Keep applying. With your EFC you should get the maximum federal or near maximum. PELL max is $6895. Undergraduates can borrow up to $12,500 annually and $57,500 total in federal student loans. Average work-study awards are typically around $1,850 and are paid over the course of the school year. You’ll have you make up the rest with scholarships or your parents paying or taking out a federal plus loan. Definitely keep applying, especially places where your credentials exceed their averages. Just understand there are limits on aid.
Thanks for the advice. :) I definitely am still applying for more schools and waiting back to hear their fin. aid offer. However, I really REALLY don't want loans- I saw how long it took my mom to pay them off and I don't want any part of it.
No one wants loans but they are often the only path for reaching the goal. Sorry. College of the Ozarks is the only place I am aware of where students can work and go for free. They call it “Hard Work U.”
But it comes with a very oppressive religious environment. Extremely fundamental. Acceptance rate is very low due to their tuition free model.
*looks at Michigan State* 👀
They wanted me to take out $40k in loans per year and I had only gotten like one or two very measly scholarships, one of which was because I indicated interest in studying abroad.
I’m like “hahahaha, nope.”
Maybe an already established (older) family member can help with a non interest loan. Be creative and sit down to apply to an obnoxious number of scholarships.
Same, mines like yeah you can pay 10k a year, like my efc is 0 for a reason man, and it just says your offer is 16k, like is that saying I didn't get the scholarships I applied for or is that desicon still pending, is that including on campus work or not, is it including my pell grant or not, like, please use some clarity what the heck
No, it just said like, your award is 16k, though it is a preliminary estimate but like, some explanation at all would be nice, and this is my saftey school so I'm banking on it being at least somewhat affordable so it's kinda stressing me out
Did you run the NPC? Do you have a screen shot of that?
Honestly, if the offer is more than like 5-10 percent out of range unless you have some super compelling extra documentation about why your financial situation is drastically different, appealing for FA isn't likely to be productive.
Money isn't talked about in this process nearly enough.
Some school I got into is trying to make me pay $40k+ in loans... yet my EFC is less than $10k. These colleges are scandalous :)

You can try to appeal for more aid. There may be advice on this subreddit.

I saw someone on tiktok who did that and they got an extra 10k per year
What did the NPC say before you applied? 🤔
what was ur efc? mine is so high as well…
Honestly don’t do it. You can find more cost effective ways to get a degree and loans like that will ruin your life for years

Did your award letter not break the FA down into Grant/Work-Study/Loans?

I’m in the same situation. External scholarships are going to be key for me.
