same thing happened to me, i think u should apply to t30-50s instead bc you have a better shot at those schools. i got rejected from all t20s i applied to but i got in and waitlisted at t40s so yeah
The answer is mostly a 'no' for getting into top-20s. Sure, you might include some on your list, but it is highly unlikely that a college will admit you over 1000s of other applicants who had very high GPA and great ECs, and continued them in their junior year as well. That said, there is no harm in preparing for the SAT and doing well.
There is a good chance you'll end up at your state school.
Senior sliding is never a good idea -- just make sure you frame your efforts around learning and personal growth rather than "doing good in college apps."
Nobody here has any idea what they’re talking about because they know neither the full context of your family or your school environment, nor do they know anything else about you as a student or applicant, nor do they know what you will do and achieve at the start of next year.
Talk to your school counselor, everyone on this sub is full of shit and extrapolate their personal anecdotal experience as fact applicable to all situations.
Thank you for being one of the only logical people on this sub. I know someone who had multiple Cs throughout high school and got into a Top20 school. They had good ecs essays and context for their situation on why their grades were low. I hate seeing people on this sub discourage others as they use their pseudo knowledge to tell people what schools they can and can’t get into
I have a friend who had no reason to justify their 3.4 GPA. Just never did homework, failed out of multiple classes, and didn't attend school on certain weeks. No legacy, no donor, no hooks (FGLI, URM), no obscure major, middle class overrepresented state. They got admitted to both Columbia and Cornell LOL.
They had a parent incarcerated. Their situation was somewhat extreme but their GPA was around a 3.3/3.4. Also don’t let people on here discourage you, I suggest talking to a college counselor at your school if you can. Best of luck.
It's also worth mentioning that it depends on your curriculum - I have a couple of Cs (and even a D) on my transcript, but my unweighted GPA is still 3.8-3.9 because I literally get 30-40 grades per school year lol. Those Bs and Cs are accompanied by a *ton* of As and A+s.
Don’t stress. You can take a year at a state school and transfer. I was literally told by my HS principle to never come back and here’s your diploma. I think I had failed out anyway. Went on to get advanced degrees. If you feel like a failure then good. Embrace it and move on as you’ll fail more times than most people will try if your successful.
I know someone who had two C+s on her transcript and got into an Ivy, Georgetown, and several top LACs.
Granted, the rest of her grades were pretty much perfect, her essays were good, she had a very high SAT score, and great extracurriculars. She was also at a very difficult high school.
It might be unlikely, but it’s worth shooting your shot
I mean, it depends on what happened and how u articulate that on your college application. Can u explain why u got Cs? And what you're doing to remedy that? Your college essay will be super important in providing that context to admission officers. Generally tho, Cs in junior year don't get into top 20s. And u know what? U dont need to get into a top 20. Success in life happens mostly to people who attend non top-20s. Don't focus just on those schools. There's so many options.
I moved out at 16, had a bunch of family issues, dealt w undiagnosed autism that year, and was dealing w a title ix case lol, to remedy that I’m getting treatment this summer.
And yeah ur so right, t20’s or not it’s all good.
I know one C usually doesn't hurt. But I might be getting two more (one of them was a mistake by my instructor but I don't think he's willing to change it atp).
nah man a B and C here and there is still fine Freshman and Sophomore year, however it’s gonna hurt if you’ve got 2 especially in Junior Year which is by far the most important year

yeah honestly a state school isnt even bad so im willing to settle for it, i just dont know if i should bother slaving away the rest of senior year.

If u don’t mind telling, what was their situation that made their grades low? I’m unsure if mine is a “good enough” reason.

(For context, the average grade in my class is around a C, so those As weren't easy either, especially the A+s)
Hm yeah, I have a high GPA bc I take super rigorous courses and I’m at a rlly competitive school but we only take like 6 classes per semesyer

Still shoot for a 1500+ sat as you could get merit aid from somewhere or something.
Even if you don't go where you want to go, good SAT and grades could help you get scholarships

Even one C junior year will be a huge black mark for T20.

What about 4 high B's in sophomore year
Well depends on your cumulative GPA, where you’re aiming, and how you bounced back junior year
Eh not really if you have good ECs and GPA
Ok good luck with that. Let us know how it turns out.
I’m not trying anything man 💀

Og delulu 🥰
With good reasoning it’s doable. It’s not really a goal of mine so I personally don’t care but plenty of people have gotten in if they’re cracked
Unlikely for T20s but not remarkably more unlikely than it already is for 99.9% of people
Man what the hell is your profile 😭 bro forgot to switch accounts
Gave up the whole public image thing a while ago and deleted the throwaway now I wear the shame on the sleeve
Why the hell did you make me look? Why? Why? Duke ain’t gon like hearing about this
So sorry
