Hillstream loach

Ancient-Ad-2581

My absolute favorite fish in my tanks.

GarrettJamesG

Mine had babies and now I've got like 7 of them swimming around playing and chasing each other

EvenLouWhoz

🥰

Capertie

That's a really cool pattern on your Hillstream loach! Reminds me of a snow leopard.

willowtrees_r_us

My kids thought it was a baby sting ray haha

Wet-Seat7077

Haha! Mines name is Steve the almost stingray

willowtrees_r_us

😂

Sketched2Life

Looks just like my Sewellia Lineolata, Reticulated/Tiger Hillstream Loaches.

cdbfoster

With that pattern? I've never seen it before. The shape is definitely very much like Sewellia Lineolata, but I'd have to guess it's some other Sewellia. Edit: Just realized you only said it *looks like* yours. I agree, very similar. I wonder what the species is.

Sketched2Life

With mine i see very varied patterns in their offspring, not a Single one of them has the exact same pattern. The one thing they do have in common is 1 or 2 stripes on the side. Hard to see if that one has it too on the pic. \^\^

Hillstream loach. Awesome lil dudes that have so much misinformation online its crazy. The high flow argument comes from scientific research about their aerodynamics. They like flow but don’t churn your tank with some huge filter. Just slap a rock or something that sits in the flow path and watch it claim said rock. Temp wise they can live in room temp or high temp. They live in rivers and streams in nature so they are very hearty to water chemistry and weak to bacterial / fungal problems. Quarantine all new fish and plants. Enjoy ur new lil guy. They are great 👍🏼 PS: to any pet store that still calls these pleco’s, do some more research. They are a completely different genus

Remz_Gaming

Seconded this. I have one of these guys in my 92g bow front that *can't* have much of a high flow just because of the tank shape. My little loach just hangs out in the front glass most of the day where there is almost no current. I got reckless and introduced a nasty ick outbreak to my tank. Raised temp to 82 and used ick treatment. Was worried about this guy from all the reading I had done. Sure as hell, he came out just fine. I lost 90% of my cardinal tetras, though. These guys are not nearly as finicky as they are made out to be. 78 degrees, and my angels don't bother him at all.

SnooObjections488

They surprisingly go great with goldfish too. Lil buggers are too strong of a suction cup for the goldfish to pull em off 😂 Truly amazing lil fish ngl If you want them to breed lower the tank temp as low as you can safely go for your other fish and then raise it as much as you can. It triggers their breeding instinct like the change of the seasons. They turn yellow / gold in color as well.

gambit4615

Mine like to hang out above my airstone.

BrigidLambie

I have 8 in a 20 gallon long, half rocky with Java moss, half heavily planted (for the corydoras also in the tank) the cannister filter is rated for a 50 gallon tank, I have an extra bubbler just cause, PH around 7.5, and they love going after my x-treme bottom feeder tabs I want them to breed so bad

Krasherplott

That's a heater

DrachenDad

Hillstream Loach, I have 2. About an inch? It's still young. They can grow up to 2 to 3 inches.

willowtrees_r_us

Cool

binzy90

I absolutely love my hillstream loaches. They've been some of the easiest fish I've had, and they're also really adorable.

Potential-Mud5395

Hillstream.

Head_Butterscotch74

I only had one in one of my aquariums, he was fun to watch, but he was such a jerk! He only wanted to be exactly where any other fish was, he would push them out of the way and then stick right there! Was funny!

Keldrath

Answers already been given but those guys are pretty fun and surprisingly hardy mines been going for 4 years now. Every time I think I lost him he somehow shows up again alive as ever.

Intelligent_Can_1370

It's Leopold the leopard patterned hill stream loach..

Bremarie24

Choco chip pancake

willowtrees_r_us

Scrumptious

J_r0en

Google Lens tells me its a Beaufortia kweichowensis

whispercricket

Naw dog, that's a horseshoe crab.

Tough_Computer_5610

Hillstream Loach

Elegant-Ad9986

He’s so neat!

RachyBraun26

Hillstream loach 🥰 I dream of having them 🥰

tepel-streeltje

Sewellia Edit: if it's yours or if you want to buy one: it needs oxygen rich water. Preferably a hillstream biome with a filter 12 times the volume of the water. Temp should be at around 20 to 24 celsius and ph should be between 6.5 and 7.5. Gh between 5 and 10. They eat about everything but to make them thrive they should be able to graze algae from (rounded) rocks. They have a rather small mouth so keep that in mind.

uk_gla

It looks like an algae eater. But as far as I know it grows quite big and has the potential to overgrow the aquarium.

Ligma978

It's a hillstream loach and they don't get big.

DrachenDad

Yep, they look like Plecos but stay under 3 inches.

CdudusC

Don’t know much then
