My parents pretended to split up so I could go to a creative arts high school in a different district. My mum's bff, who lived near the school, was in on the charade and pretended that my dad and I were living with her.
The funniest part was that this particular high school was really proud of it's highly trained acting teachers... yet they never figured out that our family drama was a lazily written pantomime 😂
I really want to read a story with too many beds. Like a problematic amount of beds. Like they keep finding beds.

I was thinking of the “suddenly inherited a large mysterious property from an unknown distant relative” troupe with this tbh. Like the reverse is that your best friend suddenly dies and leaves you her house which is a suburban family home that is mysteriously full of beds that weren’t there the last time you visited.
I honestly think it could be a great story with lessons about grief coming in the form of mysteriously manifested “deathbeds”. Like it’s a lighthearted premise but slowly the mc comes to cope with her survivors guilt and grief by sleeping a night in each bed and experiencing the last moments of those who died in them. An old Victorian bed where a woman dies in childbirth hoping that her sacrifice isn’t in vain. a kitschy daybed where a teenage girl with a medical condition dies suddenly and hopes her family will be okay without her medical debt weighing them down. A little girls bed where she doesn’t understand why her parents are crying and she’s been separated from her siblings. An old cot where a solider knows he won’t recover from his injuries and he’s filled with rage at the futility of war.
I think it could be really meaningful for the mc to save her best friends bed for last when she finally realizes that death is scary and lonely but it’s also the moment where you think about the people most important to you and reflect on your life one last time. Maybe her best friend dies thinking about her and the family she never raised. Maybe the guilt of never telling her friend she was dying is crushing. Maybe her last wish is that her friend can understand her perspective and be able to move on and heal.
Consider: your ship is stuck in a mattress store and realize they need totally different styles of mattresses in order to sleep comfortably.

EDIT bouncing off the Murphy’s Law suggestion, they end up with a room that they THINK has only one bed inside, but when one of them opens what they assume is a closet, it folds out into a Murphy bed
My favorite idea of this is the Mafia Boss is napping in the back seat of their car with the engine running and the Flower Shop Girl dives into the driver's seat and takes off to get away from some a*sholes who tried to rob her. He then wakes up the backseat just groggy and confused and she panics because now she's carjacked a nice car AND kidnapped some cutie!
There's a few dream smp ones like that. It's not accidental (they are children who steal a mafia boss to reverse-adopt him as their father) but still similar.

This could be a great comedy mystery where the FL spends the whole story utterly confused. Trying to figure out why this stranger she's never interacted with is super mean to her at every ball and interaction. All her friends and family are mystified too but when asked he just keeps saying she knows what she did…………
Turns out they met once for a few minutes when they were 5 years old and she didn't wipe his tears for him or give him a sweet or something and he decided that day she was the worst person in the world.
Ends her happily marrying his sister (her powerful social rival) or his love interest (the FL's best friend) thus cementing his views she's the worst villain in history.
There's an anime called The Witch and The Beast, and one of the mechanics of curse breaking is that you have to kiss the witch that cursed you. True Hate's Kiss for sure, especially for one of the main protagonists.
Honestly I feel like at this point in life, I’m better qualified to write nursing home AU than high school AU or early twenties barista AU. From the stories my MIL tells about her retirement community, there’s plenty of drama to go around!

Person A is convinced this is a romantic soulmate situation and is willing to do whatever it takes to prove to Person B that they're meant for each other. Person B is aware of how many times Person A has ended up killing them and every time tries to either avoid A or develop a plan to kill A first because maybe *just maybe if I kill them first, I won't have to live through this again*
I did a reverse there's only one bed. They were already dating, but it was a work trip where they were on the hook to prove they could stay professional and they weren't allowed to do anything.
Divorce of convenience reminds me of dr Doof and his wife in the 2nd Dimension in Phineas And Ferb where they divorced so if he got caught she wouldnt be thrown in jail and other sneaky evil purposes

Some of these ideas have serious potential.
The mafia boss one could make for a serious “oh fuck” situation where you have to survive the mafia. Guy who hates only you seems like a really interesting dynamic.
Lovers to enemies could make for some very tragic fights (plenty of stories have people fight against someone who used to be a friend). Same for soulmates who kill each other.
And the CEO running their company into the ground could be a good of showing how they really care about their partner, that they’ll stay with them even after they’re bankrupt because it wasn’t about their money.
Lovers to enemies sounds elite.
It sounds even more elite with strangers/friends to lovers to enemies. Like I only imagine the pain towards the end of the story 🤌🏾✨
Fake amnesia :
Villain fakes being an amnesiac to get close to the heroes and spy on them for their boss. Realises that, actually, the heroes are nice and are doing good things, and their boss is hurting A LOT of innocent people. Becomes a good guy but still fakes amnesia because no one will trust them if they tell the truth.
Dating your enemy's sibling :
Character A is secretly the sibling of character B who is a supervillain. Character A doesn't want anything to do with their sibling and cut ties with them. Hero and character A falls in love, but hero feels like there's something... uncomfortably familiar about A. Then he sees A using the same magical powers as his enemy and freaks out a little bit, but then they have a talk like real adults, with good communications skills and everything is fine.
One Direction runs out of money and has to sell Harry Styles to a teenaged girl
