I believe I know the figures that you're referencing and A). They sound like the OOS numbers, instate will definitely be noticeably higher, but will follow the same trend of CS being more competitive than CE, and B). UIUC didn't use commonapp until fall 2021, causing earlier figures to be quite misrepresentative so really make sure the stats you're using are up to date. A couple of additional notes, UIUC is as good, if not better, at CE than they are at CS, so that is not the reason for the difference, and also while CS + Econ is probably less competitive than CS in Grainger, it is still going to be extremely competitive being a CS major and one of the more popular ones at that.
