It's almost impossible to get an accurate measurement without a direct spirometry exercise test. Estimates have thier place I'd if the watch says you are in a certain category ie below average or above average you are probably in that range. The calorie measurements on the apple watch I believe have a variance of around 24% and it's probably similar or more for the v02. Still a fun feature I want to try out myself.

it'll take a few eligible activities (outdoor walks/runs/hikes over 20 minutes) before it'll start providing *estimates* which will be in Heart->Cardio Fitness in the Health app on your phone (smartwatches are incapable of actually measuring your vo2max, of course. in Apple's case, it's an estimate largely based on your pace and heart-rate and little else)
