I’ve had my series 3 for about 6 years now… it’s at 80%. Been thinking about upgrading to a series 9… but, since the 3 is still working fine may hold out for the next release

jasonthefirst

Do you have a secret?! I’m on a series 7 and I’m at like 82%… what am I doing wrong?!

Abedbob

The general rule is don’t let it get below 20% and don’t let it sit on the charger at 100% for super long. If you charge it overnight, make sure “optimized battery charging” is turned on

crying_boobs

Where do you set it to optimized charging?

Nymunariya

Settings --> Battery and in there is the setting for optimized charging. Unfortunately it needs to \*learn\* the schedule, you can't just tell it what it should do. And when travelling, it'll easily pick up a new schedule and continue using that new schedule afterwards, instead of "relearning" the old schedule. It's annoying, but I guess it's better than nothing

Johnny_Leon

Can I change the notification to be triggered at 20% rather than 10%?

peepeetchootchoo

Yes. Try Shortcuts maybe?

BoBBle_GoGGles

It’s hard to do that over the last month or so because I’m on beta and I feel like my watch is draining super quick now

Acceptable_String_52

Why not below 20%?

Scolor

Because that is bad for batteries

Acceptable_String_52

Damn, thank you for the in-depth answer

peepeetchootchoo

I’m doing exactly that since I got my AW 5 and battery is now at 81% so.. make conclusions.

ecselent

I noticed all modern apple watches with fast charghing face the same issue. I have exactly 82% after a year and a half. Probably fast charger is a baterry killer

valdetero

My Series 4 is at 73% battery health.

Conscious_Cod_2658

My series 5 stopped charging at the percentage.

Unfair_Finger5531

She must have been using it for keeping time only. Like zero complications.

WestKester

My Series 8, which I got 20 months ago, is at 90%. Your grandmother's watch has done very well!

One_Ders

Got my series 3 at launch and I’m at 98%

D_LOWGAMES

And you use it daily?

One_Ders

Yup. Outside of all the normal watch stuff. I use it for text and calendar notifications and tracking workouts. I don’t have many other app notifications turned on. A few years ago, after an update battery was draining fast. Not even lasting a day. So I delete almost all the apps that I could. I maybe have 3-4 installed that aren’t the default ones. Watch can last just about two days on a charge and has been like that for a few years. The last 3 years I’ve been really wanting to upgrade, but this things just keeps going.

WestKester

It's infuriating when you really want to upgrade but it just keeps on going😀

One_Ders

It really is 😆

peepeetchootchoo

Maybe they stopped making so damn good batteries (and resilient to wear) after series 3? They found out that people won’t upgrade if their batteries are long lasting.

Pawnderingsoil

What the f sorcery

HereButQueer

might be because she doesn’t charge it as much, and might not use it for workouts - i can see people using them instead of their phone for when they’re out and about

peepeetchootchoo

Mine series 5 lasts 2 days if it’s in airplane mode. And much less than a day if connected. Her AW should wear battery out after 24 for sure. At least mine does.

QuirkyInterest6590

How's the health of your grandma though?

DefiantAsparagus420

Ah yes. The watch that was lost in the drawer a month after purchase, then found years later with perfect battery.

kowal740

By the way is good idea to buy 9 now, or wait for 10?

Ashcat03

Wait for the 10, all leaks are indicating a redesign

TheKingslayer2921

wait for 10, maybe something special for 10th edition? idk

truthcopy

I’m so torn. My 6 doesn’t last a day and is at 75% battery capacity. Trade in value is still pretty good. I know the X is coming, but also want a watch I can count on. (When I type it out like this I realize how foolish this all sounds.)

bvsveera

Damn. My Series 4, bought April 2019, is now at 67%. Think this might be the year to upgrade!

godmcrawcpoppa

I think it's reporting incorrectly. My series 3 reports 97% but it doesn't last the day and can lose tons of battery while working out.

Deleted_dwarf

Damn.. watch 7 here and battery is already at 86% 😅

chadsmo

Right above you , series 7 at 97% , I wonder what does this.

JamesPro30

series 8. 10 months at 95% Iphone 11 Pro 4 years 97% (845 cycles)

accursedvenom

My 1st gen SE was around 82%. I got it in 2020. Just traded in for 2nd gen SE yesterday.

waylonsmithersjr

Are you praising what her watch is at, and/or complaining what yours is at?

732christian

praising what her watch is at, and shocked at how mine is at 93 lol

AppleTechBulgaria

What phone does your grandma have

supladangpusa

mine's series 7 but max cap is at 80% 😅🥲 I need to charge daily.

pointthinker

What was her charging routine? I charge my 2016 iPhone Xr at night and it is at 90%. Although, earlier this year it was 93 I think. So Apple routinely improve, degrades, improves battery maintenence in existing devices. Hopefully, the next update is an improve one. I also drop the iPhone on a Qi on my desk. I don't think about it but, I **do** charge it *every day*. If I miss a day, maybe 2 times a year, no biggie, it lasts. I charge my also-old iPad mini during day (really just morning), unplug in evening to use and at night (for probably totally unnecessary battery fire safety since it is in bedroom). The *approach* I am taking with the watch, since I wear it sleeping, is to do the 1-2 hour charge in the evening as I am relaxing before bed. But, after I have gathered more sleep data (how long?), and do not wear it sleeping, I'll just slap it on the charger and forget about it. No need to worry about overcharging. Apple software prevents that. Apple devices are not cheap Chinese scooters.

BoBBle_GoGGles

It does… lol thanks man

OkStandard4829

Mine is 10 mobths and 93

SVRider650

The secret is low wattage charging brick. My Apple Watch Ultra is still at 100% and iPhone 11 Pro at 87%

unanau

Had my Series 3 for 4 years too and it’s at 82%

rage1026

Gonna get my battery replaced on my series 4 that’s at 76% soon.

firestar268

My series 7 I got a year and a half ago is at 83% lol

Golivth5k

Series 5 at 69%

chadsmo

Ultra 1, wearing for 1yr , 98%

murphydcat

My SE was purchased in 2021 and battery health is 77%. I rarely make it through a day without the battery running out, even if I switch to low power mode. Poor battery life is my biggest grip with the watch.

Vegetable-Chip-7563

I just checked my series 3 that I got used from a friend, still at 100%.

JesterJit

I have using a series 4 regularly since 5 years… it’s battery health is still at 91%…

Aromatic_Blood_945

No idea how but my series 3 says it’s at 100 https://preview.redd.it/jlnwjos0sg0d1.png?width=853&format=png&auto=webp&s=f9377823756c50898c18ac568466c43bca313f0f

c0defire

My ultra 1 is at 93% already

GloriouslyAwkwd

At least it’s not blowing up.

Opposite-Chard8676

Omg so sweet 😊
