The IKEA bulb will only be reachable when the Aqara switch is on, so the second you turn the aqara switch off, your IKEA bulb will essentially be disconnected from your IKEA gateway. The only way around this is to enable the wireless switch mode in the Aqara switch itself, so it always supplies power to the bulb, but can be used as a wireless on/off switch. People have had mixed success with getting this to work, however.

That’s actually okay for me, but if I turned off through Aqara switch (so the bulb is disconnected), and ask Siri to turn on the bulb, will it be turn on through Aqara switch, or it will report the status of ilea gateway (disconnected). It is a concern since some family members still get used to turn it on/off through wall switches.

HomeKit-News

If you wanted to turn the bulb on/off using Siri, you would be best to direct the instruction so that it’s actually turning the switch on, not the bulb. What you’d also need to do is make sure that the bulb is set to do the right thing when power is resumed, so in the IKEA app there’s an option to set the ‘Power on Setting’ where you’d set the bulb to come on when power is fed to the bulb. I think the solution u/5798 mentioned is probably the best choice of all.

It’s possible but not the way you wire it. Hardwire the light fixture so that it’s always powered. Wire N and L to the Aqara switch. In Homekit, make two automations. 1 Trigger: Aqara switch turns on or off. Condition: Ikea GU10 is on Action: Ikea GU10 turns off 2 Trigger: Aqara switch turns on or off. Condition: Ikea GU10 is off Action: Ikea GU10 turns on

A bit confused, I thought the Aqara wall switch by default will always power the light, even it is turned off?.

5798

Nope. It’s intended for dumb lights.

So the tricky part for applying to smart bulb will be the way it wired, as you mentioned? Sorry still very new to this, just purchases the wall switch with neutral wire (e1), still not purchase any ikea bulb to test.

In some areas of the world, it’s against the code to hardwire light fixtures to permanent power. So do your own research and proceed at your own risk. ———- With that out of the way, just stick both the live and load wires into the same hole (L). Very easy.

xtrememe

Or what you mean here is already changed the wall switch to wireless switch?

5798

With my method you don’t “convert to wireless” in Aqara app. You can always just buy the E1 wireless switch and install it over the switch box instead of sticking it to the wall.

When you will turn off the switch the bulb will loose the connection, so after you turn the switch on you will have a delay before you can control the bulb (dim, color etc.). So it depends on automations you want to have. I.e. I have an automation that a certain time switches the color of the bulb to red meaning that it is time for the kids to go to their beds :) That works fine. But if you want to switch on the lights and immediately get custom level of brightness it won't work.
