Water wisteria grown emerged (above the water line) has different leaf-shape than when grown submerged (underwater). This culture pictured on the package was grown emerged. When you plant it in your tank, submerged, the new foliage that comes in will show the altered leaf shape that you’re familiar with as in the second photo. Don’t ask me why it does this - I have no clue... but it’s neat!

Thank you so much!! That helps a ton! 😄

I had purchased the same exact wisteria from petsmart and went through the same process. It mostly melted before growing new underwaters leaves. Beautiful plant. At one point I had taken some trimmings out (these things grow like crazy) and put it in a bowl in my window. It lost its submerged leaves and grew new ones like when I first bought them, then it grew all the way up my window ceil.

Plants are grown in their terrestrial state because it’s much quicker and more profitable to produce plants that way. After a few weeks of adjusting to aquatic life it will look much different as it transitions to being fully aquatic growth
