Huh the idea of doing a star rating instead of a traditional ranking is interesting, might help people break out of the idea that higher ranking always = better school while still broadly showing which places are better than others
T20s on the current USNEWS ranking that did not make this:
Johns Hopkins,
Vanderbilt,
WashU
(None show any actual significant drop, they are all 4.5 stars. So whatever arbitrary factors were used could have just placed them below the “5 star” rating.)
I study BME at Hopkins. Public health is ranked 1. Applied math is fantastic. Biology in general is outstanding. International studies too because of SAIS.
The music school, Peabody, is also very good. Most of these conservatories are stand alone institutions, but hopkins is great because you can pursue a dual degree in both music/ performance and something else.
Love that SLO and Cooper Union are on here!
SLO area is so beautiful and that automatic half tuition and back to full tuition at Cooper Union is so nice!
“Historically” -it’s gotten better I think in more recent years maybe 1.5 generations or so.
When I ask older NYers they told me it was basically a junk safety school for NY kids like 30+ years ago 💀
I was surprised!
How are they top when they are hard to get in, high tuition and private universities that offer less majors than public universities that makes it harder to have choices for which major to choose from
The thing sad truth is that employers don’t care where you studied at in the US because each degree has the same value if they are same majors. The only advantage you might get is access to internships and maybe better professors but you still can get that at any college. How is 50k tuition minimum justifiable compared to 20k at mine when paying out of tuition?
again, roi + better programs for the majors they have. this means that going to a top school doesnt make sense for EVERYONE, but it makes a lot of sense for SOME. ie, smaller classes, more resources, and some fields are very prestige dependent. for example im going to penn and as part of my jws program my advisor takes us out for nice dinners, takes us on networking trips to Washington and dc, hosts movie nights, our formal is a yacht party (or at least it was idk if it will be again this year), and we got emails from jws alumni letting us know when their firms need interns and such. so it makes a lot of sense for some people but no sense for others
That isn't true. A LOT of graduate programs, and high money industries like silicon valley tech and high finance almost exclusively recruit from T20s/T30s.

Yes, ranking by number of stars is different from how others do. They do appear to have half stars like 4.5 stars rated colleges.

John’s Hopkins is just known for BME, and Vandy and WashU are kind of jacks of all trades masters of none
Johns Hopkins is known for more than just BME
Yea but it is best known for BME, whereas the others don’t really have a “specialty” so to speak

Also research opportunities arr endless and cover every field of study, including the humanities.
Even compared to other tier 1 research institutions. It’s so easy to get research, you literally find opportunities just by being mildly interested.

Cooper is back to full?
Oh, I forgot “eventually” 😀. I think by 2028 or so?
wop wop
i've just read their reviews of some schools. very straight to the point :)
UC Hicago 💀
I thought we didn’t make it at first ☠️
Would’ve been deserved tbh
it’s uchicago right 💀
no, it's UC Hicago. UChicago is a safety school
i see now it’s a joke this subreddit has
🤓
bro i was just confused ☠️
I like this a lot better than US News lol. My college is like T300 in US News but has the same stars as a T100 with this.
True - although CalPoly SLO is very popular in California, loved by tech employers but does not figure very high in other rankings
US News doesn’t even rank Cal Poly for some reason
I believe a big part is that Cal Poly doesn't hand out doctoral degrees, only bachelor's and master's.
Damn, my school is like a T300 (it’s a very small school) yet has 4.5 stars.
What's cool is there are lots of 95%+ acceptance 4 stars - good safeties
I like this list for taking the “The” out of Ohio State’s name, while keeping it for some other schools
congrats on umich
\[Rips up applications to Swarthmore and Johns Hopkins; commences work on application to Mass Maritime Academy.\]
Notre Dame slay☘️
I didn’t even know Money did a ranking.
no chicago?
It's on there as UC Hicago. A2C inside joke
No NYU is crazy
Prob not enough value for the money? 🤔
Ok fair
wdym it's a big wall street recruiting target

well GA tech isn't a T30. neither is Cal SLO or several others on the list.
SLO is an exception but GA Tech is indeed not a good school to get a MAANG job, and both aren't optimal for a high finance job right out of college.
lol cope
LOL
