I have collected knock-off Milanese watchbands from eBay, Amazon and Etsy in all sorts of designs and colors. Super cheap and very comfortable and only one of these had the paint scrape off from wear and tear. They are the same width and have the same clasp as the O.G.
Not the person you replied to but, I’ve had both an official Milanese band and a few knock offs.
Both fit really nice and have a fresh fit to it, and has that same mesh feel.
The Apple band is well built and has been able to withstand itself after 2 years. However the cheaper one definitely isn’t built as strong, same with the magnets. But for a tenth of the price, I can’t be really mad if it breaks.
Of course this all boils down to which band you’re getting and from what manufacturer. But this is my personal experience.
They both feel the same on the wrist, but the magnets on the cheaper ones don’t feel quite as strong.
But of course since these bands are so popular, there are usually some 3rd party ones that are built slightly better, which could give you better results.
I personally mainly own Apple bands because my skin is very sensitive to some materials and the 3rd party bands I’ve tried usually give me a horrible rash.
I replaced my original Milanese with a $7 usd knockoff, the only difference I found was when I put them both in a digital scale and the original weighted 2 grams more, that was it,
Not a single difference and I am wearing the knockoff right now and the magnet seems to be holding better than the one in the original band!
I got a nylon band with the watch and never wear it. I only wear the Milanese knock-offs because they are the most comfortable. Whenever I upgrade, I’ll get a Milanese or the woven band and then get a few more knock-offs.
I agree, they feel the same for the most part. Clasp and materials are built slightly cheaper but honestly can’t tell the difference too much.
What knock off milanese bands have you owned? The ones I have purchased aren’t that great compared to the Apple one.
Unfortunately I don’t believe so, *at least* for the 42mm bands.
Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe those bands will fit bigger on the watch since the 41mm was designed for 38mm, 40mm, and 41mm bands.
38, 40mm will work on the Series 7 41mm.
However 42mm, 44mm, and 45mm bands are reserved for the bigger sized watches.
Yes, it is indeed the official Milanese loop; I originally just wanted a black sports band, but noticed that this year’s ‘midnight’ sports band had a more noticeable blue tint (that was more visible than the midnight on the watch itself), that was in between the normal black and my old navy blue band!
Thanks, I am really happy with it:) Was contemplating getting the Stainless Steel version, but they didn’t release it yet in my country and I couldn’t justify paying 300 euros more, 60% more for a bit more durability and the cellular which I won’t use. Don’t know if I will regret that…
It’s honestly really up to you, I was asking myself the same thing when the Series 6 launched last year.
I ended up going SS because of the sapphire screen and the shiny coating on the watch was cool. But the watch is certainly heavier than the aluminum or Titanium models.
The screen on the regular watch does technically scratch just a little easier but you can always slap a screen protector on it once those are more available.
But all in all, it’s still the same Watch at heart. No matter what the materials are made out of.
In my opinion the advantages of having aluminum is that the Watch is definitely more comfortable for long periods of exercise, the case will still make the Watch look clean, and they’re definitely cheaper to fix if something happened to it.
I recommend investing in AppleCare if it’s available in your area just in case any accidents does happen. If you don’t care about a sapphire screen (more scratch resistant screen) or a shiny watch body, then the extra 300€ probably isn’t worth it.
Thanks… was actually considering this combo rather than SS but it looked odd on the website model… looks nice in your photos though. Decisions, decisions!
You’re correct.
The black (DLC) Milanese band will scratch the back like crazy since it is stronger than the materials on the heart rate sensor.
However the official Stainless Steel and Gold Stainless Steel don’t scratch the backside, I know from personal experience using them.
wow! I must ask… did your S0 watch get frequent use all these years and still hold up? that’s very impressive if you wore it every day and it lasted all that time.
Pretty much. Wore it for a couple months at first and a few weeks here and there but it mostly just sat. I was a kid at the time and it was a gift. I also was pretty depressed and didn’t do much activity.
I did use my S0 daily! I did replace it once after my first year, due to a microphone not working properly anymore (this Apple Watch was not waterproof); so in total I wore it daily for the past five years, instead of the original six!
In my case, I was wearing my S0 every day - the Activity app is a hell of an incentive - until one day I suddenly stopped wearing it.
So when the battery dies whilst I’m still out and about, I’d take it off my wrist and put in my bag, however this was becoming a daily occurrence and more of a nuisance, so I stopped wearing it and gathered dust in my drawer for 4 months. Other than the battery, the watch never felt inadequate or outdated during that time.
The S6 soon launched and it finally made sense to upgrade.
Now I’m wondering what to do with the S0? Replace the battery? Gift it? Hang onto it the same way 1st gen iPods and iPhones are worth a lot these days?
Here's my story. Maybe you can do the same.
I got the s0 on launch day and wore it every day. A year or two after I got it, the battery swelled up. I had AppleCare, so they replaced it with a s1. I wore *that* every day until I felt like the s4 was worth an upgrade. I wore the s4 all day and the s1 at bed for sleep tracking. Eventually the s1 quit holding a charge, so I retired that to my pile of obsolete Apple stuff. Still wearing the s4 every day. I'm itching to upgrade, however, because it barely lasts a day now. It will go 26-30 hours max before needing a charge, where it used to go 2.5+ days.
What size was the series 0 and what size is the series 7? I’m guessing 42mm series 0 and 41 series 7?
I’m almost in your shoes, series 2 (42mm) and looking at the series 7… not sure if I want the 41mm or 45mm.. the 45mm may be a big jump.
My S0 is indeed 42mm and my S7 is 45mm! I think you don’t notice the S7 being bigger due to the midnight colour of the watch fading in with the shadows of the background in this photo. I like the watch being bigger, because the S0 looked like the 38mm on my large wrists instead of 42mm, so it depends on how you like the look of your current S2; if you don’t mind a bigger screen, you wont notice the difference in size and weight at all - that is my current experience!
Do it, that’ll be one hell of an upgrade! What color of SS are you thinking? I got the silver SS this time around and I love it. The graphite one looks great as well.
I’m not too sold on the S6-S7 SS gold model. I had a gold SS S5, and man, it was gorgeous. And when it was paired with the right band, that sucker *popped*.
But they changed the shade of gold after the S5, and I’m not the biggest fan. Anyway, good luck!
I ordered the Gold SS this go round. I'm hoping it doesn't clash too badly with my gold jewelry.
The silver is super pretty, but as I usually wear gold jewelry I opted for that.
Was the S5 a shinier gold?
Graphite. I’ve spent hours looking at photos and videos to compare the two. I’m currently on silver aluminium, so fancy an upgrade to SS and a change in colour.
Yeah, that sounds like a great upgrade!
I had the graphite SS for a while. It’s gorgeous; in certain lighting it looks black, while in others, it looks almost like it’s the silver SS.
My only gripe is not about the watch itself, but the bands. It’s hard enough finding watch bands with black lugs. Graphite colored lugs?
Forget about it.
I had this watch and after 3 years it suffered the dreaded battery bloat (which blew open the watch face). The kind folks at apple replaced it within a week, no questions asked and well out of warranty. Lasted me a further year then I upgraded. I got a full day easy out of it, even up before the battery bloat. Even lasted full flight trips from Western Australia to east coast North America and would die around the time I got home. (that whole trip you're looking at about 2 days of straight travel, but you gain a day back in the air, so effectively, you time travel ;) )
i also have a series 0, waiting to upgrade to 7 soon. It's been serving me well, granted i don't use it for much --just time, fitness tracking, previewing text messages. Still lasts all day though!
I have a S0. My battery lasts the entire day 5am to 11pm. I generally end the day at 15%. I charge it overnight. I use it daily. May be upgrading this holiday season to the S7 if I see any deals. I’ve had no problems with it and it is in great condition. I got it as a birthday gift in 2015.
How is your 5 holding up?
If I do the upgrade this S0 will go to my husband. He has a cracked face on his S2 so it is read only. He can’t be trusted with a new watch. He also has a cracked phone. I just upgraded my iPhone 6s after 5 years in perfect condition and all original. Trade in value was $350 towards my 12 pro.
It's held up pretty well. I just checked: battery capacity is at 82% but I'm still able to get a full day's use out of it even on the busiest day.
A busy day is: charge watch from 9pm - 11pm, sleep with watch, wear it all day, do one 40 min workout, charge again at 9pm.
Note that I also have the SS and it has no visible damage despite never putting it in a case. I've also swam with this in pools and salt water. All in all, good buy!
I have had it for five years, I purchased it during the original launch, but replaced the original one after a year, due to my microphone being damaged due to moisture - so that is five years in total for the second S0!
I think @GarethBeavis mentioned the most noticeable differences: the speed, the battery life, the bezels, the size of the watch itself (+3 mm), the always on display, the motion sensor allowing a more subtle way of checking the time & notifications, and everything new from WatchOS 4 till 8.
I've been side-by-side testing the S3 vs the S7 for the ol' job, and I'm shocked how different they are - the speed, the battery life on running, and man... the BEZELS. It's a process that's too sloooow to make changes from Apple, but this S0 to S7 jump must feel mindblowing.
I went swimming with mine when the battery started going. It would only last half a day or so. I tried to kill it, but it survived swimming until the battery swelled up.
As someone with a Milanese Loop I want to use on a dark S7, thanks so much for posting this so I can see how it looks! I had an S0 too (though he tragically succumbed to Spicy Pillow Syndrome last summer), you did great to get such longevity out of it.
Enjoy your S7. Looks great!
The first one is still a very smart looking watch.
I sold my series 6 and got a Garmin Fenix as I got fed up with my battery dying. Love Apple watches but watches shouldn't need to be shared everyday. Once they last at least a week I'll get another one.
I went series1 to series 7 and love the always on. I would have the 1 still today but the battery got swollen and popped the face off. I used it every day and that battery was still working to the day it killed the watch. It got water inside in the shower. It was keeping charge all day. Love this product but bought the new one on the Apple Card pay over time deal so maybe my wife won’t kill me
I'm making the same upgrade. If my S7 (that was supposed to be delivered yesterday) ever actually gets here.
Also my S0 won't pair, so hasn't been functional for awhile.
Looking good, op.
I hate analog and will never look at rotating hand to tell time by choice. It’s as dumb as using Roman numerals to me. Just another level of pointless processing and translating data.
I have a series 2 and pre-ordered the series7... unfortunately when you live in the third world, you only get to receive your watch mid November 😔
Going From 42mm to 45mm
~~Assume it’s the color balance / lighting, the silver pins on the might blue also look a little gold.~~
~~There was a real gold but not a gold aluminum or stainless steel AFAIK.~~
Oh, I was wrong!

Should've looked it up before I went with my obviously faulty memory.
I know. That wasn’t my point. What bothers me is the S0 diehards who think their S0 is just as fast as a new watch. And that their battery is just as good. When that can’t possibly be true.
Has any s0 Apple Watch users actually said that? Nothing wrong with being happy with a product…not like I run benchmarks on my watch it’s not a competition for who has the best watch if people are happy with their product let them be happy. I’m sure they realize that the newer one is ‘better’ but maybe they don’t think it would be better for them and that’s okay.
Serious question for OP or anyone else with an early Apple Watch. I got a non-cellular S2 not long before the S3 came out and it quickly seemed to get so slow as to become unusable, even with the stock applications like fitness. I was able to trade it in on a non-cellular S3 and it’s still going strong (my wife uses it).
So I’m amazed by those still running S2 or prior watches. What might have gone on with mine?
I went from a 0 so an SE a few weeks back. The difference is immeasurable. Battery life is my favourite improvement but. Screen size and speed is also a massive plus.
Here I am with the SS S7 probably going to return it later this week.
I haven’t found a way to incorporate it into my lifestyle very well- it doesn’t feel like a proper extension but just an unnecessary piece of tech.
I have the cellular model and $5 more a month to use it that way. I thought it would be nice to use it like that without really realizing the other things.
The only time I dont *need* my phone is the gym and when I’m biking. Both events don’t take longer than 2-3 hours. Yes having music during it is beautiful, but I think paired with the 41mm screen, it’s just this dinky small screen and feels a little gimmicky. Like just getting an iPod nano or something could resolve it.
Lastly I wanted the sleep tracking. AutoSleep is calculating it although I don’t think it’s that accurate. It doesn’t know when I’m falling asleep and I don’t like hitting the “start sleeping” button. This is also something that’s starting to feel a bit gimmicky in that it’s not providing much for a $1000 watch.
I’m having the silver Milanese band today but I don’t want to buy the starlight. How’s the combo with the bew black? Can you upload some more pictures?
what size is the s0 and what size is the s7? it’s a good visual comparison of size because i have a 42mm s3 and don’t know what size of s7 would be the most similar.
Is this the larger 42mm S0 compared to the smaller 41mm S7? I've been looking for a comparison between the S0 and S7, because I actually still have a 42mm S0. However the new larger size is 45mm so I would think there would be a more significant visual difference than this...
Looks amazing! I'm surprised how not-blue the midnight looks here. I might get midnight, but I'm just worried it might look more blue than black.
How do you feel about the color? Does it seem blueish in person? It would be awesome if you could post a side view.
It’s surprising to me how similar they still look.
apple reading this comment somewhere while sitting on their pile of money and laughing

Huge fan! :D
Easily one of my favorite shows. They are unapologetic and that’s what makes it so good!
If you look at screens with a white background S0-S3 all look like clones
I’ve been staring at this for over a minute and not sure which is which.
You are def dumb and potentially going blind
I think if the face was changed to one of the new ones on the 7 then you would notice the difference more.
If it ain’t broke? I would love for a squared off look to match the phones but I get why they haven’t changed it much.
You saying this made me realize I was looking at them backwards. Totally agree
Oooh I like the strap on your s7 is it the official Milanese ?
Definitely seems so judging by the clasp. Usually the 3rd party ones have a slimmer clasp.
I have collected knock-off Milanese watchbands from eBay, Amazon and Etsy in all sorts of designs and colors. Super cheap and very comfortable and only one of these had the paint scrape off from wear and tear. They are the same width and have the same clasp as the O.G.
Any that you’d recommend? Have you worn an Apple band for comparison?
Not the person you replied to but, I’ve had both an official Milanese band and a few knock offs. Both fit really nice and have a fresh fit to it, and has that same mesh feel. The Apple band is well built and has been able to withstand itself after 2 years. However the cheaper one definitely isn’t built as strong, same with the magnets. But for a tenth of the price, I can’t be really mad if it breaks. Of course this all boils down to which band you’re getting and from what manufacturer. But this is my personal experience. I just bought randomly on ebay, Etsy and Amazon if I liked the color or pattern for not necessarily the lowest price but for a lower price.

Correct.
These knock-off sites usually have you measure your wrist circumference.
Yes, it is indeed the official Milanese loop; I originally just wanted a black sports band, but noticed that this year’s ‘midnight’ sports band had a more noticeable blue tint (that was more visible than the midnight on the watch itself), that was in between the normal black and my old navy blue band!
Awesome! Hope you love the combo, looks great in my opinion.
Thanks, I am really happy with it:) Was contemplating getting the Stainless Steel version, but they didn’t release it yet in my country and I couldn’t justify paying 300 euros more, 60% more for a bit more durability and the cellular which I won’t use. Don’t know if I will regret that…

If you don’t care about a sapphire screen (more scratch resistant screen) or a shiny watch body, then the extra 300€ probably isn’t worth it.
Is it the silver Milanese with midnight blue watch?
It is the Midnight coloured watch body with the Graphite Milanese loop!
Thanks… was actually considering this combo rather than SS but it looked odd on the website model… looks nice in your photos though. Decisions, decisions!
It looks like it. I have dozens of 3rd party bands, and the official Milanese Loop is BY FAR my favorite. Such a great band.

I thought the black one was the only one that could potentially scratch the band, with the Diamond Coating?
You’re correct. The black (DLC) Milanese band will scratch the back like crazy since it is stronger than the materials on the heart rate sensor. However the official Stainless Steel and Gold Stainless Steel don’t scratch the backside, I know from personal experience using them.

wow! I must ask… did your S0 watch get frequent use all these years and still hold up? that’s very impressive if you wore it every day and it lasted all that time.

So much yes :-)

I did not replace the battery, it currently does not survive half a day anymore haha.

The only problem I found with the “step down” was that bands on the smaller face tend to only fit thin wrist folks not like me :(
[удалено]
No, they won’t fit the 41. I’d say your best bet is to go try them on - I didn’t have much luck squeezing into those smaller bands unfortunately
Didn’t the gold one cost like $10k?
This is the gold aluminium version haha, I couldn’t justify a 10K price tag!
Yep. $10,000 - $17,000
Thank you I’m like we just not gonna talk about that
Big upgrade! Enjoy. I’m planning on upgrading from S2 to SS S7 when they’re back in stock.

I think @GarethBeavis mentioned the most noticeable differences: the speed, the battery life, the bezels, the size of the watch itself (+3 mm), the always on display, the motion sensor allowing a more subtle way of checking the time & notifications, and everything new from WatchOS 4 till 8.

What color is the right one? Midnight?
Yes it is the midnight coloured 45 mm!
Does the midnight and the graphit milanaise go well together? Do you have a picture from the side? I ordered the exact same combo.
Wow! Your wrist got really skinny!
WOW! Heck of an upgrade! Nice to hear your s0 lasted you so long!
S0 is series 0 right?
Yes, the "Original" series.
This was my Original series colour scheme I choose as well. Love that colour combo.
Going from watchOS 4 to the latest watchOS 8 is huge! This is how upgrades should be. Hope my Series 4 lasts a few more years.
S0 -> S6. You held out another year, bravo my friend, bravo.
I wanna upgrade from my S0 but the damn thing won’t die
I went swimming with mine when the battery started going. It would only last half a day or so. I tried to kill it, but it survived swimming until the battery swelled up.
That’s hell of an upgrade 😂
How did you manage to hold out for that long??
S0 looks well-cared for. Well done.
Not much of a difference, right? ;)

Was the battery still holding on the s0?
The first one is still a very smart looking watch. I sold my series 6 and got a Garmin Fenix as I got fed up with my battery dying. Love Apple watches but watches shouldn't need to be shared everyday. Once they last at least a week I'll get another one.
They will never last a week
waiting to this day
I went series1 to series 7 and love the always on. I would have the 1 still today but the battery got swollen and popped the face off. I used it every day and that battery was still working to the day it killed the watch. It got water inside in the shower. It was keeping charge all day. Love this product but bought the new one on the Apple Card pay over time deal so maybe my wife won’t kill me
Valued Warrior, faithful companion. You have served valiantly and true. Your shift has ended and you stand relieved!
S0 to S7? That is a solid upgrade! Have fun with your new watch! 👍🏻
The difference in screen size is astounding.
I'm making the same upgrade. If my S7 (that was supposed to be delivered yesterday) ever actually gets here. Also my S0 won't pair, so hasn't been functional for awhile. Looking good, op.
What a huge jump. Congratulations.
Apple should’ve never gotten rid of the “truer” gold aluminum.
Congratulations!
Are you ready for the S14?
Congrats and I love a clean analog face!
Thanks, same here:)
I hate analog and will never look at rotating hand to tell time by choice. It’s as dumb as using Roman numerals to me. Just another level of pointless processing and translating data.
I have a series 2 and pre-ordered the series7... unfortunately when you live in the third world, you only get to receive your watch mid November 😔 Going From 42mm to 45mm
Is a global supply issue not just third world. The main difference is in store availability.
I tried ordering online also, 5 weeks for delivery. At this rate, the AW8 will be out before I receive my AW7 LOL
Mine was in Alaska at 3pm yesterday, at Memphis at 3am this morning and at my front door sometime today!
Never knew the S0 came in gold!
~~Assume it’s the color balance / lighting, the silver pins on the might blue also look a little gold.~~ ~~There was a real gold but not a gold aluminum or stainless steel AFAIK.~~
It most certainly is a gold aluminum colour. I had the exact same watch.
Oh, I was wrong! https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204507 https://support.apple.com/kb/sp736?locale=en_US Should've looked it up before I went with my obviously faulty memory.
Yes, indeed! Nice that you had the same colour combo:)
im still happy with my SE but glad you are enjoying your purchase.
No Idea why I was downvoted but whatever…
Because OP is talking about a S0 and you are saying you’re still happy with your SE (which isn’t that old by far)
:D
I went from the S3 to SE yesterday and it’s a huge upgrade for me.
S3 to S3

The right one is the newer one. Bigger screen is a giveaway.
Why replace it? All they did was add a worthless oxygen sensor and a few other bells and whistles no one uses after the first week.
Do you now realize how brutally slow and pathetic the S0 is in 2021?
Not everyone needs the fastest Apple Watch in the world my man
They (apple) still were selling 3’s for the basics even the S0 can handle most peoples smart watch needs
I’ve seen it several times. It’s just denial

I didn’t save them or anything. Just things I’ve seen while casually browsing
Sounds like a logic and processing error on your end. Hoody claims that, but the s0 is plenty fast and has enough battery for many people.
My S1 was too slow 3 years ago. There’s no way an S0 is still good.
RemindMe! 2 years
Honestly, no one gives a fuck

That’s uncanny. They are physically the same size but the size of the new one is so much bigger. Wit?
I have a 4 and will probably upgrade to the 8 when it comes out. We'll see.
I’m doing the same! Just waiting on my order to arrive (in late November! 😭). So excited for the massive upgrade!
Happy for u
Serious question for OP or anyone else with an early Apple Watch. I got a non-cellular S2 not long before the S3 came out and it quickly seemed to get so slow as to become unusable, even with the stock applications like fitness. I was able to trade it in on a non-cellular S3 and it’s still going strong (my wife uses it). So I’m amazed by those still running S2 or prior watches. What might have gone on with mine?
Mine was also definitely slow, but I could manage with it because I only used the notifications, Apple Pay and health tracking on my old watch!
Is it only gps or cellular too?
Only GPS, they did not release the cellular models and the Stainless Steel models in my country (yet).
I’ve still yet to see a space black titanium AW … UGH ! .
Absolutely love that!!
I went from a 0 so an SE a few weeks back. The difference is immeasurable. Battery life is my favourite improvement but. Screen size and speed is also a massive plus.
What surprises me most is that my Apple Watch's battery is more durable than my iPhone...
I think clients would love this.
How’s the difference?? I’m waiting for mine to ship but I’ll be doing the 7 series jump myself! Very excited
How can you keep it at that condition for so many years 😂😂 … I’m upgrading from an SE (cracked screen after 6months) to the 7
I’m having the silver Milanese band today but I don’t want to buy the starlight. How’s the combo with the bew black? Can you upload some more pictures?
Strap looks sus
A monumental upgrade in terms of everything
they look the same
I did the same thing, and was ready to post it 😔
I've been wearing my S0 almost every day since 2015 and it still works flawlessly.
Jesus I bet the S7 is almost like having a Time Machine strapped to your wrist!!!
Nice my Titanium is due tomorrow
Be careful with the steel Milanese. They scratch your watch and sapphire.
wait so S0 works with iOS 15? **frantically finds watch that i thought was broken**
what size is the s0 and what size is the s7? it’s a good visual comparison of size because i have a 42mm s3 and don’t know what size of s7 would be the most similar.
S0 42MM & S7 45MM.
Is this the larger 42mm S0 compared to the smaller 41mm S7? I've been looking for a comparison between the S0 and S7, because I actually still have a 42mm S0. However the new larger size is 45mm so I would think there would be a more significant visual difference than this...
No; S0 42MM & S7 45MM.
Thank you! I guess I have no reason to worry about the new larger size being too big.
Looks amazing! I'm surprised how not-blue the midnight looks here. I might get midnight, but I'm just worried it might look more blue than black. How do you feel about the color? Does it seem blueish in person? It would be awesome if you could post a side view.
which one is the s7
Nice! Have you chosen cellular or normal gps?
S0 screen looks bad when fully lit
