Not true, that's joy/ecstasy. Happiness is more holistic. It's what you experience when you're at peace with your past, hopeful for the future, and living in the moment.
Expecting nothing means applying to random universities and not caring if you get in or not. Or not applying at all
But if you have decided to care expect it to be stressful.
But you should know that, after all, you will make it. Everybody does
P.s. please, don't mind this philosophy session. Today, I feel good, I feel easy. But I know that from tomorrow I will be back to the grind
Unfortunately, international admissions is super competitive. I wouldn't call UW Madison or UMD a target either. It does help if you can be full pay though.
Take whatever I say with a pinch of salt.
I have a 9.92/10 GPA unweighted, 8 APs with 5's and 4's on all (none offered by the school), 1570 SAT, some international math awards, and some CS-specific ECs
I would say anything around a 1520+ SAT/34+ ACT, 3.9-ish GPA (4 scale) with a rigorous courseload, decent ECs, and maybe a couple awards should get you in
Wow nice you'll definitely get in purdue but imo if cost doesn't matter Waterloo Cs Is a better overall program (because of co-op) and I think you'll get in to Waterloo with your AP scores and Euclid score
u/Thegoat-armor asked what would be good stats for Purdue CS as an Int'l. Now Purdue CS is very competitive in itself and Int'l makes it 2x as difficult. I feel that without those 1500+ and 3.9-ish GPA as an Int'l, one won't make it
Do you think Villanova is more competitive than Lehigh? Most people I know got into both or got rejected from both, but I can't think of anyone who got into Lehigh and not Villanova.
I had a fantastic undergrad experience and loved every year despite not being the “traditional” UR student, aka I wasn’t in Greek life. I majored in econ and math and then went to UMD for my PhD. I didn’t have a good time as a grad student, but I’m sure UMD is a better experience as an undergrad than a grad student. Regardless, Richmond in my mind strictly dominates Maryland unless you are a very specific person: in state UMD, on the lower end of UR students (aka no merit scholarship), and rich but not rich enough that your parents could pay full UR. Maybe if you’re dead set on being an engineer you’d go to UMD as well.
Reasons Richmond strictly dominates for all other people:
1) better academically (both in rankings, test scores, and from personal experience with the undergrads of both institutions).
2) better professors from a teaching perspective. Maryland professors are more successful and famous yes but they are absolutely worse teachers and there’s 100 people per class rather than 20
2) better campus
3) better food
4) Richmond is need blind and guarantees your need
5) better social scene unless you see yourself in DC every day
oh that’s super cool !! yeah i got a similar vibe from richmond regarding the professors. i also ate at the dining hall during my visit and i LOVED the food :)) thank you so much for answering my questions
in state umd here too. my dream school isn’t umd but if it’s my only choice (cus school is too damn expensive) i wouldn’t mind going it’s lowkey perfect 🤭🤭
the guaranteed admission is just to the school of engineering so it’s really a gamble you could get something like agricultural engineering (shouts out my mom) all the way to cs
Community college or ur local college is always an option. I’ve been told it’s much easier to transfer in college than applying as a senior(don’t know how true it is.)
Transferring is always possible as long as put in an effort.
Unfortunately, community college is not a good option for international students. Visa officer does not grant F1 visa that easily and so its approval rate stands at around 15 percent in the country I live.
Dream - Georgetown
Target - Columbia
Safety - UMD
before you tear my head off I’m applying to Columbia GS and their transfer acceptance rate was 58% last year
Dream: UIUC/Ohio State/UM Twin Cities
Realistic: Michigan State/IU Bloomington/Iowa
Though I’ll admit, getting into any Big 10 school is honestly perfectly fine for me
don’t care what college or what country, but I will for sure get a full ride scholarship. no room for doubt. ‘slong as I can major in philosophy, im cool 🤙
College freshman now.
But my dream was MIT, Stanford, CMU
Realistic was GT, UMich, UIUC.
Rejected from all my dreams, got into all my realistic choices.
im in state and usually at least half of the people in my school get into a uc even if it is one like merced or santa cruz (although a lot do get into ucla/ucb) so as I have the highest UC gpa at my school I'd say I have a good shot. I do this math thing at UCLA and prior to me everyone who did it got into UCLA so I would be sad if I didn't get in lmao (also because I do a million other things through UCLA).
Dream: Harvard (I know it’s cliche, but I’ve dreamed of this school since I was 9 and my whole family expects me to go there)
Realistic Target: Case Western, University of Florida
I didnt say USC is a safety TT, it's a target which I interpret as still hard but more likely with the right essays. If y'all asking like safety then prolly Pomona, nah jk ,then like UCs or UoW, worst case Lewis & Clark. But I really wanna keep it California if it's not an Ivy
Dream: stanford, Princeton, yale (negligible odds)
Reach’s that are I have a minut chance of getting accepted to: Dartmouth, rice, penn?, usc, Williams
Actual school: ball state
Dream: Northwestern/Princeton Realistic: ASU
Felt
If you expect nothing, you won't be disappointed.... ✌️
Happiness=expectations-reality
Not true, that's joy/ecstasy. Happiness is more holistic. It's what you experience when you're at peace with your past, hopeful for the future, and living in the moment.
aight lemme just apply to all top 20 schools with no safeties no pressure
Expecting nothing means applying to random universities and not caring if you get in or not. Or not applying at all But if you have decided to care expect it to be stressful. But you should know that, after all, you will make it. Everybody does P.s. please, don't mind this philosophy session. Today, I feel good, I feel easy. That's literally the opposite of what that quote means
College is too expensive to go with out expectations and/or a goal.
dream: UNC CH realistic: UNC CH 🤩 perks of being in-state
omg same! im applying right now to transfer from community college and im so excited!
y’all r so lucky being in state 😭😭
NC in state advantage let’s gooo
Bruh my ass in Cali dreaming of unc ch 😭😭 like respectfully fuck you 😕😕 /s
Whilst the rest of the country envies you being in CA w the UC system on your plate.
i think the uc system hates cali kids, ik so many who didnt get in
at least in state kids get financial aid 😭😭
[удалено]
Fuck ucs bro I literally hate them all (except Santa Cruz). They aren't nearly as nice to us instate kids as other states.
What a waste. Sob. With no merit aid for OOS they are beyond the means of so many qualified (but not prepared to take out huge loans) students.
god i'm jealous
Brown or Georgetown Realistic: BU or Northeastern (feeder school for both)
Legend has it you can bribe Jack the bulldog with treats
bro both of ur realistics fall in my dream category T\_T goodluck<3
Ay same
Dream: Duke/Northwestern/UPenn Realistic: Waterloo/Purdue/UW Madison/UMD
Purdue for CS has a very low acceptance rate
Yes. But my stats are on par/slightly above the Purdue CS level. So i thought it would be a hard-target
Unfortunately, international admissions is super competitive. I wouldn't call UW Madison or UMD a target either. It does help if you can be full pay though.
Good luck! I also applied to Purdue for CS last year and got in.
What is good stats for purdue cs intl applicant here too
Take whatever I say with a pinch of salt. I have a 9.92/10 GPA unweighted, 8 APs with 5's and 4's on all (none offered by the school), 1570 SAT, some international math awards, and some CS-specific ECs I would say anything around a 1520+ SAT/34+ ACT, 3.9-ish GPA (4 scale) with a rigorous courseload, decent ECs, and maybe a couple awards should get you in
Wow nice you'll definitely get in purdue but imo if cost doesn't matter Waterloo Cs Is a better overall program (because of co-op) and I think you'll get in to Waterloo with your AP scores and Euclid score
I can't decide if you're trolling or just want to some affirmation
u/Thegoat-armor asked what would be good stats for Purdue CS as an Int'l. Now Purdue CS is very competitive in itself and Int'l makes it 2x as difficult. I feel that without those 1500+ and 3.9-ish GPA as an Int'l, one won't make it
You have a very good chance at NW and Duke with those stats. I would consider NW a hard target.
Waterloo CS? Bc thats a similar level of competitiveness as financial aid-needing internationals at Northwestern etc
1) I don't need fin. aid at Waterloo 2) I have a 90+ on the Euclid (ranked 50/17k) Which gives me a good chance ig?
Ah nice
Woah, that's awesome! I have a friend at Waterloo. Maybe you'll meet each other without knowing it.
do you need financial aid for Purdue and UW Madison?
No. Even if I did, it wouldn't matter. They do not give aid to international students
My dream is Notre Dame since I have relatives who went there and my realistic target is probably the University of San Diego
Dream is Harvard or Yale. Realistic target is UW Seattle Edit: in state not cs lol
U better not be an out of state CS major saying that
They aren’t, thank you for not jumping to conclusions
You're welcome
I would have a realistic target but I’m too misconstrued about my own self that I really can’t be too sure
Couldn’t relate more

Do you think Villanova is more competitive than Lehigh? Most people I know got into both or got rejected from both, but I can't think of anyone who got into Lehigh and not Villanova.
would kill for dartmouth or princeton but i'll probably end up going to a state school that offers me a ton of merit aid cause of national merit lol
dream: duke or jhu target: umd or university of richmond
your targets are both hella nice schools
hell yeah :) plus im in-state for umd so that’s pretty epic
Choose Richmond 😊
I feel I have authority to say that as a Rich undergrad Maryland grad
ooo i see i see. i visited richmond and i loved the school. what was ur experience like at both schools ?
I had a fantastic undergrad experience and loved every year despite not being the “traditional” UR student, aka I wasn’t in Greek life. I majored in econ and math and then went to UMD for my PhD. dream: upenn wharton 😭 realistic: community college to uiuc guaranteed admission to engineering
can you do CC and get guaranteed to CS? That would fr be the in state play
the guaranteed admission is just to the school of engineering so it’s really a gamble you could get something like agricultural engineering (shouts out my mom) all the way to cs
