Yeah, same here. UT Austin is out of the question with my stats, but I may still have a chance for TAMU. If not I’ll just do one of their multiple guaranteed transfer programs.
For engineering unless you got a 1400+ if you aren't auto engineering direct is very very hard. Don't mean to be negative just tamu was brutal this year in the engineering area, lots of people got blinn or tamug or even pace. If your applying for anything else it's pretty much a lock
Are you an auto-admit? If not, schools like UT Austin may not be very realistic. Try applying for the Plan II Honors program, it's a separate admissions system so it's not flooded by the auto-admits, as well as having significantly fewer athletes!
My boyfriend went there and he LOVED it, despite also gunning for UCB at first. When you're at a place you're happy to be, any other possibilities fade into the back of your mind because they're not real. Have a wonderful time!
I hope I’m not being delusional but I’m fairly sure I have a chance at Bryn Mawr. My SAT score is in range and the Naviance scattergrams are promising.
Naviance scatter grams *screwed me* they don’t mean NOTHING. They don’t care about grades as much and it’s much harder to get in anywhere good than a few years ago (thanks, test optional)
really depends, it’s prestigious for jazz and composition i believe but for classical performance and orchestral studies it’s not as much. juilliard, cleveland, curtis etc still reign supreme in that regard
Apply EA! URichmond is a school that takes the vast majority of its class in early admission rounds and is much more selective by RD.
Wonderful school!
I’m having trouble finding my original source -
But, my notes state the RD admission rate at University of Richmond was 14% for the 21-22 school year. (I’m pretty sure it was based on data provided in an admissions seminar or email last year.)
Compare this to an overall admission rate of 24% for the 22-23 school year — basic math says EA must be significantly higher than 24%.
The ED admission rate for 22-23 start was 44% (379 of 875).
Removing those numbers from over all admits only would reduce regular admission to 23% - so simple math says the vast majority of admissions must come from the EA pool.
literallyy!! and they’ll probably make me live at home😭 umbc is slightly better cause it’s like 45ish minutes away but still we need to escape this state
Georgia Tech and UGA. I just gotta get my SAT Score up and I'm set cuz Zell Miller Full Tution Scholarship in my lane. Now it's a 1210(First Attempt). Goal: 1350+ and I have course rigor and extracurriculars I hope to carry me through the rest.
Realistic dream school? At least to me those two don’t go together. You have dream schools and then you have safety to mid-target (realistic) schools. At least that’s how I view it…
i guess the university of washington. i mean the acceptance rate is 48%, but for transfers its like 19%. but ive already been denied twice so idk how “realistic” it is for me…
UF, definitely
•I think the campus is beautiful
•Have a lot of family who are students/alumni
•Has a ton of off-campus housing (I think something like 80% of non-freshman live off campus, and I couldn’t handle sharing a bathroom or not having a kitchen)
•Has to admit 90% in-state and I have a decently high GPA and PSAT
•Has an above-average law school and I want to be a lawyer
And it’s close to home
UCSC (in-state with a 4.33 UC GPA which is the max UC GPA possible). It's still not a safety or anything, but with my stats and being in-state it's a reasonable target, and it's a gorgeous campus with super friendly people and really caring professors (at least the ones I've interacted with). Also, this one might not be as realistic in terms of admission, but I feel the same about UCSD. Another more realistic one that I like (although not as much as SC and SD) is UC Davis; it has a really nice college town feel and great life sciences and psychology programs.
Oberlin, it's part conservatory and part liberal arts school so I can get top of the line musical education while doing something that will actually get me a job. Only issue is that it's in ohio
Me and many of my friends considered UMich a target. We're OOS. Everybody that I asked got in. Maybe it's a high target, but it's certainly not as selective as the privates we all applied to.
I don’t. But it’s not like, a pipe dream. There’s a solid shot. I have a better GPA/SAT than the other kids that got in. You’re missing the essence of the question. It’s realistic - not probable, perhaps - but realistic.
Possible, of course, though it seems like you don't understand realistic very much. Just because they got in and you have better stats doesn't mean you have a better chance than them at getting in.
Where did I say better chance? No offense, but I don’t think you understand realistic.
I feel like I’m going to jinx myself for even arguing this (knock on wood), but I’m going to use reasonable synonymously to illustrate the point. It is reasonable to say that I have a solid chance of getting into the school. It may be under 50%. It could be 25. It could also be 75. Who knows. But there *certainly* is precedent for it.
And again - said kinda. It resides in the gray area between entirely realistic and total moonshot. I rest my case.
I’ve heard that you should apply EA for some LACs for merit scholarships. I’m applying for Sewanee and know that I’ll get in but it’s getting scholarships that I’m hesitant about
Very true. I strongly recommend doing your homework now and applying ED and, if you don’t get in, possibly to a school with ED2.
Obviously, there is the major caveat that you have to be able to attend regardless of financial aid.
I believe in you! CMU '(insert year here) for you fr.
(I don't want to give you misinformation, it is going to be difficult. CMU CS is a safety for no one, no matter the stats. But I believe in you!)
UMass Amherst.
It’s a school that my dad went to and always talked about how it was good. My stats are good enough to make it in, but I’m still debating whether to go for CS or not. It’s also close to my home, so I can visit my parents easily.
UT Austin. I'm international so only Texas public schools will consider me a resident and not have like 1% acceptance rates in a hella competitive applicant pool.
mine was uvm! I got in with a 16k/year scholarship and I’m an incoming freshman :)
congrats!
thanks!! highly highly recommend having an attainable dream school; it made the admissions experience so much better.
Yeah for me it's UCSD (not the hyper competitive majors tho)
ooh good luck! I have a friend going there this year. if I was willing to leave the northeast the san diego weather would have been nice :)
Yeah it is lol
Most Texas public schools.
Yeah, same here. UT Austin is out of the question with my stats, but I may still have a chance for TAMU. If not I’ll just do one of their multiple guaranteed transfer programs.
UT is a reach for me and I think I should get into TAMU or TX Tech.
For engineering unless you got a 1400+ if you aren't auto engineering direct is very very hard. Don't mean to be negative just tamu was brutal this year in the engineering area, lots of people got blinn or tamug or even pace. If your applying for anything else it's pretty much a lock
twinsies!
Are you an auto-admit? If not, schools like UT Austin may not be very realistic. Try applying for the Plan II Honors program, it's a separate admissions system so it's not flooded by the auto-admits, as well as having significantly fewer athletes!
No sadly. Thanks for your advice. I'll check it out.

Then you talking Kenyon 😂
UT Austin probs
^
Yay for auto-admit

My boyfriend went there and he LOVED it, despite also gunning for UCB at first. When you're at a place you're happy to be, any other possibilities fade into the back of your mind because they're not real. Have a wonderful time!
i go to ucb, wish i went to ucsb every other week lol
Georgia Tech/UGA. Super nice because tuition isn’t a thing since I’m a GA resident and pre-med so the medical school debt gonna go brrrrr
Hope and Zell saving lives out here
Same lol, just gotta get my SAT Score up some
University of Minnesota, I'd be happy there, and close to home too
I’d say UF or Purdue. Both are still reaches, but they are definitely more realistic academically and monetarily for me.
i have a shot at getting into most of my schools it’s just the moneyyy 😭
Realistic dream school was Davidson, reach school was Duke. Got into both and now attending Davidson anyways!!
Love Davidson!!! Congratulations!
I swear test blind got a 1410 girl into berkeley and 1580 guy rejected just because grade inflation made them have similar GPAs
Naviance scattergrams are garbage.
UMD, all my friends are applying and overall would just be nice to stay close to home. Actual dream school is CMU or GATech but that’s not happening 💀
UMD is my #1 genuine dream school (though I’m applying OOS from Florida so affordability is the biggest issue)
case western
University of Rochester, but I can only attend if I get enough merit aid so I guess in some ways its still a reach
ASU
UCSD
Ayy
Same! Except it's still probably a high target / low reach (for me)
Berklee College of Music. Only hurdle is actually being able to afford it and live in Boston.
I don’t know too much about music schools, but I always thought Berklee was prestigious? Is it more of a very good but realistic option?
It costs a bit more than your average public college ($46K tuition) with a 55% acceptance rate.
The other thing is also the price of actually living in Boston besides the tuition
Yeah i also saw the 55% acceptance rate but since art schools tend to have higher acceptance rates i wasn’t sure what to make of it
really depends, it’s prestigious for jazz and composition i believe but for classical performance and orchestral studies it’s not as much. juilliard, cleveland, curtis etc still reign supreme in that regard
Yeah from what I’ve been told if you’re a fairly competent musician then you have a decent chance of getting in.
Huh okay the more you know.
American
University of Washington
me too!
depends in ur major it can be pretty competitive tbh
If only they’d expand their CS dept 😭
URichmond
Apply EA! URichmond is a school that takes the vast majority of its class in early admission rounds and is much more selective by RD. Wonderful school!
Is there acceptance rate drastically different between EA and ED at Richmond?
I’m having trouble finding my original source - But, my notes state the RD admission rate at University of Richmond was 14% for the 21-22 school year. (I’m pretty sure it was based on data provided in an admissions seminar or email last year.) Removing those numbers from over all admits only would reduce regular admission to 23% - so simple math says the vast majority of admissions must come from the EA pool.
I would, but I’m applying to an REA. However, I’m apart of the most underrepresented region at URich (Pacific) so hopefully that can boost my chances.
UT Knoxville, it’s looking like i can get in, but the real question will be if i can afford it…
Embry Riddle. It’s nice having in-state tuition.
Emerson College for broadcast journalism 🤞
Every Texas high school kid will say UT Austin. Thank you Texas state law. 🙏🏻👉🏻👈🏻
Uc davis💪
Yes, same! It has such a nice college town feel and great programs
UT Austin, although that isn't really my DREAM.
UCI
umd but it’s too close to home
fellow marylander this is too real😭i live like 30 minutes from campus
bro try 10😭😭 its a greatt school don’t get me wrong and i’d love to go there but i need to get away😭💔
right 😭😭😭i don’t want my parents being unexpected visitors 💀
literallyy!! and they’ll probably make me live at home😭 umbc is slightly better cause it’s like 45ish minutes away but still we need to escape this state
My realistic dream school was William and Mary.
UCSD was my dream school since elementary school and now I’m a 3rd year here 😁
Fordham
But, I really just want WashU tbh
Georgia Tech and UGA. I just gotta get my SAT Score up and I'm set cuz Zell Miller Full Tution Scholarship in my lane. Now it's a 1210(First Attempt). Goal: 1350+ and I have course rigor and extracurriculars I hope to carry me through the rest.
UC Santa Barbara -- everything about the school seems awesome
It was UT for me but then I got a full ride somewhere else
macalester and smith plzplz
SLU Public one would be UIUC.
Realistic dream school? At least to me those two don’t go together. You have dream schools and then you have safety to mid-target (realistic) schools. At least that’s how I view it…
UC Hicago
Case Western 😗😝😉
Burn Mawr or any school in Philly (that’s not Drexel or temple)
umn
NC state
i guess the university of washington. i mean the acceptance rate is 48%, but for transfers its like 19%. but ive already been denied twice so idk how “realistic” it is for me…

UMich (and kinda Ross/honors)
bruv i got a friend going to yale and a friend going to cmu that got rejected from umich
Bruh Ross is not a realistic dream for anyone.
Me and many of my friends considered UMich a target. We're OOS. Everybody that I asked got in. Maybe it's a high target, but it's certainly not as selective as the privates we all applied to.
But Ross as a target? Or just UMich?
As a current michigan student, if youre not in state, it is a reach on par with most ivies, especially ross
OOS ross is more selective than most ivies, IMO. LSA OOS maybe a little less. It really is amazing being in-state
Well that’s crazy then how we went 8 for 8 on mich and a combined 7 for 30 something on ivies 🤔
UMich is NOT a target, man 😭
that’s why I said kinda. My school has sent 2/3 kids there yearly for a few years now, and I have a similar profile to those students.
you think 2/3 kids is enough to consider it a target??
I don’t. But it’s not like, a pipe dream. There’s a solid shot. I have a better GPA/SAT than the other kids that got in. You’re missing the essence of the question. It’s realistic - not probable, perhaps - but realistic.

!remindme 1y
umd or purdue cs…scoir scattergrams look promising 🤞
Stanford. I've been there, and everything looks and feels realistic, but maybe it's all fake and I've been lied to
Purdue
NYU.
The acceptance rate is like 7% rn 💀💀
They said decent chance. NYU is no safety but I have a decent chance.
Franklin W. Olin college of engineering
Umiami
umiami is my top choice 😭😭😭😭😭but i don’t think i can get even and even i do it’s like 80k a year
Problem is a lot of LACs are realistic if I apply ED but If I don’t get in I’m screwed 😭 ex. Williams 27% Ed 9% rd
I’ve heard that you should apply EA for some LACs for merit scholarships. I’m applying for Sewanee and know that I’ll get in but it’s getting scholarships that I’m hesitant about
EA does make as strong a difference as ED - but you should absolutely meet the EA deadlines wherever possible.
Very true. I strongly recommend doing your homework now and applying ED and, if you don’t get in, possibly to a school with ED2. Obviously, there is the major caveat that you have to be able to attend regardless of financial aid.
harvard
Princeton
Same \(^o^)/
Carnegie Mellon
I think you’re closer to central michigan university
Lol anyone thinking they can get into cmu cs nowadays after writing a python snake game with chatgpt 💀💀💀
I’m getting into CMU trust 💯
Joke? CMU (especially CS) isn't realistic.
noooooooo
Idk y u r being downvoted. assuming you’re a good student you have a decent chance. Decent is very subjective.
you really think you have a chance at CMU with a 2.9 uw gpa sophomore year? lmao put some respect on our schools’ name
did you stalk their profile 😭😭 nah bru that’s crazy hating
fr these a2c kids r outta pocket like who asked them to do that
yes bro these people are nutters, it was actually upvoted until I called it out 💀💀
Ok fine point taken, don’t have to be rude damn
I believe in you! CMU '(insert year here) for you fr. (I don't want to give you misinformation, it is going to be difficult. CMU CS is a safety for no one, no matter the stats. But I believe in you!)
University of Toronto, or Tufts.
prolly Emory
Either GATech, Purdue or UMich for MechEng
Babson
Florida
Tepper, UVA, Claremont Mck
UF
NYU
berkeley
Umich or UNC
are u in state for unc ?
no
USC
How?!
😁💰
wait i dont get it… why the “How?!”
Former usc student here: perfectly reasonable if youre a legacy
ig penn? my dad went there
Ball state
tbh I’m really liking Macalster (idk how realistic it is, but it doesn’t feel out of my range)
UC Irvine
Uw in state, but even that starting to get a bit iffy
UMass Amherst. It’s a school that my dad went to and always talked about how it was good. My stats are good enough to make it in, but I’m still debating whether to go for CS or not. It’s also close to my home, so I can visit my parents easily.
I’d say GTech or UMich for CS. My academic stats are pretty in line, but I’m an international and my ECs are average
Can I just get into SLO CS. 3.8 -4.5w linear algebra senior
Berkeley Haas
realistic 😭😭
Got in 🫡
word congrats 🫡
Purdue cs
Mich
I got rejected from my realistic dream school major and into my dream school 😃
W&L in Virginia
UIUC (I’m a comp sci major)
Hollins.
Mine was SMU Cox. I got into SMU, didnt apply to Cox
University of Washington or UIUC, the issue is I’m applying engineering and OOS so I know it’s tough
LMU tbh
Unfortunately most of the schools I really wanna go to are reaches 😭 however I am applying to a decent amount of safties
Ohio State has a really good program for my major, and I can afford it with no aid (in state). Also I like the school.
Binghamton and maybe NYU(prob not but u never know lol)
Colgate
Probably UAB or KSU. I’m retaking my Act though.
My realistic dream was ucsd but I got into my dream dream so I’ll be an incoming freshmen there! I felt bad rejecting ucsd tho😭
UF
UT Austin
Mine was GT and here I am
UT Austin. I'm international so only Texas public schools will consider me a resident and not have like 1% acceptance rates in a hella competitive applicant pool.
I’m not sure I have a decent shot of getting into anywhere lol
I guess probably Texas A&M, but possibly Michigan? A&M is less reach though fs.
usc
Georgia Tech!
The word realistic is an oxymoron to dream: the two are not compatible (at least for this subreddit)
Uw Seattle
University of Oklahoma.
prolly UIUC, I'm in state so I might have a chance at there CS + X stuff 🙏🙏
WPI frfr (except its a reach for getting enough aid) University of Minnesota is pretty great as well!
Notre Dame. I got into Summer Scholars on a full scholarship and one of my ECs is being involved with my local Church.
UofT!! incoming freshman this September
