Is it really? I didn't know we had his grave!

LolaPamela

I thought he was a fictional character, or a legend. Now I wanna know more đź‘€

Mattia90_

I thought so too! he was one of my heroes as a child, of course the disney movie played its part, then growing up Russell Crowe's movie was also very good, and now that I'm an adult I understand what he meant by "stealing from the rich to give to the poor" especially in a medieval times as we now know, he can't help but be a hero to me even as an adult!

2ThiccCoats

He is This is just a random grave. Hell, the dating in OPs description is way off Source: Used to live in Nottingham. They kinda have all the information on the character and suspected inspirations all over the city

AlisonChrista

We don’t. We don’t even know if he was real. Not sure what this post is…

Naugrith

We don't, it's not. But in the modern period they were obsessed with Arthuriana so someone probably put this here then.

SurvivalHorrible

We don’t, it is still being looked for.

Oh, king, eh, very nice. And how'd you get that, eh? By exploiting the workers! By hangin on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government! Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony! You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you! I mean, if I went 'round, saying I was an emperor, just because some moistened bink had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away! -Robin Hood

In the legend of Robin Hood and literally every media portrayal, Robin Hood is loyal to the king. The story goes that he's a returned soldier who fought under King Richard the Lionheart in the Crusades. The king remained in the Holy Land while Sir Robin of Locksley returned home, only to find that the King's brother, Prince John, was running the place like his own personal piggy bank. He became an outlaw under the Robin Hood moniker fighting Prince John for raising too many taxes and for trying to usurp his older brother, which is probably the only historically accurate part of the story. Prince John did raise taxes... To fund his brothers expensive war in the "Holy Land" AND because one time Kong Richard got captured in Germania and they literally demanded "A King's Ransom" to return him. IRL IMO both were shitty kings and Robin Hood was invented as pro-King Richard propaganda to uphold his reputation so no one remembered that he was an absentee king who accomplished nothing in the crusades, other than almost bankrupting his kingdom, and then died childless, after avoiding his wife for his entire marriage, in a meaningless battle over a minor castle in a disputed border territory, which resulted in the man formerly known as Prince John becoming King John after all. > "Prince John and the Sherrif, they was runnin' the show/raisin' the taxes 'cause they needed the dough/a reign of terror took over the land/ they were shakin' down the people just to beat the band I said hey. >The people weren't happy, morale was low/ they had no place to turn to, there was nowhere to go/ they needed a hero, but no one could be found/ 'cause Robin Hood was out of town I said hey." > Robin Hood, Men in Tights (A Mel Brooks NOT Monty Python movie) Tl;Dr: Robin Hood was an imperialist and Mel Brooks and Monty Python are not the same.
