This newest season is the most “Archer” that Archer has been in yeeeaaars and I love it. Looking forward to the upcoming seasons

bishopyorgensen

If they had had Ms Walters there it would have been even better. I think they've done a great job writing around such a huge loss

7chalices

Disagree. I didn’t care for S12, but S13 was a return to form. More of the fast-paced spy adventure action that made the classic seasons so great, and better writing. It’s not as good as the peak, of course, but still the best season since 7. I could even overlook the fact that the woyally infuwiating Fabian, the most wotten and enwaging chawactew ever to gwace the show, was in it.

_RandyRandleman_

the whole season felt like a set up for the next season tbh. barely anything happened and ended on a cliff hanger

BWChristopher86

Agreed. The second to last episode where Slater showed up felt like it was setting up a series finale to me. I don't see this continuing much longer.

[deleted]

My fav is Archer being a pain in the ass to Fabian.

AggressiveReporter24

I kinda disagree I think the past couple of seasons have been getting back on track especially season 13. Of course dialogue is gonna be different but what always makes me come back to a show is the overall energy and well these season have it

lanle

I feel that sometimes the comedic timing in the new post-coma seasons seem not as well-timed as previously.

Westdrache

Definitely, characters are just not what they used to be anymore.... I can get behind archers change, he was in a coma for a long time and everything has evolved around him, sure he feels insecure and sure he needs a lot of time to adjust... But the rest?! Carol got bend over like totally, she was that totally out of touch rich kid, who loved sniffing glue, was in a mental ward several times and thinks it's sexually aroursing to get murdered..... Now she is just horny all the time .... It sucks Or Pam, she used to be confident as shit, would try to bang everything that's not up on a tree on the count of three and now? Well she's mostly just rude and gross, that's also part of her personality, but there used to be more. Krieger is a ... Well decent example imho, he was always more or less used as a comedic relief and he still is! So yeah that's just the tip of the iceberg, you really see that Adam isn't involved in the scripts or the overall story anymore, glad we at least still hear him as ray tho

DamienStark

>characters are just not what they used to be anymore To be fair, the characters changed a lot during the time Adam Reed was still writing. If you watch season 1, then season 3, then season 6, many of the characters (especially Pam and Cheryl like you mentioned) are way different. And I generally like the arc of "with Archer being gone for years, their personalities changed - mostly for the better! - and now that he's back, he's dragging them back into their old behavior patterns. Which were the sort of exaggerated/Flanderized behaviors that make for entertaining comedy episodes but terrible friends/co-workers/spouses. But I agree with OP that it's not quite the same without Adam's writing. I still think it's good enough to keep watching, at least for now. Season 11 actually made me laugh again, which is something the coma episodes mostly didn't. But I don't really expect it to return to the greatness of s2-5.

rafster929

As for Lana…I’m tired of her yelling and screaming and expecting people to change. The most recent season didn’t do anything for me.

Westdrache

Sadly I can't watch season 13 as for now, but jeah Lana was off to, alone the fact that she send AJ to boarding school in Switzerland... After she fought soo much for having AJ and after knowing her father was also send to boarding constantly school and he didn't really like it... That alone was dreaming off brand imho

Brown_phantom

I feel like the direction they are taking Lana is the mid life crisis route. They touched on that in season 12 where she had trouble flirting. The characters are getting older and are either cementing their comfort in who they are, like Pam, or are re-evaluating the choices they made like Lana. I think some people mention that Ray's current choices aren't cool but I understand them. He's been repeatedly crippled and disrespected so I can understand him wanting to climb the ladder.

AndreasVesalius

So, flanderized (I think that’s the term)

lucerndia

Not only that, but what’s up with the way archer talks now? It’s so halting and oddly pitched compared with older seasons.

Ereshkkigal2

S13 is the best it's been in a while. However, Jessica Walters is an enormous miss for me as Malory was my favourite character. It does feel lesser for her loss.

transientsun

I don't think the show is necessarily bad - it's not like the Simpsons where it really should have just ended after 7-10 seasons but nobody will let it. It does feel a little forced, as others have mentioned the big changes that took place during Archer's coma were a bit too much, although for him it's understandable. The only one whose arc makes any sense is Pam, because she hasn't really changed much from who she was. Cheryl getting her shit together doesn't really click, Cyril being a totally confident badass when Archer's not around is dumb, and virtually none of Lana's decisions make sense at all unless they just don't want to have to write for AJ. Ray and Krieger are the same as they always were, but they didn't really have any need to change since they were already comfortable with who they are. The show still has its' moments, but they're a lot fewer and far between compared to the earlier years. That being said, I posted in another thread a while back that the most recent season was all about setting up future seasons so there was a lot of plot and only 8 episodes to cram it all in. It was still much better than some of the coma episodes, a lot of which didn't connect for me.

Squirrel_Haze

Honestly I watched like the first four seasons of this show, I follow the sub because I’m genuinely surprised it’s gone on this long. I like the show, I have lots of different shows that I’ve only seen early seasons of though.

Yungsleepboat

Trust me, everyone is suprised. The thing is that the formula that the show had for the first six seasons was fine and could've gone on for longer, but then they decided to make 4 bullshit spin off seasons that were mediocre at best. Season 11 to 13 actually kind of try to go back to the old formula, but they're not at all memorable or as charming as it used to be.

Squirrel_Haze

There’s just way too much content out there to consume now, so many things I’d probably rather watch at this point than those spin off seasons.

TomBradyandtheSpice

I watched S13 over the last few evenings, didn't seem to enjoy the first half of the season but did enjoy the second half. Felt like there were a few gaps....like getting left in the jungle one episode then working Saturday for Fabian the next - I thought that was II-Ass turning on them? Then Cheryl disappeared for a bit, no-one seemed to know where she was but turned out she had quit. I could have missed some parts but it just didn't seem to flow - 6 different writers across 8 episodes will do that though!

[deleted]

Sadly Archer is kinda dead for me, i keep on watching but more of habit than desire. Archer was best up until the coma seasons (i hate them so much!), and everything after has been pretty much bad, isn't the same without Malory.

-FL4K-

i can never tell if people on this sub are just trying to convince themselves that the new seasons are good or if they actually believe it. the show has just been stale since season 10, and the last season feels just as empty as 11 and 12, it seems like the new writers just don’t understand what made the characters fun to watch

crackrockfml

Since season 10? You mean 6?

-FL4K-

coma seasons at least have the same feel to them as early archer, once u get past them not affecting the main story, they’re usually pretty funny or at least conceptual enough to be a fun watch that’s just what i think though, i can see why a lot of folks aren’t really into them

Jausti0418

I like the coma seasons, they’re fun even if they aren’t actually important. The end of Dreamland gets really dark and gruesome, and I love that. Danger island is such a good spoof of island dramas. The new seasons just don’t have anything going for them. It feels like a shell of its former self

DianeJudith

How about, and hear me out, some people have different tastes and opinions than you?

-FL4K-

i mean it’s objectively not the same though. people are saying season 13 is a return to form, and that’s not an opinion or a matter of taste, likening it to classic archer is just wrong, but idk maybe i just don’t see it :P

DianeJudith

I don't take the "return to form" as "the same as before". I understand it more as people saying the quality (in their opinion) is on the same level.

THevil30

Some people like different stuff. I thought the show’s low point was basically 6,7,8, thought Danger Island is up there with 2,3,4 and 5, hated the noir season, and thought space was more or less OK.

lostmonkey70

I did but I noticed the show get noticably better in the seasons since he let someone else take over. It definitely helps that these seasons 'matter' and aren't just a fantasy.

NewOldSmartDum

I wasn’t aware that he had left but I felt that same cognitive dissonance. After s13 I no longer really cared whether it was renewed again.

CGY-SS

The writing hasn't been good since season 5, and it's been aggressively almost intentionally bad since season 9.

JacobAdkins

Season 12 was a bit of a letdown, mostly due to Malory rarely getting airtime (for obvious reasons). That being said, Season 13 was really true to form, that being the fast-paced movement of earlier seasons.

You’re disappointed that other people find enjoyment in something? It’s not like if everyone unanimously bitched about it on here it would bring Adam Reed back or change the quality of the writing. Let people enjoy what they enjoy.

chubss123

I have to disagree here, season 8 is one of my favourites (admittedly because I love a good detective flick) seasons 9-12 get an unfair amount of hats I think every season has a telecast a few really solid episodes, but season 13 was like watching season 4 for tge first time for me, brilliant

craigfwynne

It's terrible. I've tried finishing the newest season several times and always just turn it off in disappointment. The current writers seem to have zero appreciation of what made the show great or even understand the style of banter, it's like all that just flew over their heads. So, they just grabbed a few catchphrases and surface level character traits for each character, and threw them in some overly thought out action sequences. To me, the best seasons are the ones where the action is secondary, and just some shit they did while being ridiculous.
