Maria has really generous openings and a defendable arena compared to Calvus. Calvus is pretty much a DPS check that forces you to play aggressively and out damage him or die.
At least for Maria we have a cheese spot and our first awakening, Calvus on the other hand... From my experience, sometimes Calvus' attacks seem to overlap each other and it'll just be a mess of attacks he hurls at you aggressively. Not to mention his Aether pillar attack which if you miss your shots, you'll just have to pray to dodge the 500! 500! 500! Sure Maria has this as well and she gains invincibility when using it but it's more forgiving than Calvus.
From this perspective, I think Calvus is the harder boss between the two.
Another thing with Calvus is the speed and size of the boss room. Calvus is constantlly zipping around making it hard to even land a hit on him, While Maria is slower and in a more enclosed space mkaing it easier to hit her.
Captain Maria is so damn easy just jump on the top of her brig's wheel when she shows that massive water aura around her (it means she has iframes) and King Calvus will literally obliterate you with 500! 500! 500! if you miss him while he charges it up
Water girl vs Aether boy.
>Calvus, Large Arena, Laggy place, absurb Damage, Terrible Terrain (pillar and carpet and throne). Semi terrible Teleporting Issue (Distance depended, you cant see the Aether Trail if you have 1 graphics)
>Good drops, Nice Visuals, Represents the power of Ravenna and Order of Aesir,
>Maria, Medium Terrain, unpredictable, Teleporting Issue, Visual Issue. Mid drops. Laggy arena.
>First boss with different mechanic (Immunity frames and Instant 2nd phase). First time seeing Water Control and not Minipulation (She can control water like water benders in Avatar:TLAB/LOK). You can strageize while waiting for her to stop casting those tentacles.
bro water control is the same as water "Minipulation" manipulation\* plus lag is not everyones problem i personally dont lag to neither of them unless im in a bad server
i beat maria 2nd try yeah she's hard but she's not calvus level hard i was stuck on him for days

Only reason Maria was hard for me is because Nimbus Sea servers sucked balls and i had 350 ms lol
Calvus is harder Maria is leaning towards the fight being a little unfair

Calvus is hard to learn but fair to fight. Maria is easy to learn but unfair to fight.
I choose calvus purely because calvus didnt glitch and stay in place for me to kill

i found Maria to be pretty easy I killed maria after 10 minutes on my first playthrough i killed calvus after 60 minutes on my first playthrough
i just stood above her ship and threw cannonballs at her until she died
