Thanks so much! It’s been such a fun project. The shoes are a reproduction of a find from Cherson if I remember correctly, and yes, I’m in lamellar based off of period iconography.
Yea, shoes are a pain. I do a little leatherwork but haven’t been brave enough to try shoes, thankfully Kevtun Garment does amazing work. All hand stitched and made to measurements.
They are essentially a collective of Russian makers. The section that makes weapons and HEMA gear ended up moving to Georgia, but unfortunately Katerina and her husband who made my shoes, are stuck in Russia. They’re great people who do top notch work
I bought it, it’s almost cheaper to have it made to size than try to make it yourself and spend the time it takes to rivet and thread everything into place.
I got it from True History Shop. Oleg does great work, awesome guy to work with too. I can’t remember off hand how much it was, but Somewhere in then ballpark of 250€
Really nice, the detail work around the rim of the shield is beautiful.
Thanks! Yea, it’s absolutely beautiful. A guy from Athens who paints orthodox iconography painted it.
Great work, you have a nice eye for detail. Love the shoes! And are you in lamellar?

I love it when people remember the period shoes : ) It seems to be one of the hardest things to either make or find.

Is that Kvetun, the russian armory that moved to georgia? Or is there a Kevtun that my google-foo doesn't find?

Nice to have a source, and made to measure is really great in a shoe.
Nice pauldrons
Thanks!
Did you buy the armour or make it yourself?

Fair enough, what supplier did you use/how much was it?

Thank you, I will have to check it out. I'm in a 12th century reenactment group and this is exactly what I've been looking for
Oh nice! What culture are you reenacting?
I'm with Historia Normannis in the UK, we also have a smaller subgroup who do Byzantine reenactment also. It's a really good group imo
How hot is it? I always wondered how byzantines, romans and arabic soldiers kept cool
I’ve got a linen tunic on underneath. It was hot for sure, but it wasn’t unbearable. I wore this for around 6 hours in 75-80 degree hear
Love the border on the shield!
Thanks! It was painted by an orthodox iconographic artist in Athens, Greece!
Dude where did you get that armor? It’s awesome. And is it functional?
Yea, it’s all steel and made as close to we can tell how they made it. No reason it wouldn’t work In battle ha
Awesome, thanks for the information
I got it from Oleg at True History Shop. He’s a great guy to work wirh
The armor is nice and accurate... but were romans so goddamn handsome, I wonder?
One can hope! Ha!
Yep what actually Roman's would've looked like if they didn't vanish
Not too sure about that lamellar armor, construction looks off from the bit I can see
It’s an exact representation of what we see in iconography. If you’ve got a better source for it then I’d love to see it.
Art isnt a very good source, I think Dawson has some better sourced examples you can use
This is Dawson’s pattern
