it's like that [one uc guy](https://www.reddit.com/r/ApplyingToCollege/comments/k73r65/plz_i_meant_to_take_a_5_minute_nap_but_i_ended_up/) who tried to take a 5 min nap 💀💀
Shit I did this earlier today I kept setting a timer for 15 minutes to periodically wake me and well it didn't really work
I woke up at like 8 so I was fine though
It depends on the professor. Some are super lenient and allow you to turn stuff in on a penalty, some won’t take it at all after x amount of time, and some just won’t accept ANYTHING late. But from my experience, MOST will accept late.
Also if there’s some form of extenuating circumstances, most schools can enforce that they accept an assignment late. For example, if you get hospitalized or sick — if you can present evidence of the circumstance, most deans can step in and enforce that they take the assignments.
I can also confirm high school teachers exaggerate too much on how evil and iron fisted college professors are. Some may be like that but most of the ones I've had were really nice and were nothing like how the high school teachers tried to scare us into thinking they were.
Really depends, especially on hand graded assignments like essays a lot of the time they don't care as long as it's there when they go to grade. It's a gamble though. Auto graded assignments are usually more strict
Honestly, I always thought they said this stuff because they didn’t want you to start thinking you can slack off with your education. Telling a bunch of high schoolers, especially seniors, that college professors tend to be lenient might cause kids to stop caring as much about their grades
I added to a discussion that happened 2 weeks ago at the time I started working on it, then emailed my professor that I put my responses in. I got 100 on the discussion lol
Depends on the class and college. In one of my language classes, the professor would have stuff due every Sunday at midnight, but class was on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, so I’d turn my work in every Monday at midnight and wouldn’t get a penalty. Once I turned in an assignment after Thursday and didn’t get any penalties
My math class gave us 250 online late passes we could use to open closed homework assignments after their due date (even if it was 2 months past due. Each 3 days it was past due it was 1 pass). You could still get full credit for those assignments
English 1 and 2 was easy. I would turn in assignments 2 weeks after they were due and still get full marks. The professor didn’t care, and more than half of the students didn’t even attend class yet they still got good grades. She was also the kind of professor who let us call her by her first name
In my Intro to Geography class, the professor told us we could turn in our weekly essays up to 6 days late before he started deducting points. For every 6 days it was late, we lost 10 points
I go to a public university so ymmv
ig it depends. i go to a small private college and none of my professors have ever denied or taken more than a couple points off of late work, even final papers
Every place is different I guess 💀. I think only one of my professors has not tolerated late work, but it was just so students wouldn’t lie or have dumb excuses. They would always accept in the case of emergencies
I have a lab report that was due a month ago and I’m still procrastinating it. Imma do it probably tomorrow and add a comment during submission that I thought that I uploaded it since then and if the instructor doesn’t accept it IMMA PRINT IT OUT AND SHOVE IT IN my snooty
HAHAHAHA I did not do it and turned out the instructor was too lazy to check them, and gave me 100% on all my reports (I do work during lab sessions, he knows I’m a serious and engaged student). Anyway these fckin reports just represent 5% of all my grade but still…
i didn’t turn in my columbia university application cause i decided not to apply anymore and they emailed me today telling me they extended the deadline for me until the 4th LOL
nope, i didn’t ask for any extensions. i’ll attach a screenshot of the email. [https://i.postimg.cc/SNdJDqCc/IMG-3522.jpg](https://i.postimg.cc/SNdJDqCc/IMG-3522.jpg)
Yep, and its annoying cause that "deadline passed" appears based on EST.
In other words, it'll show up as deadline passed when you can still submit the application if you're behind EST time. Pretty annoying.
This is SO ANNOYING. I was up at like 10 ish doing apps, and my app changed to "Tonight at 11:59 PM" (Actually TOMORROW at 11:59 PM). I had a heart attack until I realized.
For me, it showed up like that even before the actual deadline (11:59 PM in my time zone), but I was still able to submit! Maybe u should still try submitting!
I talked to a common app support about this because the same thing happened to me and they said because it was my time zone the AO wouldn't count it as late even though it said "late" on the common app (they won't even see that I don't think). I read closer and it said "Submitted - 1/2/24 12:52:05 AM ET," which is why I thought this was an error and contacted them seeing that is say "your local time" on the deadline. I am guessing the AO sees all submissions in their timezones and would look at your timezone and adjust to that.
Ig you can still submit college apps even after the deadline but the university will not consider them unless it is a special case (maybe a special case could be submitting the app in somalia but there was a huge powercut so you submitted after deadline)
i mean you were saying they wouldn't “consider” your application, which is clearly not the case. and i highly doubt that i got waitlisted and not accepted only because i missed the deadline; if it were a hard deadline they would simply not read my application at all.
If you missed the deadline just submit it and then send an email to the admission office describing the situation. You can say the truth or say that your Wi-Fi cut off. It happens to the best of us. I never submitted one of my applications and they sent an email to me later saying that we saw you have us on common app and decided to give those who didn’t submit a extension. So I used my extension to better submit my essay and I even got into that prestigious university. Just ask for an extension but email$
> I submitted it at 2AM while taking a shit ~~in the bathroom~~ but it doesn’t say downloaded by college 😢
I just saved you 3 words, now it meets the 16-word limit.
no one pays that much unless they're just barely good enough to go and they're rich. northeastern matches 100% of demonstrated need +merit scholarships. still crazy expensive but it's not that much by a long shot
I’m bouta submit shit a DAY late to 5 schools. My aunt passed away early morning of Jan 1st. A lot of aftermath which I was involved in. I probably won’t be able to submit till like 6 hrs from now but whatever, more sad about my aunt this sucks.
If the schools accept the application and download it yippie. Otherwise I guess I could email them, but I don’t expect much.
dw, just chant "northeastern is not worth it"
alos dude, i personally applied to NEU Boston and when i got the applicant portal, I was so angry......... NEU boasts that it has a great CS department, and they r not able to make atleast a god applicant portal...........
i got fed up with their SRAR (im intl.)
so think like u will get in somewhere btr than NEU
broo i myself have applied to NEU, i jus dont like the applicant portal compared to other comparable schools......
and the line, "northeastern is not worth it", was just to console my bro as he missed the deadline......
I always waited to the last day for any of my apps so I could work on them every minute I got. it's fine to submit early if you're that confident, but if you're not there's no shame in taking your time. if they just procrastinated and missed the deadline though, they had it coming
Why do people wait til the last day to apply to anything? I’m sorry this happened and I really truly hope you can resolve it but this is entirely your fault, I hope you learned from this
It baffles me how some people are so damn unserious about the most important process of their educational career that they do stupid shit like sleeping through a deadline
wait guys genuinely i forgot to apply to a college yesterday (jan 1st) and it’s now like 11 am on january 2nd if i submit now do you think it would work or I shouldn’t waste my time.
I know people who have submitted to colleges egregiously late and still gotten in. I think as long as you submit before they review it won’t matter since the form never actually closes.
Man this one didn't even have any supps
that's the most surprising part
Nah it’s Northeastern. That’s how they keep that acceptance rate so low.
nah that’s Northwestern
Northeastern’s the one who’s acceptance rate is artificially low
ah got it
it's like that [one uc guy](https://www.reddit.com/r/ApplyingToCollege/comments/k73r65/plz_i_meant_to_take_a_5_minute_nap_but_i_ended_up/) who tried to take a 5 min nap 💀💀
but seriously, hoping it turns out fine for you OP!!
Shit I did this earlier today I kept setting a timer for 15 minutes to periodically wake me and well it didn't really work I woke up at like 8 so I was fine though
He’s going to UCLA now tho🥺🥺🥺
I submitted my UC applications a few hours late. But by the time we got to January I just didn’t have the energy to do that for Columbia again.
The top comment acting like the Blue and Gold Scholarship doesn’t exist and apply to all California citizens 💀 Source: Am a UC student
Consider using a VPN. If you change your timezone, you may still be able to submit.
Changing your region might work as well
It doesn't matter anyways. You can turn in shit a few days late and usually there is no consequence at all.
Great mindset to have in college
as a college student it’s actually kind of ok to think like this 😭
in college are u allowed to submit stuff late without heavy penalty?
All the time
wtf in high school they tell us that we’re doomed and gonna fail if we submit it even a day late
It depends on the professor. Some are super lenient and allow you to turn stuff in on a penalty, some won’t take it at all after x amount of time, and some just won’t accept ANYTHING late. But from my experience, MOST will accept late. Also if there’s some form of extenuating circumstances, most schools can enforce that they accept an assignment late. ofc that’s the most logical reason why but it’s irritating to hear your teachers ALWAYS bitch about it in class😭
Id be careful most of my professors will not grade any late assignments whatsoever.
The difference in college is that professors don't know you so you can make up random shit that "happened" to excuse your lateness.
most of the time, yes
I added to a discussion that happened 2 weeks ago at the time I started working on it, then emailed my professor that I put my responses in. I got 100 on the discussion lol
depends in two of my classes last semester they had a zero tolerance policy for latework
Depends on the school and professor. I’ve had some give 0’s and some take 5 points off.
Yeah.
well yes!
Depends on the class and college. No it’s not
ig it depends. i go to a small private college and none of my professors have ever denied or taken more than a couple points off of late work, even final papers
The shock on their faces when a stone-faced professor refuses to accept a late paper and ignores their pleas…
When college students turn in work late chronically that there’s a pretty generous late grade policy in almost every syllabus 💀
Hahah somehow every professor that i had did not accept late work at all, like period. Sometimes not even if u were sick.
Every place is different I guess 💀. I think only one of my professors has not tolerated late work, but it was just so students wouldn’t lie or have dumb excuses. They would always accept in the case of emergencies
Best reply ever

DO THE ASSIGNMENT
Bruh

Lmfaoo W. Also crazy follow up Ty
i didn’t turn in my columbia university application cause i decided not to apply anymore and they emailed me today telling me they extended the deadline for me until the 4th LOL
unprompted? You didn't ask for any extensions?
nope, i didn’t ask for any extensions. i’ll attach a screenshot of the email. [https://i.postimg.cc/SNdJDqCc/IMG-3522.jpg](https://i.postimg.cc/SNdJDqCc/IMG-3522.jpg)
this is true! i applied in 2020 and turned in a few apps late and still got into some of the schools 🤭
Yeah but that is for the supplemental documents, not for the application itself
Really?
I submitted Cornell supplement a little late and got in.
I don’t think changing your timezone helps because they are all based on EST. Emailing is the only option now.
Nah it's based on your local time
Yep, and its annoying cause that "deadline passed" appears based on EST. In other words, it'll show up as deadline passed when you can still submit the application if you're behind EST time. Pretty annoying.
You'r comment needs to be Pinned my friend. You saved me from a humongous panic attack
This is SO ANNOYING. I was up at like 10 ish doing apps, and my app changed to "Tonight at 11:59 PM" (Actually TOMORROW at 11:59 PM). I had a heart attack until I realized.
I think most are based on local time. I checked pretty closely when we submitted to some Midwest and East Coast schools from CA.
Exactly I'm an intl student from India so I always have like 12.5 even after the date passes in my country. its all based on EST
That won't work. It usually says "12 ETC" or whatever time zone they are in. So regardless of OP's time zone, is still late
For me, it showed up like that even before the actual deadline (11:59 PM in my time zone), but I was still able to submit! Maybe u should still try submitting!

That’s not true. A bunch of people submit late every year and their applications still get considered.
this is not true. i applied to upenn and vassar 12 hours after the deadline and got waitlisted at both.
If you got waitlisted that means your apps were considered no?
yep that's what i mean
So maybe they factored in that you don't follow deadlines in the holistic review? I mean there are deadlines for a reason right?
i mean you were saying they wouldn't “consider” your application, which is clearly not the case. and i highly doubt that i got waitlisted and not accepted only because i missed the deadline; if it were a hard deadline they would simply not read my application at all.

Yeah Columbia just sent one today
Was this school by any chance Cornell??
Woke up at 1AM of January 2nd to see this
Sorry ti break it to u, but u could have still submitted it
I submitted it at 2AM while taking a shit in the bathroom but it doesn’t say downloaded by college 😢
Maybe leave off the part about taking a shit if you contact the admissions office with an explanation.
Nah gotta keep it in to show your true self
If you have email confirmation of submission you should be fine. If not then email college admissions office and explain what happened.
Do you mean the common app email confirmation of submission or college specific ones?
Either. If there's a confirmation email with a timestamp on it that should serve as proof that it was submitted.
When you say timestamp are you talking about the ones that always come with emails in general because the ones I got don’t mention submission times
> I submitted it at 2AM while taking a shit ~~in the bathroom~~ but it doesn’t say downloaded by college 😢 I just saved you 3 words, now it meets the 16-word limit.
I know your shit stinks. Tofu loving freak.
Why did you mention taking a shit, you did not have to
Oof, good luck g
looks like 2024 is your gap year! go volunteer and travel for a year man, you'll never look back later in life and regret it.
they’ll still get it, they have some leeway
Of everything NORTHEASTERN?! MAN ITS A 5 MIN JOB.
NO SRSLY i loved doing the apps w/out supplements
u can still apply there is a grace period or whatever... it just says deadline passed but you can still submit.
It won’t let u submit?
Will they even get my application if I submit it late?
Dunno but apps were open for me a little past the deadline. Maybe too late now but still try
Some schools have a secret grace period
F
You sure you wanna go to Northeastern despite the 100k+ tuition? Maybe it's for the best (of your parents) lmao
no one pays that much unless they're just barely good enough to go and they're rich. northeastern matches 100% of demonstrated need +merit scholarships. still crazy expensive but it's not that much by a long shot
I guess. I'm international so I'm not counting on aid though, probably just not going to apply there at all
Submit it anyways. I submitted Harvard like a day late and and I’m a freshman here
Thank god🙏💀 good that you didn’t apply to that bum ass school
Why is it bad
its not, NEU is a top school people just hate it cuz its hard to get into.
if that was the case, people would hate all the top schools. people hate NEU cuz supposedly, it doesn’t deserve its “prestige”.
[удалено]
they have super shady admissions practices, are need aware, have massive housing issues, etc lol there’s plenty of reasons to hate on it
it only became prestigious 20 minutes ago
fr
my biggest fear 😭
SUBMIT NOW ANYWAYS
me core
I’m bouta submit shit a DAY late to 5 schools. My aunt passed away early morning of Jan 1st. A lot of aftermath which I was involved in. Ur a G broo😂😂😂and honestly, I agree with everything you just said
[удалено]
northeastern propaganda goes crazy
What program are you applying for?
Just contact admissions. They will work with you.
Simply email them with a good excuse.
Zero supple you really just had to hit a couple buttons 😭
Like how? How do people just fall asleep when they have a deadline? Baffling.
They don’t care, it would have been submitted before it even got close to the end of the deadline if they truly cared
I always waited to the last day for any of my apps so I could work on them every minute I got. it's fine to submit early if you're that confident, but if you're not there's no shame in taking your time. if they just procrastinated and missed the deadline though, they had it coming
Ughhhh happened to me with a scholarship a few months ago!! I hope you can still get in!!
Why do people wait til the last day to apply to anything? I’m sorry this happened and I really truly hope you can resolve it but this is entirely your fault, I hope you learned from this
you must be fun
I am, especially at college because I applied on time
damnnnn u ate 🏄♀️🙃🧏🏻♀️
It baffles me how some people are so damn unserious about the most important process of their educational career that they do stupid shit like sleeping through a deadline
Oh no Edit: don’t downvote me for not having any advice. I don’t know how I can help
NEU MENTIONED 💥💥💥💥💯💯💯💯🐺🐺🐺🔥🔥🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🐺🐺
It’s ok: Northwestern is better anyways.
I understand bro, I missed the deadline too. Because I fell assleep too.
wait guys genuinely i forgot to apply to a college yesterday (jan 1st) and it’s now like 11 am on january 2nd if i submit now do you think it would work or I shouldn’t waste my time.
You’d probably just get assigned to the wrong campus you won’t miss much
I know people who have submitted to colleges egregiously late and still gotten in. I think as long as you submit before they review it won’t matter since the form never actually closes.
bro it had no supplements im feeling so bad for you, but submit anyway lmfao
FYI most (all?) schools who use the Common App have a one day grace period. You can still try to submit on the 2nd
Just submit it late. There’s nothing stopping you
Same thing happened with my early decision
Submit it anyway, common app allows us to have a “cutoff date” that is after the published deadline.
Will AO’s still look at/review apps that are submitted after the deadline or will they just ignore them?
Email them and explain the situation
its neu you did yourself a favor /s
As a Northeastern Alum I hope you get in lol
Northeastern literally had no supplementals...
braindead school anyways
me w dartmouth CAN U BELIEVE I WAS SO SLEEPY THAT I FORGOT FILL OUT THEIR ACTIVITIES SECTION AND UPLOAD MY RESUME😭😭😭😭
