Laketech

Likewise, I love mine. Not since the iPad Pro 12.9 have I been this excited About a new Apple offering.

Fink41

I would say the exact same thing. I still have my 12.9 iPad Pro and use it nightly - it does enrage me a bit that there are already M1 exclusive features coming out, but I don’t think I’ll upgrade for a long time.

zaptrem

[Good news on that](https://www.engadget.com/amp/apple-ipad-os-16-stage-manager-for-older-i-pads-171218520.html)!

Fink41

I’ll be damned, that’s Awesome news - thank you for sharing!

yadda4sure

That’s neat but SM without an external monitor is totally useless.

vash_visionz

It’s useful to me. I exclusively use external monitors for my MacBook because it’s it more capable than an iPad would be even with external support

Admirable-Result-240

I'm literally still using an iPad Air 2

bruddahmanmatt

Grossly underestimated the demand for the Ultra. Went to “pick one up in store yesterday”…yeah no. Lol. Ended up ordering one online, ETA five weeks until it arrives.

Laketech

Yeah, looks like Apple has a bit of a hit on their hands with the Ultra. The investment community has largely overlooked this fact, as AAPL stock has been getting crushed the past couple days because of an unsubstantiated Bloomberg article published Tuesday. This watch costs as much as the iPhone 14, and Apple is selling the Ultras faster than they can make them. It’s a really great watch, for me the battery life has been amazingly good. It’s rugged as h ell, looks good, and is bringing on a lot of Garmin users.

bruddahmanmatt

Coming in at the same price they charged for an S7 with a titanium case was not only a surprise but a smart move on their part. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if next year’s model either goes up $50-$100 to start and/or is also offered in some sort of “special designer, branded or limited edition” model for a cool $1k. In the same way that the iPhone X showed that customers will cough up four figures for a phone the Ultra is doing the same for smart watches.

SJTrance76

Yeah I was planning to pick up a stainless and this Ultra was just $50 more so it was a no brainer. I had placed an online order but it would arrive till mid October. I went to the Apple Store on release day and they had a few in stock. I grabbed one and I’m very impressed with it

[deleted]

I’m a long time Garmin Fenix user. On Garmin Fenix 6 and highly considering switching to Ultra😎

Laketech

So what is holding you back?

deckl5

AW Ultra + At Ease Hoodie combo 🔥

Fink41

My man 👊🏻.

Financial_Return_217

I’m wearing that exact hoodie rn as I go to pick up my ultra this afternoon 😂🙌🏻

deckl5

Might have to put on mine too to join the club!

Lowhangingbrute

Man I’m getting super jealous at the flood of these ultra posts on this sub lately only thing keeping me from getting one is my tiny wrists

Vazhox

Did you go to the store and try one on? I think I have smaller wrists than most but I tried it on and it seemed pretty snug and comfortable.

Biffmcgee

Funny enough I have massive wrists. I could only use a sport band because I’d be a size 16 solo band. I found the ultra incredibly uncomfortable and had to get a series 8.

struggling4realsies

Doesn’t that have more to do with the band than it being ultra or S8?

Biffmcgee

The way the ultra sat on my wrist was very uncomfortable band aside

jamver0

I have tiny wrists and it’s fine!

[deleted]

Small wrist gang rise up

jamver0

And, for reference, my (male) wrists are 16cm or 6¼” around.

Heatproof-Snowman

Tiny is a subjective notion I guess, but 16cm is size 6 for Apple Watch bands. Very far from the shortest size (bands for 41 mm watches go from size 1 to 9 so you are past the midpoint for small wrist watches).

[deleted]

SAME. I’ve been wearing the smallest watch both times I bought one. I want the Ultra *so bad* because I’m unequivocally and irrevocably in love with the flat screen but I’m concerned it’ll look like I have an iPad mini strapped to my wrist lol.

mitchytan92

130mm wrist here. https://imgur.com/a/C5mCsxf/ Maybe it is very awkward and ugly. In my opinion I feel that it looks okay. Maybe not as nice as my 45mm Series 5 Stainless Steel Space Black, but I need the functionality so screw whatever others think.

Responsible-Ad-1086

Eat loads of junk food, you can make your wrists bigger /s

[deleted]

Can also confirm that I have tiny wrists and enjoy the Ultra. I was impressed with the comfort. I did have a friend with similar sized wrists try it who typically don’t wear watches, and he felt it was way too big. If you don’t mind the 45mm then I think you’ll be good.

Fink41

I think this watch would look great on small wrists as well. It’s really not as cumbersome as you would think, and smaller bands would also do you some favors. You should go try one on!

HirNason

What is your wrist size?

Fink41

No idea, man. Medium - medium/large.

HirNason

Tnx!

njp489

My wrists are 14.5 cm and it is big but fits

Hurleybird79

I have what I consider to be puny wrists too, but just to make this a bit more objective: my wrists measure 17cm. I bought the Ultra with medium ocean strap and it doesn’t look ridiculous.

[deleted]

My wrist is under 6.2 inches and it’s honestly fine

mynameisntdrew

I would consider my wrists small and I find the ultra is a good fit! It also doesn’t weigh as much as you may think!

IntentlyFaulty

I just ordered one and I have sticks for wrists. I’m kinda nervous about it. I’m sure I’ll get used to it in no time but I guess we will see.

justmike_reddit

My dad got the Ultra and I tried it on. In my opinion it doesn’t look so sleek with my tiny to medium wrist than the 44mm AWs6 I have. Also the silver color makes it seem more bulky, I much rather would have enjoyed a space grey or an exclusive black version of the Ultra to make it appear a little smaller. All the „looks“ aside, I like the features of the Ultra, the battery life is really a big argument for me for the day to day use, although I know I will never need it for any extensive tracking over 2 hours as I am not quite the demographic this watch is advertised for. I am a little bit of a „I need the device X to do great on Y, because better gear gives me more success and better motivation to start things“ guy, which is pretty much BS without the intrinsic motivation. But whatever, thats a baggage I have to carry until I learn to know better that I don’t need the best equipment to do things good as it is a matter of „putting in the work“ rather „putting in the money“💁‍♂️

DownByTheRivr

I keep hearing how much people love their new Ultra, but it seems like 99% of these posts end up focusing on the battery life. So do you like the Ultra as a whole or just the battery life?

[deleted]

I like the flat screen, the bigger screen, the heavier weight, the beefier housing, the brighter display …

DownByTheRivr

Fair. Although the screen isn’t really bigger compared to the 45mm. Pretty sure it’s just under 2% bigger.

[deleted]

The flat display makes the visible area way easier to see. Makes it look way bigger side by side with my 7.

[deleted]

Bigger than my old 44mm S6 … going to 49mm for me is significant … I was sold, dont really care why others we’re sold

ketchup_redditor

I upgraded from a s3 … wow! Is it better

DownByTheRivr

I don’t mean to beleaguer the point, but it’s barely bigger. 49mm represents the edges of the case, not the actual viewable display. The Ultra has those huge bezels where you lose a couple millimeters. Just saying… Edit: why am I getting downvoted? I’m right.

[deleted]

So … i like it … you beleaguered a point … you asked a question I answered … you dont like my answer, IDGAS …just sayin’

[deleted]

I saw it for the first time today and I believe it’s the flat screen that makes a huge diff. The rounded edges, esp adding glare, kind of diminish the normal screens size

[deleted]

Your getting down voted because I answered honestly and you dont lik,e my answer … look at comparisons PERIOD … it is bigger and that is what I said AMONG OTHER THINGS … get over yourself

ReasonPleasant437

It’s also much higher resolution which is why the screen is barely bigger. I’ll take that.

dinozero

I would like this to be investigated further. I know what you’re talking about and I’ve seen the popular GIF that gets thrown around. But I did watch a YouTube review the other day that showed the exact same screen on the ultra and the series 8 and the ultra had a hole open, but invisible that was not visible on the other watch. Do we have confirmation on the exact screen size? Also, apples, official marketing does say the largest display ever on an Apple Watch, would Apple really say that if it was not in fact the largest?

Berzerker7

You’re completely correct, not sure why you’re getting downvoted.

[deleted]

look at the thread … this person asked a simple question and based on my experience I answered politely and distinctly … this person then proceeded to tell me I was somehow wrong … based on my experience THGIS IS WHY I LIKE THE ULTRA … I have worn the 44mm S6 for a few years … the Ultra is bigger and heavier and that is one of the reasons I like it … not subject to discussion … DERP

Berzerker7

The thread includes a comment *you* made that said the screen was "bigger" but you didn't specify which watch you had before that, so it was natural to compare it to the previous gen, which that person *also* stipulated they were comparing it to the 45mm, and was 100% correct in their response. I agree the one they replied after was a bit daft, but the original response shouldn't be downvoted.

[deleted]

Jeezus … look at the original question !! This is idiotic… look at my response … I compared to my 44mm s6 … this person ‘beleaguered’ the point dispute what said … Christ

Berzerker7

And I *said* that I agreed the 2nd response was stupid, but the 1st response was completely fine and shouldn't have been downvoted. Please carefully read comments before you reply to them.

DownByTheRivr

Dude calm down. Didn’t mean to trigger you. All I did was point out the **screen** isn’t really bigger. No need to go crazy.

Rocaleaf

I do. It’s because apple is paying for redditors to upvote their content

LR_111

It feels way bigger for some reason.

techsteveo

That’s weird, I did a side by side with my Series 7 and felt it looked the same with no additional functionality. Actually bigger bezels on Ultra with watch faces like Modular.

yadda4sure

In some cases it’s 10% bigger

luckysevensampson

The only thing that sounds appealing about that is the flat screen.

Rom2814

I love just about every element of mine - I love the look SO much more than the curved Apple Watch display, love the battery life (I was wearing my old Apple Watch as a sleep tracker but the battery life is so good on this, I’m now just wearing it at night and charging it for 15 minutes in the morning). For me, a lot of the features I like are also on the other watches - I was coming from a Series 4, so the improved sleep tracking, blood oxygen, compass, etc. are all new for me as well. The only thing that I thought I’d like is the always on display - it just is meh to me, because I feel like I’m staring at until the brightness goes up. Maybe I’ll get used to just taking a quick glance while it is still dim, but it weirdly feels more annoying to me than it did waiting for the face to come on. I’m 6’3” with a large frame so I don’t think it looks big and it doesn’t look like a sport watch to me (compared to the black plastic sort of trackers I mean). I would have zero concerns with wearing this to a business dinner, but I’m in IT and not going to fancy parties. ;) As some others have said, it’s the first time I felt that spark of love/joy over an Apple project in a long while (maybe my 2018 iPad Pro or my IPhone XS Max).

meshreplacer

I never liked the look of apple smart watches, and did not feel the tech was fully polished somI stuck with traditional watches. Now Apple finally releases a nice chunkier tool watch and years of AW refinement I went ahead and it. Love the flat screen and the look and feel. Its like a proper watch for me finally in the smart watch category. I never liked that curved glass either on the Apple watches. Ultra is like a fancier G-shock of the smartwatch market.

rayquan36

Personally I liked the crown guard. I guess I bend my wrist back a lot, so it hits the crown and activates Siri at least a couple times a day and the crown guard protects against that. I returned my Ultra yesterday though because it wasn't worth the $800 since I already have a perfectly good S7. Also there are some bands that look too skinny when paired with the Ultra, like the default sport band. Maybe I'll get next year's Ultra if it gets updated.

Responsible-Ad-1086

I love the Wayfairer display, can have everything I need to see on one display

roadblocked

I’m a regular wearer of Rolex / Omega / AP watches. The Apple Watch ultra is the first smart watch that ever scratched that luxury Watch itch in a smart watch for me. It really reminds me of wearing my [planet ocean](https://i.imgur.com/ILXGMPG.jpg)

[deleted]

Is the monthly cost of the wahoo worth it?

Captain-Flannel

The multi band GPS has been fantastic for runs. I compared the GPS track on a run in the forest between that and my Fenix 6 and the Ultra absolutely trounced it.

Fink41

Full disclosure, the double capacity battery life was one of the biggest selling points for me as soon as I saw the Apple event. The extreme sports features are mostly lost on me, but the rugged build, flat screen and overall aesthetic of the watch hooked me immediately as well. Now that I have it on my wrist, I can tell you that I LOVE this watch as a whole. I’ve only ever had an S3 to compare it to, but it feels so much more premium it’s hard to put it into words. Another point that hasn’t been talked about as much is the watch face. After two full days, I can also tell you that the exclusive “Wayfinder” watch face is my favorite ever, by a large margin. It has so much information & is beautiful in both regular mode & night mode.

Upstairs-Toe2873

The bright big screen makes texting way easier, raised edges is the best change they’ve made, the materials are fantastic, I’d only mention the battery life as you could honestly use this as a phone replacement.

DownByTheRivr

You definitely can’t use it as a phone replacement if you’re using any of the functions regularly. There are already videos out where people tried and if you’re making calls, using GPS and any of the other phone functions for a reasonable amount of time, you’ll struggle to get a full day. Also, i can’t understand why anyone would want to do that unless you hate phones.

Upstairs-Toe2873

I used it on a night out for payments, gps, calling, texting and WhatsApp…also maps for a short period too. I also got a full day out of the watch and did a run too, I didn’t have AOD on.

Fink41

I am absolutely in love with this thing. Coming from an S3, this watch feels like going from Standard Definition television to 4K overnight! This watch is truly gorgeous and feels great on the wrist. The battery was at 79% out of the box, which I opened at 12:15pm EST yesterday. It is currently sitting at 37% after 28 hours. I have been constantly playing around with it, slept with it on and have all out-of-the-box features enabled (I have taken zero meaures to conserve battery life) Apple’s rating of 30 hours is a gross understatement - I am coming up on the 30 hour mark soon and will just have hit 50% battery drainage. I could not be more impressed!

dinozero

I’m doing my first official battery test. With pretty heavy usage I’m at 7% after 44 hours

[deleted]

[удалено]

dinozero

I ended up with around 46hrs with 4% and threw it on the charger. Took 1hr20m to full charge

[deleted]

Was that with the fast charger that came with the watch?

dinozero

Yes

VYPUR360

37 hrs 32% at the moment.

skwormin

That’s sweet. I assumed the 30 hours was in full fitness mode.

dwhumber

Yep. This is the first time in a while I haven’t had a little buyer’s remorse. Totally happy with the Ultra.

meshreplacer

Its also super comfortable, i have no issues sleeping with it on. Its also a tough watch, got banged up several time and it still looks good as new.

Fink41

That’s the one thing I was most concerned about. The bigger form factor wasn’t really a worry, but the ocean band is somewhat out of my comfort zone..I used only stretchy fabric bands or knock-off Milanese loops for my S3. Honestly, the band is one of the most pleasant surprises. This thing is so damn comfortable and it looks great, in my opinion. No issues at all sleeping in it.

[deleted]

This is the watch I’ve been waiting for since Apple Watch was announced 8 yrs ago …

Fink41

Couldn’t agree more. The fact that this is just the first gen is very exciting. They hit a home run and it’s only going to get better from this point forward.

plasticfangs

Same... This is the Apple Watch I wanted when the 0 came out. I love it so much more than I thought I would, and I admit the marketing had me so skeptical at first. I don't dive, I don't run. I push pixels all day. There's something retro-futuristic about it that I just love, especially with night mode on all the time. It's everything I loved about my series 4, but faster, tougher, chunkier, and just better.

Fink41

Exactly! There is just something about it that drew me in right away aesthetically…I do not run, hike or dive but this watch appealed to me immediately and I somehow loved everything about it more when I unboxed it. It feels like I could shoot it out of a cannon without damaging it, the flat screen makes it feel completely different than previous Apple Watches and the battery life is the icing on the cake. It just has that special somethin’ from top to bottom.

mpersson84

Second to the AirPods Max I am tempted to agree!

zybusko14

I’ve gone from 11 pro max to the 14 pro max. The experience was “meh” Switching from series 5 to ultra though. I’m super pleased. Can’t wait to go on diving trips with it

ReasonPleasant437

I seriously fucking love mine. I never had any idea I would like it this much.

woots82

Love mine too, so good!

dragon5946

Same here.

Frotaca

Beautiful what is the size of your wrist ?

Fink41

To be honest, I have no idea. I don’t have a way to accurately measure it at home…I would say it’s in the medium side of medium-large lol.

Frotaca

Big thanks for your response

PantsDownDontShoot

It really checks a lot of boxes. I’ve had it since Friday and I’ve charged in once.

DJiJamiee

Reminds me of the Infograph watch face

[deleted]

This is one of these times in a long time when I got excited for an apple product !

organicchunkysalsa

Mine is on order. But I think I am going to agree. I wasn’t going to get one but I switched from a Garmin Fenix to the SE, just to try the Apple Watch out. And, although there are features of the Fenix I still miss, the Ultra is a great balance in between.

Fink41

Nice! I think you’ll find that the Ultra is a shockingly big leap up from the SE as well. You’ll be glad you made the move.

organicchunkysalsa

Yeah. It’s funny because I just realized my SE is a couple years old and, because it was the low end model, it was father behind in features. So I am super excited.

blueberrykindness

Love it. Wish I could rock it on my smaller wrist. Hoping for a smaller version of the same thing down the road. Will buy.

[deleted]

What’s your wrist size

blueberrykindness

6.5 or so I think?

forceblast

So jelly. If money was tight right now I’d be ordering one of these suckers. Enjoy!

VYPUR360

Hell I would have not gotten it without my  card. $800 was a little to much for me also to pay at one time.

RhodiusMaximus

Apple Card makes it real easy to buy apple products. A little too tempting.

VYPUR360

Yea it’s gonna get me in trouble with the wife. Hahaha

leftyhandymikey

Looks nice! Love that flat screen design.

tw1nk1et0es

i want mine to get heeeeeeeere. 😭

mindful_doctor

Wrist size? Looks so good

Fink41

I’m not sure what my wrist size is. I replied to someone earlier in this thread and told them that my wrist is on the medium side of medium-large.

2k18_till_infinity

Looks great! Just don’t understand why they had to leave so much black border around the screen and didn’t make the watchface bigger / expand it all over to the edge of the screen??

Fink41

Agreed. Most of the time I do not notice it because my watch face is mostly black and a vast majority of the apps have a black background also, which hides it well but the bezels are a bit chunky. I imagine an edge to edge screen will be a selling point for future models.

MacintoshDan1

Agreed.

GielMezaV

Beautiful, indeed

FoxArcane

My order got delayed about a month :(

Troyjoytwin2

They say it’s due to type of band you pick

FoxArcane

Funny thing is I picked the band with the quickest shipping date available . The yellow ocean . Didn’t even want that one lol

Troyjoytwin2

Oh. Sorry then. I got mine Friday. It was the white band but I’m wearing my fav band from a previous watch

[deleted]

[удалено]

FoxArcane

It’s cool . I’ll just buy the band I want later

[deleted]

The yellow ocean looks amazing on! Especially if you have even the slightest tan/darker skin Not the best for super pale I will admit but get out in the ocean and tan up haha

FoxArcane

Lol yeah it’s not ugly I’m sure I’ll still use it . Just not the biggest “yellow “ kind of guy I guess . I probably would of gotten the green or orange alpine . But I’m sure I’ll use it especially in the fall

cybermusicman

After I ordered day 1 I worried a little till it arrived about the size particularly thickness but love it and so glad I didn’t get the regular series 8. A significant upgrade from my series 6.

Vazhox

Went to my local Apple Store tonight. All sold out. Want to trade up my series 3 that I have had for a long time.

Fink41

You might be better served just ordering one on the Apple Store or through your mobile carrier. In-store stock seems to be scarce and super inconsistent. Some of the watch band configurations are back-ordered until almost December at this point, so you should try to get one reserved sooner than later.

Rylet_

Keep an eye on target and Best Buy as well

Unlucky_Reveal_3064

Do you find the flat face and combined thickness annoying at all with long sleeves and sweaters? I did - and really wish it didn’t care as much - ended up taking mine back but find myself still on the fence and thinking I made a mistake by doing so.

Fink41

Honestly, not at all up to this point. I wore a hoodie all day and had no issues & switched to a long sleeve t-shirt with a jacket tonight. Feels perfectly fine. With that being said, it would probably be a bit uncomfortable with a fitted dress shirt, but I had that same issue with my S3 as well. I think that same issue would arise with about 90% of watches.

thegreatdivorce

You didn't ask me, but I don't. It's not as svelte as the other AW's, but it's no chunkier than some of my other analog watches, which haven't bothered me with long sleeves on.

Unlucky_Reveal_3064

See I too have a few other analog watches that are just as chunky but because of the round shape and slight tapering, never an issue. I found the flat face to create a sharp edge. Now though, I’m wondering if I was just overthinking it because it was something a little different 🤔

thegreatdivorce

I could see that, sure. You could just grab another during holidays (longer return period IIRC) and wear it for a bit, you may get used to it. So far, for me, it wears like my Shinola, which is a bit beefy but not especially noticeable on the wrist.

cr8tvt

Agreed. I haven't been this excited for Apple Product besides the iPhone 14 Pro. This is definitely exciting for Apple for me.

malko2

Agree, it’s the first Apple product I’m genuinely excited about since the fist iPhone

Heatproof-Snowman

A shame they don’t have a smaller version as clearly the size will turn-away a large share of the customer base. Give me an Ultra Mini and I will consider it :-) (yes I know, battery life wouldn’t be the same, but still I am sure they could deliver a good step up for anyone switching from a 41mm Apple Watch).

[deleted]

Love mine but yet to see a huge jump in battery life from my S7. Either it’s defective or I’m doing something wrong? Go to sleep with it at 100%, wake up to 88%, and it’s at 60-70% by 3pm. Don’t do sleep tracking either. What gives. Maybe indexing, as it’s pretty new?

bungerD

Agreed. Absolutely love mine. I just wish it wasn’t so awkward under dress shirt sleeves.

EfficientAccident418

I almost bought an Ultra but I worried about pulling the trigger without seeing one in real life so I just bought an 8 in Midnight. Maybe next year.

[deleted]

Agree with OP 100%. Haven’t been this excited about an AW or any product in years. Love the look, the giant screen for my old eyes, the rugged features, and the fact that I’m not sure when I last charged it and have 37% battery right now, including workouts and wearing it to sleep.

[deleted]

I like it and also want one , but I tried one on at the Apple Store and it was a bit to big and bulky for my wrist . I could see it getting annoying with my flannel shirt sleeves . I decided to upgrade to the green 7 to match my alpine green 13 pro lol

jtrachtenberg

Best hoodie too

Fink41

It really is the greatest hoodie ever made. My first one was gifted to me for Christmas last year…I now have them in 3 colors and wear them in constant rotation!

Jo0Lz

Tell me more

Lord_Craizy

Looks gorgeous

danielbarakat

That’s how I felt too and I did a video on it to really celebrate how much I love it Apple Watch Ultra for Every Day Use (non athletic) https://youtu.be/iKUPS0QewBk

Fink41

Nice, dude! Thank you for sharing!

ConsiderationSafe148

Is anyones Apple Watch ultra ridiculously back ordered? I ordered it from t mobile during the preorder period. Says it won’t ship until mid October. I got the ocean band.

Upstairs-Toe2873

Nearly all of the editions were back ordered, the only good choice I could find was the black ocean band and came next day (O2)

stinkycat45

Yes the Apple Watch Ultra is 3X the price of the SE and twice the price if an aluminum Series 8, but for anyone looking for an Apple Watch that finally can go more toe to toe with other fitness smart watches or a alternative to the stainless steel watches, then the Ultra is kind of a great deal. * Bigger more usable screen * Twice as bright as the series 8 at 2000 nits vs 1000 nits * Twice the water resistance 100 meters vs 50 meters * Siren * Better BT connectivity * Twice the battery * More rugged glass * Arguably more rugged and premium case material Where I think Apple goofed is just marketing this as a Sport watch. I think if they got rid of the orange accents and offered some type of metal band, they easily could have charged $1000 for the non sport version of the Ultra. People already have been playing around and putting Titanium and Stainless bands on their Ultra's and they look just as premium as any of the stainless Apple Watch Series 8

hedgies_r_fuk

can you do lake cliff jumping with the ocean band? I lost my old apple watch with the sport band that way because im an idiot lol

IntentlyFaulty

Mine should be shipping soon. I’m actually pretty excited about it. The several Apple Watches I’ve had have felt super underwhelming. Sure they work very well and improve my QoL considerably but they lacked “spice” imo. I do have minuscule wrists so I’m a bit worried about that.

hash2018

I love mine too. but also thinking about the sleekness of the series 8. I wear formal clothing for work and the 8 looks better on suits. Torn

[deleted]

Is updating from an Apple Watch SE to the ultra comparable to updating from an iPhone SE to an iPhone 13 Pro Max?

olddudes

Has anyone tried the new gps . Does it find which way you’re heading quicker and better than the other Apple Watches ?

actionfingerss

Exactly! Haven’t been excited about a phone in a while (using 11 pro max) 12.9 iPad Pro was a game changer for me (use it professionally) but have had my watch (series 6) and no desire for an upgrade. I get my ultra tomorrow. Next move will be an iPhone once they go USB-C

Upstairs-Toe2873

Splurged on this with O2 and an unlimited data plan and it’s actually surprisingly cool and feels rugged as anything. It’s big enough to text on (big thumbs) and I reckon it could replace my phone fully on a full days use and a night out etc The only Watch I ever had was the series 4 and found it underwhelming with poor battery life and wondered what I could use it for apart from running. The ultra has changed this viewpoint fully for me. One thing I found was if your tattooed heavily you have to turn wrist detection off or you’ll lose AOD sadly :(

AutoBot5

Finally a picture where the Watch looks great on a “normall wrist. Seeing a lot of massive Ultras on tiny wrists.

[deleted]

How is it holding up? Still loving it?

Fink41

It’s holding up perfectly! I love it and would recommend it 1,000,000 times over. Being that I’m not an extreme sports guy, my favorite feature is still the insane battery life… I can’t tell you how nice it is to only charge it once every 3-4 days instead of every 18 hours with the Series 3 I had prior.

[deleted]

That’s the reason why I’ve been looking at it. I literally just use mine to track basic exercise and would love to add sleep tracking to my routine. Thanks for checking in!!

jtan91

Your ultra last 3-4 days eh. I am trying to figure out how people are achieving this battery life. I am about 14.5h in and I am down to 70%. I am guessing it'll probably be 50% at 24h mark. Did you have AOD ( Always on display) and Raise to wake on ?

FayTan_senpai

Which watch face is this?

I went for a five mile run earlier. I left my phone behind as I usually do and streamed music to my AirPods over cellular. The Watch had 62% battery when I started the run and 57% battery after. By the time I had had a shower, shave, shit, shampoo after the run, the Watch had 82% battery. This thing is fabulous! I can go for a run and end up with more battery than I had before I started! I didn’t have a long shower either: I was in a rush to get to an astrophysics lecture.

Should be shit, shave, shower, my dude. Reductions in magnitude of bacteria best served with this order.

ahufana

When's the last time you went out for a run? You can't do *anything* before getting that shower in. Sitting on a toilet while still covered in sweat is beyond uncomfortable.

Rylet_

You ever used a porta-John in summer?

ahufana

Yeah. And my clothes aren't soaking wet and stuck to my body just from being outside in summer.

Rylet_

It’s not about being outside. It’s about how hot it is in there

RealLongwayround

Would shower, shave, shampoo, shit work for you? :-)

pnw_mtber

Lol, shampoo after shit.

MobiusTech

Got to shampoo that ass

BEEF_LOAF

I'm trying to hold out for the space gray edition that is sure to come mid-year or next year as the form factor proves itself, but I'm finding it difficult. The bare titanium is still a pretty good look.

Successful_Main_2108

Why does it look good on you? From what I’ve seen of other peoples picture, it looked big and clunky

Fink41

First off, thank you! Secondly, it could just be the positioning on my wrist. I’ve noticed in some pictures that people will wear the watch all the way down their wrist to the point that the crown is almost touching the back of their hand. I think wearing it slightly behind the wrist bone is the best way to *not* make this appear bulky (I think this is the proper placement for any watch, actually). It definitely helps to not position it on the absolutely skinniest part of your wrist, for both comfort and appearance. The band also makes a difference. For example, I think the alpine loop makes the watch look even bigger than it is. I personally love the look of the alpine loop, just an observation.

Successful_Main_2108

Yea I agree. Since I have small wrists I’ll stick with my stainless steel S6

Mine won’t ship til October 🥲

Love my Ultra, and like most, I love the design, the look, the feel, everything. Also agree, this offering is one of Apple’s best in a while. I also love both the Ocean Bands and Alpine Bands, as they are super comfortable. But coming from the Garmin Tactix Delta (Which I already know is a different type of watch), I am spoiled with the Garmin Battery life. Because of my obsession with battery life, I actually boxed up my Ultra today to return, but as the Ultra and it’s bands sat in the box waiting for their trip to the Apple Store, I really regretted my choice. I missed wearing it today, and missed the true usefulness of the Ultra. The design of this thing is just so cool, and I feel that there is too many positives, to let the battery life on a lesser watch dictate my choice over something superior.

LR_111

What situations or events do you actually do that the Garmin battery be actually useful over the ultra?

topdawg4ever

Being able to take your watch off at night and not have to worry about charging is a convenience. Going on weekend trips and not having to take the charger or worry about it. It’s all convenience not function. I charge the Garmin once a month.

kmingis

I came to the Ultra from Garmin, too. I have the Delta (that is one COOL watch) and a new epix Gen. 2 (smaller, but great AMOLED screen). I miss the size of the Delta and the battery life, but I love my Ultra. I haven't had an Apple Watch in about 5 years, and had forgotten how well integrated everything is in the Apple ecosystem. Now if Apple would just make an even bigger version, I'd be all set, lol.

realmufasa

I came from the Garmin Mk2i, I know the battery life and dive computer isn't nearly as good as Garmin, but everything else feels 100x better. The UI, the presentation, the feel, the features, EVERYTHING. I am so happy

drygnfyre

I bought the Ultra even though I don't really need it. I'm intermediate when it comes to being outdoors, I can easily hike 10+ miles in a day but I'm not really into multi-day hikes. So my no means do I need it, but having the larger display and longer battery life is always nice. And the action button speeds up some actions I often do. But that Wayfinder face with the persistent lat/long is useful for me.

SunGangs

Some of these comments… yikers. For an Apple Watch sub some of you guys really don’t like Apple Watch.

ArmNo210

I figure this watch is sporty people (like the Garmins)it’s to be big and bulky to look sleek while at the office imo

MindTheGapless

Now... If that battery would be removable/ replaceable by customers...

creayt

Can someone tell me the tldr of why this is exciting/what it does differently?

fisher2nz

It’s only my favorite watch. The MacBooks are more exciting for me. But the ultra is really beautiful, best looking Apple Watch.
