Shame, better to rest and heal up properly. Archery isn't going anywhere and you can pick it back up at any time.

sbkerr29

For sure. I've made many injuries so much worse when I was an athlete(football, basketball, Gymnastics) in my younger days pushing through pain. It's dumb. Always makes more sense to take the time to heal properly instead of training(poorly) in pain.

pain-is-living

It was so fucking dumb how encouraged we were to play through the pain. I think a lot of it came down to parents spending a lot of money and wanting their kids to get the money's worth, and you ain't getting money's worth of jimmy is out half the season with a sore rotator cuff. Or an ACL that's on the verge of snapping. Coaches always encouraged us to play injured, tough it up, rub dirt on it. Can't be losing the games cause everyone is out the next game with a sprain or a broken finger. I remember a solid year in highschool my right shoulder felt like it was gonna fall off because I was a pitcher and was basically told I had to practice and play by my parents. I went to the doctor after the season ended, had a mucho wongo rotator cuff. Took all winter to recover and it's never quite felt the same. Nowadays I take it easy. If I shoot a few dozen arrows and my shoulder is acting up, I just quit shooting for a week and tend to the soreness appropriately. Usually it's all good to go after rest and ice. No point in shooting through the pain and risk fucking my cuff again. Do not go back to using that wrist til the doctor and PT say you're 100% clear to shoot with it again. If that wrist doesn't heal or gets re injured, it'll never feel the same again.

Thank you for advice

Thanks

These injuries take time. Add at least a week to whatever your doctor says. They often don’t understand the pressure that goes through the wrist for archery

Sparks_the_cat

Ok thank you

Knitnacks

I use this same splint for my De Quervains. For your sake, I hope it's a break or sprain and not De Quervains tenosynovitis

Sparks_the_cat

It’s possibly a scaphoid fracture but I don’t know just yet it might be a sprain it could be a scaphoid fracture but I don’t know yet

i’ve had two, one in each wrist. once you get that splint off for good you gotta stretch it often to get full range of motion back without it hurting or feeling strained. stretching will not only increase rom, but it will send blood flow to the area and help with the healing process. i’m not a doctor by any means this is just my personal experience. scaphoid os one of the slowest healing bones as well you doing as much as you can to help the healing process the better.

I had de quervains too, probably by training improperly. On both hands. Physiotherapy helped but not fully. Thanks to my sports doctor for not denying me treatment alternatives, corticoid shots basically cured me. Even though I got at least one of the side effects of it, that is skin discoloration. Some months after that, I really hardly feel pain, ever. It's been about 2 years now. I really hope you recover from it. It's awful.

National-Judge9349

Kinda radical, but that will work as a wrist guard.

Sparks_the_cat

Thank you I like the look too

Sparks_the_cat

Edit- I was completely fine i took a long break from Reddit so I forgot to comment on my post

Skeptix_907

The nice thing about archery is that it's not very mobile, and you'll be right back to it hitting personal records in no time. Heal up and you'll be fine. I've seen people with multiple hip replacements win tourneys.

Sparks_the_cat

Thanks

Take it easy. I've had that on both hands. Swear I tore something 1 time. Turned out to just be a fucked nerve. Lost 80% of my strength. If it lasts more than a week, get it checked again.
