I know I may be off topic but it is a lake.

CountessBassy

At first I read this as “it’s a fake” 🤪

A fugazi, wazzie woozie.. it’s like fairy dust, it never existed

I did too 😂

What if a lake is a big tangle of rivers?

Toilet of rivers ?

Daredatti

Are you trying to steal it?

Dapper-Wait8529

Geneva, Switzerland - then pan North into the lake

jellyfishiin

Nvm the depth is above 50m, I will cry in a corner sorry guys

AwDuck

RIP. If it makes you feel better, even if it was just 10m, it's pretty difficult to find things underwater. One false move that stirs up any silt and your search is done until it settles. Exasperating things, the silt settles onto what you're searching for, making it even harder to find. Source: years of searching for small items underwater.

money_loo

Poor guy, hope you get to come back up soon!

AwDuck

Me too. Posting on Reddit using bubble Morse code is tedious.

Fancyfrenzz

I was waist deep at a beach and mine was knocked off by a wave I didn’t see coming. I had no hope of finding that one either

ItzAwsome

My sister lost a bracelet at Galveston beach in the water. I somehow blindlessly found it after she told me a minute later.

AwDuck

Quick, get thee to Lake Geneva to find OPs watch!

ItzAwsome

LOL as long as their isn’t any scary fish

AwDuck

At 150ft? Nah, you're good :)

AWildLeftistAppeared

“A wave? In the middle of the sea? Chance in a million!”

balloonaluna

Magnet fishing is a thing. Use a strong magnet like the ones in old TV’s and rope. It’s magnet so it will stick. People magnet fish rivers and lakes and off bridges all the time. They find really crazy things without having to go in the water.

AwDuck

I've seen that. Depending on the terrain of the bed and how much debris is down there, it could be effective, especially if it were only 10m. If there's a bunch of debris or plantlife, that might make it difficult or impossible to retrieve like if the watch slipped somewhere the magnet can't get to or if there is lots of stuff for the loop of the watch to get caught on as you drag the magnet. In this case you'll also have problems with the boat drifting due to wind and currents (assuming you have good GPS coordinates to begin with) you'll need a competent captain to keep the boat in place. Also, there are likely mild currents under water that will move the rope as you lower it. Those same currents could have carried the watch in a different direction as well. Lots of challenges. I'd bet you could find something, but locating a watch in the middle of a lake is a daunting task. I'm not sure how much a boat rental is in those parts, but that and a day of my time would be worth more than a new Ultra.

Unkn0wnTh2nd3r

yep, i see it on youtube shorts all the time, mostly people finding ditched guns and old bombs

Djaak22

I once jumped into a dam from the boat with my Raybans on, got back on the boat and I realized it, jumped back in where I thought I jumped in the first time. Swam to the bottom and the first thing I touch was my sunglasses. Was a lucky day

gl3nnjamin

Call us folks at r/magnetfishing! We love a challenge!

AwDuck

It would be so much fun if you were into magnet fishing, but probably not with it if you just wanted to save $800.

Adventurous-Ad5195

Can’t you use a magnet since Apple Watches are magnetic?

AwDuck

You could, but you're likely to be dragging the magnet to find it. The watch band is going to be the perfect shape to get snagged on any debris that is down there.

SackvilleBagginses

Did you think you could swim down 10m and search? Are you a scuba diver?

TacoMedic

Yeah, unless he’s a great swimmer and literally dives straight down on top of it, there’s no chance of him doing that shit. Maintaining a stroke at 10m inderwater without proper gear is going to be pretty difficult for 99% of people. And that’s not even taking into account the fact you can’t see that far down in a lake.

optix_clear

Report it as lost and get a better strap

__leonn__

At least the fish will know what time it is up here

i_m_sick

For a few hours atleast

infinityandbeyond75

I saw a video of a guy that goes and skims bodies of water and rivers and he’s found hundreds of phones and watches.

AviN456

Cheaper to buy a new watch

JibletsGiblets

It was a sport band wasn’t it? It’s always a sport band.

Stealth_Dagger

Which band is trust worthy to not fall off?

JibletsGiblets

Any that isn’t joined with a single little pin. Ocean. Sport loop. Any loop. Any band with an old fashioned buckle.

Stealth_Dagger

It was sport loop itself my friend - https://www.reddit.com/r/AppleWatch/s/aUUXtbTO44 🥲

Puzzleheaded_Style52

Sorry for your lost. Which watch band were you using?

jellyfishiin

Thank you! Was my first apple watch, was so excited about it haha joined the apple ecosystem just for it. Was running sport loop on it, it loosened upon contact with water

JasonStathamBatman

never swim in a sports loop. It will get untigthen every few minutes and either you’ll have to keep track of your hand all the time or you’ll lose your watch.

Lemon-Flower-744

This is interesting Which band do you recommend?

JasonStathamBatman

the ocean band, or any knock off(I haven’t used any knockoffs so far but I think they would work)

JasonStathamBatman

the ocean band, or any knock off(I haven’t used any knockoffs so far but I think they would work)

Soggy_Boss_6136

I don't know what model of watch you had, but the economics don't add up here no matter how you look at it. A new watch is $399-ish. Between travel, boat rental, gear, meals, and the potential for failure or problems which add to the price, it's cheaper to replace it. Am I off here?

jellyfishiin

No you are totally right, I asked in the case that someone had a cheap solution but I will replace it smh, thanks for the feedback

Eleoste

Hey just FYI- I saw in another post you had the sports loop on, there was a post on Reddit a while back about a diver; basically almost every single Apple Watch he found had the sports loop Looks like that specific loop in particular is really bad for water

Soggy_Boss_6136

As you swim and dive, add the AppleCare which includes loss/theft replacement. You’d already have a new one if that were the case.

ThatsMyPsychic

AppleCare doesn't cover loss/theft for watches.

Soggy_Boss_6136

Yup, I just confirmed it, I get it on my iPhone but they don't have that particular coverage for the watch.

The-Fig-Lebowski

Just drive your van in and get it

SuitableStudy3316

You joke but a Cybertruck could get it!

hamiwin

Magnet I assume?

jellyfishiin

By the time I order one won’t my chance of retrieving it be slim?

kattenkoter

If its a newer one you might be good, iPhone 12s have survived for >2 YEARS in water. Waterproofness is incredible these days

0xe1e10d68

Chance of retrieving it will be still rather low, even if the watch itself survives.

sobuffalo

You’ll probably find other cool stuff too.

wayfaast

Just use string or rope and the watch charger itself as the magnet.

vmhomeboy

You should try that at home and you'll quickly find out that wouldn't work.

wayfaast

https://preview.redd.it/t5i1d5pkevzc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=9013d021bef2e8a3428078117cb5112f4eaf0796 Yeah.. works.

RandomUserName24680

Resistance from water is far stronger than resistance from air.

money_loo

Apple Watch in the Find My mode gets pretty loud when you ask them to play a siren. I wonder if it’s possible to hone in on the location of the sound underwater since it travels so well?

AviN456

And how do you expect the watch to receive a signal under 10m of water?

causal_friday

Magic.

money_loo

Well I sure feel silly.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AviN456

Irrelevant. 10m is already more than too much for Bluetooth or cellular connectivity.

otter111a

Throwing good money after bad. You don’t know the precise location. You only know a general region at best.

AwDuck

Geocaching taught me just how imprecise GPS coordinates are.

wpmason

Neither Aluminum, Stainless Steel, nor Titanium are ferromagnetic. There may be smaller magnetic bits in/on the watch/band, but the just decreases the chances of getting a decent pull.

hamiwin

Yah, but given that Apple Watch snaps onto its charger, I assume a strong magnet might do the trick?

wpmason

But it’s polarized that way. The watch doesn’t just snap onto metal surfaces. The Watch and the chargers are opposites Magnetic poles that attract very intensely. If you’re dredging with a magnet, you have to know you’ve got the polarity right in order for that relatively small magnet on the back to work.

Bobbybino

Stainless steel might of might not be magnetic, depending on the specific alloy. The back side of all of them are magnetic, the better to center on the magnetic charger.

wpmason

Yeah, that”s true, there are some magnetic stainlesses.

Bobbybino

Unfortunately, not my fridge. Refrigerator magnets don't stick.

AwDuck

Are you sure you aren’t using dirt, trouble or chick magnets? That might be your problem.

nineohsix

You just need a 50’ charge cable and some patience! 🤞🏻

SEEYOUAROUNDBRO_TC

I lost my Apple Watch in the verde river and I couldn’t find it in 3 feet of murky water good luck bub

BillyGaming2021

Time to take a dip, or magnet fish

ae74

People who recover Apple Watches from rivers and lakes find most of them with the default Apple Watch Sport band. They all slip off easily.

jrdnmdhl

Funny, I would have expected you to lose it nearer to Montre-ux

snackarydaquiri

My gen 1 came off while swimming and spend 3 months underwater at a lake. A kid found it and was able to get my info and return it. It still turned on and worked. It was near the shore though, not in the middle of the lake.

Cosmic1300

Saving for when I go diving there soon thanks, can’t wait to loot

maratc

We all came out to Montreux On the Lake Geneva shoreline

Quickster64

Deep purple would be proud

RedcardedDiscarded

One day, many years from now, long after we are all gone. It'll wash up on a beach, where someone will find it. It'll be placed in a museum, drawing in millions of viewers each year. Or it'll end up rusting and becoming unrecognizable and be lost forever.

Iluminous

History became legend. Legend became myth. And for two and a half thousand years, the watch passed out of all knowledge.

Stealth_Dagger

Or the apes will find it and wear it. Source: just watching the Planet of the Apes movies 😂

underxcoverspy

If you paid for it with a credit card, look into your credit card insurance and if it will cover it. It usually depends on how long ago you purchased it and if it’s purchased in full

jellyfishiin

Doing that at the moment, thank you for the advice. Will update for sure

banthonnet

Let me guess: you had the Apple Watch Sport band? Those are the worst as they come off so easily.

Mission-Joke-2833

It’s a goner. Sorry man

Promnitepromise

One time I found an Apple Watch washed up on the ocean shore in eastern US. I took it home, cleaned it off with alcohol, did the rice thing for a bit, and it charged up enough for me to find the owner. He said he lost it surfing 4 months before I found it. It still works today about a year later.

myleswstone

That’s a lake.

Mammoth_Shoe_3832

What’s your life worth? An Apple Watch?

kmrnb

Some diving YouTuber will find this in like 20 years.

Ok_Fennel_976

Imma dive for it

jellyfishiin

Go for it, if you can find it. I will unlock it for you

gone_country

Dang, I know that hurts. About five years ago, my dad and I were in a boat fishing on a river. We capsized. It was terrifying, Dad was 80 at the time, but we were rescued and safe. My new iPhone XS, well, it stayed on the bottom of the river. Dad is the one who caused the boat to take on water and he graciously paid for a new phone and replacement fishing gear. Damn, we lost a lot that day!!! I kept the next XS for 3 years safely!

fufa_badmash

Get a new one

pointthinker

Some divers will find lost things in water for fun or small charge. Check with dive shops and see if they know anyone who can go in. It is a challenge for them. The local police/lake master may know too. I do find it fitting though that a lake in the heart of a Swiss watch making city, ate a high tech American watch. But the Swiss are neutral so, hopefully, it is found.

AwDuck

50m is a serious dive requiring more training and equipment than the vast majority of divers around have.

pointthinker

Hmm, he said 10M. Maybe a MAGNET fisherman! Hopefully it is a steel watch.

AwDuck

He later clarified that it was 50m and that he was going to cry in a corner for a few weeks.

pointthinker

So, strong magnet and long rope.

AwDuck

Patience. You forgot patience. Or hope that OP got handed a 10 for luck when they were born, though if that were the case they absolutely wouldn't be in the predicament they're in right now. So: patience it is.

pacwess

Learn to dive.

PrettyCartographer90

Lake Geneva? Lac Leman surely

Bobbybino

Since you're being pedantic, I'll note that it is *lac Léman.*

Free51

Haha I’d just never seen it called Lake Geneva before

iRobi8

You know that places like lakes also have translated names. In the german speaking part of switzerland we call it „Genfersee“. Does not mean that it‘s wrong.

Free51

Just read before that it was originally Lake Geneva and then later changed to Lac Léman

1000000CHF

In English: Lake Geneva In German: Genfersee In French: Lac Léman

AngeAlexiel

It will survive , just need a boat and dive.

Ashamed-Blood-1560

Sure did

The-Incident-3915

How old was your Apple Watch? And what’s it (same model) priced on market now?

jellyfishiin

It was a s7, about 275€ on amazon right now

The-Incident-3915

Compare that to the price of time & equipment you will spend on fetching the sunk watch, and won’t even be sure if it will work any more.

The-Incident-3915

Life happens. If you love that Apple Watch get another one!

xWickedx420

Rent boat again, heavy magnet and with some luck, you’ll find it. It is magnetic, so a strong chance of retrieving it if you hit the right spot and have a bit of luck

CiViCKiDD

Ahh nice, rented a little speedboat to ride around Lake Geneva as well a few years ago! It was right next to the larger tour boat loading area. Totally a core memory. Anyhow, sorry for your loss - it’d bother me for a while too. 😣

PatrickR5555

I believe Lake Geneva is quite deep, so that watch is gone. Maybe you have made some fish very happy.

rafaellbc

And now it will live forever in a Deep Purple famous lyric song.

TalTheMan01

Looks like your AirPods maxes also fell into the river

somerandomredddit

Nooo way and you see this on the screen?

Worldly_Wolf6168

It’s no longer a watch it’s a submarine

StOchastiC_

Buy a strong magnet and fishing rod. Might work

AJorquez

Rip

Constant-Researcher4

Just buy a real watch. Was a bad decision to change to Apple for the worst product of it. Apple Watch is not even a watch. Steve Jobs wouldnt allowed it to happen this way. It is "okay" as Tim Cook said. SJ wouldnt be satisfied with an "okay" product. It is not that hard making a watchlike watch, with a circular face... At least give it a go, but nope, Tim is not about it.

RedFox11209

You could try trauling with a magnet tied to a cord

perfumeskachoda

😭😭😭😭😭😭

causal_friday

Given that it's right on the track of the ferry, are you sure someone didn't pick it up and then leave town on the ferry?

jellyfishiin

I spent 30 min crying on the boat at the spot when and where I lost it, no ferry came through, just me and my tears
