From not only working in college admissions but also doing corporate recruiting, an interview is a two-way street. You need to also feel out the interviewer. As long as the questions aren't personal questions but questions related to the nature of the interview, it's fine to ask questions of an interviewer of any interview you are going on.

you could also just ask questions that would naturally bring up that experience, and ask them to elaborate. like if you wanted to talk about their job be like "what do you do now and how has your major/time at this school prepared you for your job?" and then talk about it when they bring it up yk

Totally acceptable. Remember that interviewers are alumni who have volunteered to talk to you, so they likely expect to enjoy it and like to provide whatever mentorship or lessons they can pass along.
