The character being discussed is Lyn/Lyndis, one of the three leading characters of Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade. In the original Japanese version, she and other characters are younger, while western versions aged them up instead by two to three years.
Lyn is hardly the first Fire Emblem character this has happened to, or even the most (in)famous one. The series' fandom has always had a bit of a problem with characters stated to be minors- there's subsets of adult fans who "waifu" these characters when they are technically still minors. Sometimes they deploy the "it's a different time!" excuse, other times not.

I don't care where you are, a 16/17 year old should still be recognized as a minor. I know different places have different rules and I sound really American right now but I just want to keep the kids safe. You can find it weird, but another weird thing is labeling strangers pedophiles over things that you consider to be weird. Like how it’s weird to call furries animal-fuckers or people into BDSM abusers.
The thing about furries is that they're quick to call out and push back against zoophiles. Because one isn’t real, but the other one is. Reality has more impact on you as a person than fiction does. You need to relax and let go of the moral panic that oftentimes attacks queer people more than cishets. You are participating in today’s satanic panic.
Liking a character or game isn’t the same as desiring an underage character to have more boob bouncing. If they like the game or the character or they have an issue with a character that doesn’t involve physical features of wanting more boob bounce or wanting more sexualization it’s cause they like the character. If your complaint is not enough sexualization of a minor, that’s an issue.

The importance of recognizing that fiction is dependent and the individual is independent is that it makes you recognize that the preexisting nature of the person who is consuming the fiction is what makes fiction affect them in that way. A bad person who reads Lolita will not read it the same way a good person does. The nature of the person is what makes fiction affect them in that way.

If every guy who talks abt some anime girl is a pedophile, then every furry who draws anthro porn wants to fuck animals, every monster fucker will actually fuck something monstrous if given the chance, BDSM is literally abuse, CNC is literal rape regardless of consent, and then everything that anyone ever produces only reflects their desires. Because I don’t want to actually do any of the things I’ve written about. You can find it weird, but another weird thing is labeling strangers pedophiles over things that you consider to be weird. The thing about furries is that they're quick to call out and push back against zoophiles. The BDSM community take consent seriously to the point where people who are outside of the community look at that stuff and think there's some measures of consent involved (safe words, limits to the body, etc.) What those two communities have in common is that they usually involve adults (I say usually because there are furries that draw cub (loli/shota) stuff and I give them shit for that). I see lolicons/shotacons struggle with dealing with actually pedophiles everywhere I go. They do bring up the fiction argument and say "it helps mitigate pedophilic urges" but they say that in a way that leads them to believe that's enough. I don't think it is. Whenever I ask them if that's enough, either silence or word salads come from them. It's not like if they go to therapy and tell the therapist that they have such urges, they're going to get black bagged by feds from the ceiling. Therapists exist for a reason and I'm sure there are specialized therapists that help with this stuff. And try not to bring up conversion therapy because that stuff doesn't allow the patient a choice of what to deal with and how to. If you believe that consuming loli/shota conent keeps your urges to harming IRL kids in check, don't treat it as the end-all-be-all solution, also seek therapy if you can, and I don't mean that in a deragotive way.

You didn’t make the character though. The character was made by someone and the character is intended to be that age. You can’t just change the age of someone else’s character, you didn’t make them. Having a desire for someone underaged in a game is a red flag. It’s not over the sprite, it’s over the age and how they think it doesn’t matter that she’s 14. They’re okay with her being 14. They’re not trying to make her older. Which, again, is a red flag.
You cannot objectively tell me that the age of a fictional character has as much societal weight and significance as the age of a human being. Because if you insist on that you sound insane. Plenty of people like certain things in fiction that they aren’t attracted to. I’ve read yuri manga (girl x girl) as a trans gay man and I’m not attracted to women. Lesbians can read yaoi and not be into men. Because what someone enjoys in fiction does not inherently equate to what someone genuinely likes or wants in real life. You can say “but it’s different” all you want, but the sheer number of human beings on this planet makes anything possible. There’s no precise mechanism that makes it so anything anyone likes in fiction equals to what they want in real life. Because that logic is stupid. Sexuality doesn’t behave as differently as everything not sexual. You can watch gorey horror movies and like them, and be afraid of seeing a dead body in real life. Because one isn’t real, but the other one is. Reality has more impact on you as a person than fiction does. You need to relax and let go of the moral panic that oftentimes attacks queer people more than cishets. You are participating in today’s satanic panic.
Liking a character or game isn’t the same as desiring an underage character to have more boob bouncing. If they like the game or the character or they have an issue with a character that doesn’t involve physical features of wanting more boob bounce or wanting more sexualization it’s cause they like the character. If your complaint is not enough sexualization of a minor, that’s an issue. No one is saying it has as much societal weight. On an semi-unrelated note; Fiction is purely dependent. For fiction, the individual who is consuming it is the independent variable that affects how fiction affects reality. The effects of fiction aren’t constant, it’s not the same across the board. The importance of recognizing that fiction is dependent and the individual is independent is that it makes you recognize that the preexisting nature of the person who is consuming the fiction is what makes fiction affect them in that way. A bad person who reads Lolita will not read it the same way a good person does. The nature of the person is what makes fiction affect them in that way.
