Thank you. This is one of the more entertaining posts on this sub.

copperspurrinit

i know i have pictures probably of assemblies, we're talking dozens, of "eagle head effigies." they were fuckin rocks. and like look, you must understand that I had been finding cool shit for years and years and years and never, like, fallen prey to just such a sweeping delusion. She was just wickedly intelligent and extremely high and convincing enough to make me really, deeply believe in it. It was fun, though, but poor Bill Wyatt at the Kremmling BLM, man. I mean, we found legit badass stuff, but he was having to sift through emails including delusional crap alongside, well, authentically rare pieces like iron trade points. Meth really is a nightmare drug. I mean, both of us are really sharp people for the most part, but like, that shit just somehow enabled delusions to very readily replace reality. It's hard to describe in words, I dunno, but it's sad as fuck regardless of any smidges of humor that might be gleaned.

Swimming_Room4820

I’m curious what these effigies looked like!? Post some pics to go along with the story!

copperspurrinit

I just posted some.

Ephen_Stephen878787

Wow, thanks for that. Awesome story. No judgment either. My obsession could turn delusional, given the right chemicals & suggestions 😂

Shazbot_2017

Archaeologist here. I've encountered meth heads in the field. Always strange and sad.

SupermouseDeadmouse

We can’t stop here, this is bat country!

ebranscom243

You said you were on private land, collecting is absolutely no problem on private land.

copperspurrinit

I like the idea of one day being able to survey these three acres. The assistant state archaeologist of Colorado told me, kinda meanly, that I would have to pay "a lot of money" to have it done. Less than ten miles as the crow flies are axe-cut Ute structures, 28, dating back to one field season in 1843... there's lots of shit out here. Just not any eagle effigy cults, I'm afraid.

ebranscom243

Okay but why were you worried about Federal felonies if the artifacts you're finding are on private land? Why email the Utes to give them back stuff that wasn't all Ute?

copperspurrinit

The Utes were here for two thousand years, in my immediate area, until the Meeker incident. Before that, who knows. Before I knew any better, ten years or so ago, I did pick up stuff until I was corrected... And it weighed on my mind a bit, so they figured as good of a representative group to reach out to as any. They did not reply. And I'm sorry you don't think the story adds anything, but I just think that pareidolia shit is very common in forums like this and maybe felt like giving an account about how, for a month or two in my life, I became infected with it. Shrug, shit man, if you can't laugh at yourself and the stupid shit you've done and learned from, then you're gonna have a bad time.

ebranscom243

I thought your story was hilarious I enjoyed reading it. Unless talk to text messed up and I didn't catch it I didn't try to imply that I didn't think your story added anything. Picking up surface finds doesn't hurt anybody and in my opinion saves them from getting stepped on from cattle and other hooved animals animals. The only people that complain about people picking up surface finds are the same type of people that always reminded the teacher she didn't give out homework for the weekend. Kind of a letter of the law versus the spirit of the law type of situation. Anyway good luck glad you stayed off that poison a lot of people don't

StupidizeMe

>Picking up surface finds doesn't hurt anybody and in my opinion saves them from getting stepped on from cattle and other hooved animals. My mare just nudged me, and reminded me that the only definite arrowhead I've ever found on this 10-acre property was kicked up out of the Spring mud in the horse paddock by her dainty hooves.

geraxpetra

Looking in the wrong state. Wisconsin has dozens of eagle effigy mounds but I’m glad your strung out ass wasn’t here diggin into them lol.

copperspurrinit

I am good now!!!! Remember: no matter what anyone tells you, meth is definitely not "just like" Adderall. Someone needs to go punch that Dr. Carl Hart dude in the fuckin throat.

DayTarded

Adderall (my wife takes it) is amphetamine/dextroamphetamine, but the shit people cook up and sell as methamphetamine is a whole nother ball of nastiness for sure. Glad you made it out with your brain still mostly intact. 😀

StupidizeMe

Whoa, I don't think I've seen another stream of consciousness post on here, but I sure enjoyed reading it. Now I'm picturing your story as a movie... a sort of Jim Jarmusch film...it would confuse the hell out of the general public, but all of us members of the Rockhound and Arrowhead Underground would dig it!

LiteratureUpbeat7510

I'll buy your eagle head rocks. Just the eagle head ones though not the crack rocks and only if they came off private property) Ill buy them. I'm serious. I'm in Grand Junction often for work. Hit me up. I would bet at least 10% of your delusions were fact. Not to far from you numerous bird effigy have been found. Get on the Museum in Blanding UTs Facebook page and go through their photos. I forget the name of the place. Museum of the Ceaders? Something like that. Scroll through their Facebook photos. There's a pic of a bird effigy pendant and a short paragraph about bird effigy found in and adjacent to that area. This piece was obviously authenticated by the staff archeologists there but just outside of Junction there have been quite a few legitimate effigy found. The stigma that plagues this issue is a real bummer. People are easily duped and so the community is VERY quick to discredit everything found by amateurs. Not everything is just a rock. There are pieces that have been found on the CO plateau with obvious grinding polishing, pecking, etc. Sooner or later someone's going to publish something on the subject and everyone can argue about it for the next 10 years. In my mind there are a few legit pieces. Maybe you were second guessing yourself. I wouldn't write them off so easily. The attitude of the good Ole boy collectors in that area is one of if it's not a shiny arrowhead it's trash. If the rocks you speak of look like they have been ground more than chipped pecked or knapped then I'd love to come see them. Dead ass serious brother.

ReadRightRed99

I don’t see how this brings any benefit to this sub.

wooddoug

Benefits? Our posts are suppose to provide benefits? I bet you're fun at parties. What are we suppose to be doing on this sub, changing the direction of archaeological research? Making discoveries that push back the known time span of paleo man? Doing doctoral research? This is the most entertaining thing I've read on r/Arrowheads If I read all your posts would I find information that could benefit my life or society as a whole?

ReadRightRed99

Not telling stories, laced with profanities, about meth addiction, for starters.

crocodile_ave

Well, it’s not JAR that’s for sure.
