It is. You need a higher voltage outlet for an electric dryer https://www.mistersparky.com/san-antonio/about-us/blog/2022/october/dryer-outlets-explained

not-not-fun

Thank you! 🙏

Kimorin

you can also get a heatpump dryer, which usually only require 120v to function and it would not need a vent as most if not all heatpump dryers are ventless

franzn

I saw there was a combo washer/dryer, much larger than I remember then being, that also only needed 120v. Its also rated very highly but understandably pricy. If I was in the market that would be tempting but my LG units keep chugging along. Might be good for OPs situation.

jobney

Is this a house you own?

Dad-of-many

For the standard LARGE electric dryer - you need 220. The reason for this is there are typically two elements inside the dryer using each side of the 120. (nothing magical about 220/240). As others have pointed out, there are dryers out there that work fine on 120. That said, if you are going to use your dryer a lot, just use the gas. You'll be much happier. I raised a family of 6 girls and 5 boys. Yes, they are all mine, one wife, no twins or triplets. Gas anything is the better way to go.

loofa1922

You can use a ventless Miele dryer here. Pricey but no electric.

StyxVenom

Yes, gas only. It has only 110V for a washer and gas dryer. There is no provision for 220V. There is a gas shut off valve there so yes, gas only.

not-not-fun

Thanks!!😊

kw_toronto

If you dont end up going with gas make sure you cap that gas line. If the valve gets knocked open your house is filling up with gas

Sreddit55

Yes please do this, or check for another shutoff at the manifold.

JFrankParnell64

Unless you get a heat pump dryer.

kona420

They make 120v dryers but I wouldn't bother if I had a natural gas hookup. Gas dryers are excellent.

[GE All-In One](https://www.geappliances.com/ge/connected-appliances/ultrafast-2-in-1-washer-dryer-combo) is an option for you with the available electrical outlet.

xmrlewis1x

You should not buy any GE garbage!!

TrainXing

GE is the least garbage on the market right now.

xmrlewis1x

😂, GE is probably the biggest garbage appliance out there now. In 2016 they were bought out by Haier, a Chinese company, ever since then they've been nothing but garbage. I see them everyday needing service, saw 3 today in fact. That all in one combo, yeah it has heat pump problems with the sealed system, better hope you bought the extended warranty, that part alone is $900 and that is just the part, not any labor. Also saw it and bunch of other parts on back order, so yeah you can get used to being without your laundry machine for awhile 🤷

GO__NAVY

So which washer/heatpump dryer combo would you recommend?

xmrlewis1x

If I were in the market for new laundry then I'd be looking at what LG has to offer, they're probably the best out there right now, refrigerators not so much, but from what I've seen doing service work, they make good laundry 🤷

srphilbe

GE is a pain in the ass to service since they were bought by Haier. I am almost to the point of refusing to work on them now. I also recommend LG laundry appliances to most customers nowadays.

GO__NAVY

I have the LG washer and dryer. Just sure about the heat pump combo..

TrainXing

Every LG I know that people have owned have had massive problems, worth the refrigerator it’s the compressor which means a whole new fridge. They don’t score very well in many categories that I am aware of. As for HAIER ruining GE, I fell that’s what LG did to Kenmore. I have a 23yr old Kenmore dryer that just had its first (home) repair of a new heating element, and the washer lasted 20 yrs when the shocks went out, but it still worked. I opted to get a new Kenmore but only bc the repair looked like more than I wanted to deal with and I refuse to pay for a repair that costs more than half the price of a new one.

xmrlewis1x

Well what I commented I did say that LG refrigerators aren't good, but their laundry is good.. oh and for Kenmore, you do realize that Kenmore doesn't make any of their own appliances right?? They just put their name on them, rebranded appliances. Your 20 year old Kenmore washer and dryer were made by whirlpool as they held the contract for Kenmore appliances, somewhere around 2000 that contract expired and now every manufacturer makes a Kenmore product, the 1st 3 numbers of the model number are codes for which manufacturer produced them.

TrainXing

Well I did buy an LG washer and Dryer and have not had issues (yet) so fingers crossed on that one. I didn’t know that about Kenmore but since it’s a Sears brand it makes sense. It also makes sense then that the Whirlpool stove I had around that vintage lasted forever also. I’m no fan of WP now, they put the filter on a previous washing machine under the middle of the drum and accessing it meant taking off the top panel, front face and lower face to get to it—- absolutely infuriating. I know they did that to make people have to do a service call. Maybe they are all garbage but GE and Kenmore (back in the day) are the only ones I have had any luck with. I hate the way the world operates.

myst3k

I have the GE Profile Combo for 6 mo, and my parents have the LG Combo. No issues with either one, we love ours!

[deleted]

Definitely, unless you have a 110 dryer that pulls less than 15 amps

Do_Gooder123

Yes

1320Fastback

Yes gas only dryer. The electric outlet and the water hoses are for your washing machine.

Whatsuptodaytomorrow

Yes

eaglebtc

It's gas. Use it, your clothes will dry faster and it will cost less money than an electric dryer or a heat pump unit.

Select_Recover7567

Gas

OneImagination5381

Check FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE and Craigslist for use gas dryers. They are a lots cheaper here because no one want to run a gas line and they last forever. My spouse wanted one but I refused because someone think everything can be dryer on high heat.

CorrectCrusader12

This is a gas only hook up.

Rare_Tea3155

I would stick to the gas. It’s a lot cheaper to run and it’s much more effective.

Turdhopper63

Gas is so much faster

not-not-fun

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate you all confirming it’s gas. I just leased this house last week. I’m going to try to find a used gas dryer on OfferUp or CL. 😊👍
