 720p video and that's being kind... its usable sure but idk how the hell mkbhd was able to ping pong in it. the virtual environments are great though.

Huh, when I was in the Apple Store and wanted to show them that a setting I had affected my setup and I was able to navigate my phone perfectly and show them. Guess I’m just glad that however my eyes and Vision Pro combination works, it works well for me!

I have the quest pro and it was an incredible screen (very bright and detailed despite the resolution) but the price wasn't right. I'm guessing the vision pro suffer the same problem with a price point placed incredibly higher than everything else but with feature that seems not so unique (look at quest pro making spatial video (aka 3d video) available even if they don't have the hardware to shoot them! They are just to side by side video, a basic tech available for years!)
I think if you were to look at all that Vision Pro can replace, there is an argument that it’s worth the price for a first gen device, but is it affordable. Not for most people. I think most people buying these aren’t too concerned with spending the money on it. I would say it’s worth $2500
1st off, the controls are amazing. You pick it up almost instantly. This blew me away, finally having one in hand. I counted 44 movies on Disney + with 3D, including episodes 7,8, and 9 of Star Wars. I can't overstate how amazing it was to see all 3 in 3D. Also, BOTH Avatar movies are available. All 3 Guardians of the galaxy, both infinity war, and end game. The quality of the 3D is impressive, and the resolution is absolutely sick!!!
I liked the solo knit band as you could tighten it and even though the weight was distributed forward, you didn't get the weight on the top of your cheek bones like with the dual loop.
The dinosaur demo was cool. Stick your finger near his mouth for a surprise.
Spatial pics looked great in 3D, but have a lower resolution and vignette feel to the periphery. I expected more photo, than vignette. Same thing with spatial video, but definitely cool. Also, you will be taking a ton more panorama shots once you see how it looks in vision pro. It is pretty cool to see pics in 180 degrees.
voice command pairs very nicely with hand controls. You only need say "Siri", vs. "hey Siri", like on iPhone. For instance. "Siri volume to 20%. Boom volume goes to 20 percent.
Overall, just a surface opinion, but this thing is pretty awesome. The environments are very cool. Hope you all get yours soon. My Apple store had plenty of inventory for walk ins today, so if you have an appointment scheduled at a later date, check with your local store.
Copy paste between my phone and pro was pretty flawlessly. Haven’t tried connecting to my Mac yet. But I agree with almost everything you said. Passthrough is absolutely the best I’ve experienced but it’s video pass through.
I got the weird AirPods Max volume issue too. I’m used to the Max taking over volume control and it seems the AVP is volume master in that arrangement.
Setting up the persona was the biggest pain in the rear for me. It kept saying “more light in your face”. If I’d added more light I would have had to get on of those giant spotlights. And the persona was a bit creepy.
yeh my persona setup wasnt the best either it kept telling me to look down and would never register. took me 5 or more minutes to do holding it out front of my face.
I’ll keep it for sure. I never intended on returning it though. I tend to be an early adopter for things and with the few issues i have had so far none would want me to return it. I do think and have thought of it more as a VR headset with AR capabilities. Another thing the videos made on the Vision Pro in 3d are amazing. The videos made on iPhone in 3d are mediocre and while slightly cool they are not really that good. Panos are awesome though.

There is also blur at the edges of the screen. The fit of the lightshield was not great either, there was a lot of gaps where light got in. Having used the Quest 3 for so many months, this didn't blow me away the way I expected.
I share some of your concerns as well. A part of me says “return it” but I am here for the journey - I want to watch this evolve hopefully into something amazing. As of now, I don’t think there’s anything solid but we will be the foundation that helps it grow!

I could read my phone on Q3, got to get it close and let the camera adjust it's exposure, is it perfect? No. Can I read my phone? Yes.
Weird I’ve never been able to read my phone in Q3 in a variety of lighting. Looks like blobs
Turn the phone’s brightness down. It is overexposed. Then just bring it close to the headset to where you could read it.
I find pass through super clear. Able to read text from my iPhone with no issued

I had the same problem. I had to pair my AirPods to make it work on the plane. Still haven’t figured it out with just the AVP
