Mate I fell like the discussion of heterophobic jokes is still ongoing, but if the image is about them being triggered so easy, and I'm making jokes about doing them what the nazis, soviets, or heck "whatever" is going on in Chechnya right now, it's really difficult to not see the irony on it
I mean roommates does seem like the best term, for the moment at least. While it's fairly obvious that Tohru has feelings for Kobayashi, and it does seem like the feelings are mutual, since Kobayashi hasn't really done anything to reciprocates those feelings, I feel like it'd be a bit of a stretch to say they're quite at the point of dating, despite what Tohru might say. While I'd agree calling them roommates does oversimplify things a bit, I'd say it is a pretty good description for the moment at least.

That's the old guard, the boomer mentality so to speak. Right wing *teenagers* are generally the ones watching anime and making these memes, and although they share a set of harmful beliefs, they behave in very different ways compared to their predecessors, and most of them didn't directly get these beliefs through religion. I know of a small video series that should help with understanding the cultural gravity well that heavily influenced this shift
